A Little Quarantine Diary - Day 15 Um Pequeno Diário da Quarentena - Dia 15

Wednesday, fifteenth day of quarantine. Here in Brazil there are 6,836 official cases of contamination and 241 deaths. A boring day when I had to leave the house again to renegotiate debts.

Today for the first time, I felt at my age, and not at what I look. I felt old and tired. Bad time for a midlife crisis, I think. In any case, I cannot complain and, like the infamous virus, end up contaminating everyone here at home with my discouragement.

But to improve my day, I receive from my friend, Mike James, from Seattle, USA, news from Washington. Regarding my diary of yesterday (link here), he said:

Hello Mr Mauther! You nailed it, it is alike another presence in our homes, a specter of what if? indeed the moods swing and i am quick to temper with my kids antics sometimes, but we are doing what we can. our local state governor got out earlier than other states did as far as limiting gatherings and putting the schools out for 6 weeks.

unfortunately our state serves as a portal from countries from the east side of the pacific, so we got this dang thing earlier than the other places with hot spots, but we are making a flat in the curve, this WILL burn out. keep on with the washing the hands and not getting too close to others...

We have made calls to places too, our govt suspended student loan interest and payments until oct. theres lots of talks about suspending rent and or house notes for 3 months, as well as other govt sanctioned economic items to assist, but still tis stressful and theres no clear timeframe and it seems from the talking heads on the various news channels that this will never end, unless we elect someone else to deal with it...

I wont take up much more of your comments section Mr Mauther... just want to check in and let you know from hundreds of miles away we say a prayer for you all down there ;)

Quarta-feira, décimo quinto dia da quarentena. Aqui no Brasil são 6.836 casos oficiais de contaminação e 241 mortes. Um dia chato em que tive que sair novamente de casa para renegociar dívidas.

Hoje pela primeira vez, senti-me com a idade que tenho, e não a que aparento. Me senti velho e cansado. Péssima hora para uma crise de meia-idade, eu acho. Em todo caso, não posso ficar me queixando e, como o famigerado vírus, acabar contaminando todos aqui em casa com o meu desânimo.

Para melhorar meu dia, recebo de meu amigo, Mike James, de Seattle, EUA, escreveu-me novamente, pondo-me a par das coisas em Washington. À respeito do meu diário de ontém (link aqui), ele disse:


"Fazendo check-in na área de Seattle nos EUA.

Olá Sr. Mauther! Você acertou em cheio, é outra presença em nossas casas, um espectro do que acontecerá? De fato, o humor muda e eu sou rápido em perdera paciência com as palhaçadas dos meus filhos às vezes, mas estamos fazendo o que podemos. Nosso governador local saiu na frente de outros estados, limitando as reuniões e fechando as escolas por 6 semanas.

Infelizmente, nosso estado serve como um portal para países do lado leste do Pacífico, por isso essas coisas chegam aqui mais cedo do que os outros lugares de climas mais quentes, mas estamos conseguindo frear a curva de crescimento, isso vai dar resultados. Continue lavando as mãos e não fique muito perto dos outros ...

Nosso governo suspendeu os juros e os pagamentos de empréstimos estudantis até Outubro. Há muitas negociações sobre a suspensão de aluguel e/ou financiamentos de casas por 3 meses, assim como outros itens econômicos sancionados pelo governo para ajudar, mas ainda é estressante e ninguém dá um prazo claro (para o fim da quarentena) e parece que pelas cabeças pensantes dos vários canais de notícias, isso nunca terminará, a menos que elejamos alguém para lidar com isso ...

Eu não vou ocupar muito mais da sua seção de comentários Sr. Mauther ... só queria fazer o check-in e informar você que, a centenas de quilômetros de distância, fazemos uma oração por todos vocês aí embaixo ; )

As part of the restructuring and cleaning of the blog, today I post here a model originally published in May, 2014. Here is the Athenian Treasury paper model, ready for download. When printed in A4 format, the measures of the completed model are 16 cm tall, 14 cm length and 21 cm depht.

The Athenian Treasury at Delphi was constructed by the Athenians to house dedications made by their city and citizens to the sanctuary of Apollo.

O Tesouro de Atenas é um pequeno templo em estilo dórico, construído em comemoração á vitória dos atenienses na batalha de Marathon em 490 - 480 a.C. Todo coberto com inscrições das glorias de Atenas e agradecimentos da cidade ao deus Apolo.

A Little Quarantine Diary - Day 14 Um Pequeno Diário da Quarentena - Dia 14

Fourteenth day of quarantine. 5,717 official confirmed cases and 201 deaths in Brazil. The crisis worsens in the Government. The president bet high minimizing the pandemic and now pays the price. Allies are not so friendly and enemies attack in packs, politically taking advantage of the tragedy. Well, in the end we know, it is the people who suffer.

