Some time ago, after creating a printable set of Roman legionaries and their barbarian adversaries, I started wondering which historical rivalry would be the most interesting to explore next. The answer came naturally: the legendary clashes between the Greek city-states and the mighty Persian Empire. Once again, the idea was to create a collection of printable paper miniatures for tabletop wargames, school projects, dioramas and anyone who enjoys history brought to life through papercraft.

As with the previous collection, the entire project began with a series of carefully written prompts. Rather than accepting the first results, I gradually refined every detail over the course of more than ten different prompts until the miniatures reached the look I had envisioned. Scale, artistic style, poses, facial features, clothing, armor, weapons, shields and accessories were all adjusted step by step. One of my main goals was to make every warrior look like a unique individual, with different facial features, apparent ages, hairstyles, beards and expressions, avoiding the artificial appearance of an army made up of clones. Despite many attempts and countless refinements, I wasn't able to achieve that consistently, and eventually decided to accept this limitation and move forward with the project. Perhaps I'll revisit the collection in the future as AI image generation continues to improve.

To create these miniatures, I instructed the AI to base each soldier on reliable historical references, reproducing the equipment, clothing and military appearance of the period as faithfully as possible while maintaining the realistic illustrative style used throughout the collection. Although these are paper miniatures designed for fun and gaming, I wanted them to remain recognizable as authentic representations of the warriors who fought during one of history's greatest rivalries.

The Greek hoplites represented here are inspired by the citizen soldiers who formed the backbone of the armies of Athens, Sparta, Corinth and many other city-states during the fifth century BCE. Fighting shoulder to shoulder in the famous phalanx formation, they carried large round shields known as hoplons, long spears and short swords while wearing bronze helmets, cuirasses and greaves. Their discipline and teamwork became legendary and helped shape the future of Western civilization.

Facing them are the Persian Immortals, the elite infantry of the Achaemenid Empire during the reign of Xerxes I. According to ancient sources, this prestigious force always maintained a strength of ten thousand warriors, immediately replacing every casualty so that their numbers never seemed to diminish, giving rise to the name Immortals. Equipped with decorated robes, scale armor, wicker shields, spears, bows and short swords, they represented the military power of the largest empire the ancient world had yet seen.

Although history often presents the Greco-Persian Wars as a struggle between East and West, these miniatures do not portray heroes and villains. Like the previous Roman and Barbarian collection, both sides are represented simply as warriors defending their own people, traditions and cultures. Their encounters gave rise to famous battles such as Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis and Plataea, events that have fascinated historians for more than two thousand years.

This collection includes two printable sheets of Greek hoplites, two sheets of Persian Immortals and one camp accessory sheet for each army, all created in the same scale and artistic style so they can be mixed freely with the previous Roman and Barbarian sets, allowing both historically accurate battles and completely imaginative anachronistic wargames.

These miniatures were designed to be compatible with the popular 28 mm tabletop gaming scale. When printed on US Letter paper at actual size (100%, with scaling or "Fit to Page" options disabled), the figures will be approximately 28 mm in scale, making them suitable for use with many commercially available terrain pieces, buildings and gaming accessories. Since these are paper miniatures created from original illustrations, slight variations between different collections may occur, but every effort has been made to keep the entire series visually consistent and fully compatible.

Depois de criar um conjunto de miniaturas de legionários romanos e seus adversários bárbaros, comecei a pensar qual seria o próximo grande conflito da Antiguidade a ganhar sua própria coleção de soldados de papel. A resposta veio quase naturalmente: as lendárias Guerras Greco-Persas. Mais uma vez, a ideia foi criar um conjunto de miniaturas imprimíveis para wargames de mesa, trabalhos escolares, dioramas e para todos aqueles que gostam de aprender História enquanto montam modelos de papel.

Assim como aconteceu na coleção anterior, este projeto nasceu a partir de uma série de prompts cuidadosamente elaborados. Em vez de aceitar o primeiro resultado gerado pela inteligência artificial, fui refinando cada detalhe ao longo de mais de dez prompts diferentes, ajustando escala, estilo artístico, poses, expressões faciais, vestimentas, armaduras, armas, escudos e acessórios até chegar ao resultado que eu imaginava. Um dos principais objetivos foi fazer com que cada guerreiro parecesse um indivíduo único, com feições, idade aparente, barba, cabelos e expressões diferentes, evitando a aparência artificial de um exército formado por clones. O que não foi conseguido e acabei desistindo, devo dizer.

Para criar estas miniaturas, eu orientei a inteligência artificial a utilizar referências históricas confiáveis, procurando reproduzir com a maior fidelidade possível as roupas, armaduras, equipamentos, armas e escudos utilizados durante o período representado. Embora sejam miniaturas de papel criadas para diversão, jogos e atividades educativas, a intenção foi manter uma aparência historicamente reconhecível, preservando ao mesmo tempo o estilo artístico realista que passou a caracterizar esta série.

Os hoplitas gregos retratados nesta coleção representam os soldados cidadãos que formavam o núcleo dos exércitos de cidades como Atenas, Esparta, Corinto, Tebas e muitas outras durante os séculos V e IV antes de Cristo. Lutando ombro a ombro na famosa formação conhecida como falange, empunhavam longas lanças, grandes escudos circulares chamados hoplons e espadas curtas, protegidos por elmos de bronze, couraças e caneleiras. Sua disciplina, treinamento e capacidade de combater em perfeita formação fizeram deles uma das forças militares mais respeitadas da História Antiga.

Do outro lado estão os Imortais Persas, a mais prestigiada unidade de infantaria do Império Aquemênida durante o reinado de Xerxes I. Segundo os historiadores da época, esse corpo de elite mantinha permanentemente um efetivo de dez mil guerreiros. Sempre que um deles morria ou ficava incapacitado para o combate, outro ocupava imediatamente seu lugar, dando origem ao nome pelo qual ficaram conhecidos. Vestindo túnicas ricamente decoradas, armaduras de escamas, portando lanças, arcos, espadas curtas e escudos característicos, representavam o enorme poder militar do maior império conhecido até então.

Embora as Guerras Greco-Persas sejam frequentemente apresentadas como um confronto entre Oriente e Ocidente, esta coleção não retrata heróis nem vilões. Assim como aconteceu com os romanos e bárbaros, ambos os lados são apresentados apenas como guerreiros defendendo seus povos, suas tradições, sua identidade e sua cultura. The Evolution Of Niigata Station Papercraft Collection by City of Niigata

Most railway station papercrafts recreate a single moment in time. This collection is different. It allows you to build more than a century of architectural evolution, following the transformation of Niigata Station from its historic buildings to the modern elevated terminal seen today. Made available free of charge by the City of Niigata, Japan, these four papercraft models offer a unique way to explore the station's history.

The collection includes four different versions of the station, each representing a significant moment in its history. Among them are the former ground-level station, a memorial edition of a building that no longer exists, the first phase of the new elevated station, and the completed redevelopment as it appears today. Displayed side by side, the models create a fascinating paper timeline, allowing builders to appreciate the architectural and structural changes that have taken place over the years.

Originally created to promote the station's major redevelopment project, these papercrafts have also become a small historical archive. Some of the buildings and platforms represented in the models have since disappeared, making the collection especially appealing to anyone interested in architecture, railways, or preserving pieces of urban history in miniature form.

One particularly interesting detail is that one of the models depicts the station building inaugurated in 1958, during a period when Niigata was rapidly expanding as an important port and industrial city. This station remained standing during the historic 1964 Niigata Earthquake, a disaster that became world-famous for demonstrating the effects of soil liquefaction, a phenomenon in which seemingly solid ground temporarily behaves like a liquid during a powerful earthquake. The striking images of buildings leaning dramatically, yet still standing, helped reshape earthquake engineering around the world.

The models offer an excellent level of detail without becoming overly complex, making them enjoyable for both experienced papercraft enthusiasts and newcomers alike. They also make wonderful display pieces, whether on their own or as part of a larger railway layout or architectural diorama.

Although the official website presents the models in a different sequence, I have rearranged the photos in this post into chronological order to make it easier to follow the evolution of Niigata Station over the years. I have also added a small caption to each image indicating the period represented by each version.