Debts. Today was the day to renegotiate all the debts that were considered to be practically paid off and now there is simply no money. I spent the day between phone calls and email exchanges, combining installments and postponements when possible. Today I had to leave home, pay some unavoidable debts and more importantly, get water. The streets of the neighborhood are empty like a holiday, the roads like a dream. I have to control myself not to step on the accelerator on this practically deserted road.

The mood at home is not the best. Ordinary things are grounds for exasperated arguments. Books and films to keep the mind busy, but the reality of the epidemic, concern for my daughters, the bills, doubts about the future, all this is like another person in the house, it is almost a physical presence, which simply does not let I relax.

Décimo quarto dia da quarentena. 5.717 casos oficiais confirmados e 201 mortes no Brasil. A crise se agrava no Governo. O presidente apostou alto minimizando a pandemia e agora paga o preço. Aliados se mostram não tão amigos assim e e inimigos atacam em bando, aproveitando politicamente a tragédia. Bem, no final sabemos, quem sofre é o povo.

Dívidas. Hoje foi dia de renegociar todas as dívidas que eram dados como praticamente quitados e agora simplesmente não há dinheiro. Passei o dia entre telefonemas e trocas de e-mails, combinando parcelamentos e adiamentos quando possível. Hoje tive que sair de casa, pagar alguma dívidas inadiáveis e mais importante, buscar água. As ruas do bairro vazias como em um feriado, as estradas como um sonho. Tenho que me controlar para não pisar fundo no acelerador nessa estrada praticamente deserta.

O humor em casa não está dos melhores. Coisas banais são motivos para discussões exasperadas. Livros e filmes para manter a mente ocupada, mas a realidade da epidemia, preocupação com minhas filhas, as contas, as dúvidas sobre o futuro, tudo isso é como uma outra pessoa na casa, é quase uma presença física, que simplesmente não deixa que eu relaxe.

Bem, nos vemos amanhã. Que seja um dia melhor. Cuidem-se.

Thirteenth day of quarantine. In official numbers, Brazil has 163 deaths and 4,630 cases of Covid 19. There are certainly more cases, as in the whole world. There is no way to test everyone, it is impossible, even for first world countries. Many people are infected and do not even know, have no symptoms and will not. In the United States, the quarantine was extended until the end of April. If this is done in Brazil, with the economic conditions that we live in, at the end of the quarantine we will have 40 million unemployed. Dilemma. How many will die from the virus and how many will die from the recession / depression?

Yesterday was Sunday. Today is Monday but it looks like Sunday. Every day feels like a long, cloudy Sunday. The mainstream media preaches total and mandatory confinement and continues the President's frying process. The President insists that the country cannot stop. A "Sofia's Choice" of continental proportions with unpredictable results. It cannot be compared to the Plague of the Middle Ages, as there was no mobility as it is today and it was propagated by the flea of ​​rats and not by a virus. The closest we have is the Spanish Flu (Influenza) of 1918 that killed 50 million people worldwide and even victimized President Rodrigues Alves, here in Brazil. The epidemic grew until the end of 1918 and from then on, it started to fall all over the world. One explanation for the rapid decline of the disease is that doctors have become more effective in preventing and treating pneumonia that developed after the virus contracted. Décimo terceiro dia da quarentena. Em números oficiais, o Brasil tem 163 mortos e 4.630 casos de Covid 19. Há muito mais casos, com certeza, como em todo o mundo. Não há como testar todas as pessoas, é impossível, mesmo para países de primeiro mundo. Muitas pessoas estão infectadas e nem sabem, não apresentam sintomas e nem apresentarão. Nos Estados Unidos a quarentena foi ampliada até o final de Abril. Se isso for feito no Brasil, com as condições econômicas que vivemos, no final da quarentena teremos 40 milhões de desempregados. Dilema. Quantos morrerão pelo vírus e quantos morrerão devido à recessão/depressão?

Ontém foi Domingo. Hoje é Segunda mas parece Domingo. Todos os dias parecem um Domingo longo e nublado. A grande mídia prega o confinamento total e obrigatório e continua o processo de fritura do Presidente. O Presidente insiste que o país não pode parar. Uma "Escolha de Sofia" de proporções continentais com resultados imprevisíveis. Não se pode comparar à Peste da Idade Média, pois não havia mobilidade como nos dias de hoje e ela era propagada pela pulga dos ratos e não por um vírus. O mais próximo que temos é a Gripe Espanhola (Influenza) de 1918 que matou 50 milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo e inclusive vitimou o Presidente Rodrigues Alves, aqui no Brasil. A epidemia cresceu até o final de 1918 e a partir daí, começou a cair em todo o mundo.