A maioria dos papercrafts de estações ferroviárias retrata apenas um único momento no tempo. Esta coleção é diferente. Ela permite reconstruir mais de um século de evolução arquitetônica, acompanhando a transformação da Estação de Niigata desde seus edifícios históricos até o moderno terminal elevado dos dias atuais. Disponibilizados gratuitamente pela Prefeitura de Niigata, no Japão, estes quatro modelos oferecem uma maneira única de explorar a história da estação através do papercraft.

A coleção reúne quatro versões diferentes da estação, representando momentos marcantes de sua história. Entre elas estão a antiga estação em nível do solo, uma versão memorial do edifício que deixou de existir, a primeira fase da nova estação elevada e, por fim, o projeto concluído como pode ser visto atualmente. Montados lado a lado, os modelos formam uma interessante linha do tempo em papel, permitindo observar as mudanças na arquitetura e na infraestrutura ao longo das últimas décadas.

Originalmente criados para divulgar o grande projeto de modernização da estação, esses papercrafts acabaram se tornando também um pequeno registro histórico. Algumas construções e plataformas representadas nos modelos já não existem mais, o que torna a coleção ainda mais especial para quem aprecia arquitetura, ferrovias ou simplesmente gosta de preservar, em miniatura, lugares que fizeram parte da história de uma cidade.

Um detalhe curioso é que uma das versões retrata a estação inaugurada em 1958, construída durante o período de grande crescimento de Niigata como porto e centro industrial. Esse edifício permaneceu de pé durante o histórico Terremoto de Niigata, em 1964, um desastre que entrou para a história por revelar ao mundo os efeitos da liquefação do solo, fenômeno em que terrenos aparentemente firmes passam a se comportar como um líquido durante um forte abalo sísmico. As impressionantes imagens de edifícios inclinados, mas ainda de pé, ajudaram a transformar para sempre os estudos da engenharia sísmica.

Os modelos apresentam um bom nível de detalhes, mas sem serem excessivamente complexos, tornando a montagem agradável tanto para modelistas experientes quanto para iniciantes. Também são excelentes peças para compor dioramas ferroviários ou simplesmente decorar uma estante com um conjunto diferente e cheio de significado.

The Steampunk Mansion Papercraft Project - Development Update And Free 3D SketchUp Model - by Papermau

Last week I shared a preview of this Steampunk Mansion and thought it would already be finished by this Friday. But, as often happens with personal projects, every time I work on it I find new little details that can be improved, so I decided to keep refining the model before releasing it.

Over the past few days I added balconies to three sides of the building, changed the position of some doors and windows, incorporated new pipes and gears into the walls and refined several textures to make the whole model look more balanced. As I keep examining the model in 3D, new ideas naturally come to mind, and it would be a shame not to include them.

The images in this post show the current stage of the project from several different angles. There are still a few details that I would like to improve and, because of that, if the model is not released later this week, it will simply be because I believe it can still be made a little better. I'd rather spend a few extra days polishing everything than publish it before it's truly ready.

In the meantime, I decided to share the three-dimensional version of the mansion with anyone who is curious to explore the project. The model is provided in the .SKP format, which can be opened for free with virtually any version of SketchUp, including the more recent Trimble releases. You can rotate the model, zoom in and out, inspect every detail and, since the file is not locked, you're also welcome to modify it or simply use it for study and inspiration. Interestingly enough, the 3D version of this mansion was built using the ancient SketchUp 6, released back in 2007. Despite its age, it remains an incredibly lightweight, fast and capable tool for the way I work. That's especially helpful because my own computer is a veteran as well: it still runs Windows 7 and has far less memory than what would be considered ideal nowadays. Compared to today's machines, it feels almost steam-powered... which, come to think of it, is quite appropriate for someone who spends so much time designing steampunk models. Along with the 3D model, I'll also include a link to a version of SketchUp 6 for anyone curious to try the same classic tool I still use today, as well as a link to Trimble's official website, where you can download the current free version of SketchUp.

Minecraft Style FIFA World Cup 2026 National Teams Paper Toys Collection - by El Kerajinan

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 already underway and soccer fans following every round with excitement, Indonesian designer El Kerajinan has prepared a very special collection for football and papercraft enthusiasts. Inspired by the unmistakable blocky look of Minecraft, he created a series of paper toys representing the 24 national teams taking part in the tournament, each one wearing its official uniform and preserving the colors and details that make every team easy to recognize.

Instead of reproducing specific famous players, the idea behind this collection is to represent each national team through simple and charming Minecraft-style characters. The result is a colorful and fun set of paper toys, perfect for decorating a desk, following the World Cup matches, or even creating small sports-themed dioramas.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is especially meaningful for fans in the United States, as the country shares hosting duties with Canada and Mexico in the first edition of the tournament held across three nations. This file can be opened using the free version of Pepakura Viewer, allowing you to view the model in full 3D, freely rotate every part, understand how each piece fits together and greatly simplify the assembly process, especially in the more complex sections.

When opening the PDO file for the first time with the free version of Pepakura Viewer, a password request window may appear. Simply ignore it and click the Open with Pepakura Viewer option located just below the password field. The model will open normally and can be viewed without any limitations during the building process.

If you do not already have the free version of Pepakura Viewer installed on your computer, don't worry. At the end of this post you will find a link to the program's official download page. It is a lightweight and free application for viewing PDO files and an extremely useful tool for anyone building papercraft models distributed in this format.

Vintage Texaco Gas Pumps Papercraft Set - A Papermau Classic Returns - Download Now!

This is one of those models that are part of the history of the Papermau blog. Originally published in October 2012, it eventually became unavailable when the download link stopped working. I took the opportunity to reorganize the project, revise the template sheet and make the model available again as a much cleaner and better organized PDF file. The papercraft itself remains exactly the same, but it is now much more enjoyable to print and assemble.

The model represents a small set inspired by vintage Texaco gas stations, featuring two fuel pumps mounted on a base and a central post holding advertising signs on both sides. It is a simple accessory, but one that works very well with dioramas, garages, workshops, gas stations and vintage urban scenes.

The final scale is approximately between 1/24 and 1/30, depending on the paper format used for printing. To achieve a good balance between strength and ease of assembly, I recommend using paper weighing between 120 and 160 gsm. You can also have fun experimenting with the scale by reducing it. For example, you can set your printer to print two pages per sheet, allowing you to build two complete sets on a single sheet at approximately half the original scale.

A small detail that makes a big difference in the final result is the fuel pump hoses. On the assembled model shown in the photos, I used two short pieces of gray telephone wire approximately 3 mm in diameter. This gives the pumps a much more realistic appearance and allows the hoses to hang naturally beside them.

I should also point out that I was never concerned with making this set historically accurate. Most likely, the fuel pumps and the hanging Texaco sign belong to different periods in the company's history, but historical accuracy was never my goal. Back in 2012, I simply thought the two elements looked good together, and I still feel exactly the same way today.

I hope this small re-release allows new visitors to discover one of the earliest original Papermau models, while giving longtime readers the chance to revisit a little piece of the blog's early days, now presented in a cleaner, better organized and much easier to assemble version.

Este é um daqueles modelos que fazem parte da história do blog Papermau. Originalmente publicado em outubro de 2012, ele acabou ficando indisponível quando o link para download deixou de funcionar. Aproveitei a oportunidade para reorganizar o projeto, revisar a folha de montagem e disponibilizar o modelo em um arquivo PDF muito mais limpo e organizado. O papercraft continua sendo exatamente o mesmo, mas agora está muito mais agradável de imprimir e montar.

O modelo representa um pequeno conjunto inspirado em antigos postos de gasolina da Texaco, composto por duas bombas de combustível montadas sobre uma base e um poste central sustentando placas publicitárias em ambos os lados. É um acessório simples, mas que combina muito bem com dioramas, garagens, oficinas, postos de gasolina e cenários urbanos de época.

A escala final fica aproximadamente entre 1/24 e 1/30, dependendo do formato do papel utilizado na impressão. Para obter um bom equilíbrio entre resistência e facilidade de montagem, recomendo utilizar papel com gramatura entre 120 e 160 g/m². Você também pode brincar com a escala reduzindo-a. Basta configurar sua impressora para imprimir duas páginas por folha, obtendo assim dois conjuntos completos em uma única folha, cada um com aproximadamente metade da escala original.

Um pequeno detalhe que ajuda bastante no resultado final são as mangueiras das bombas. No modelo montado mostrado nas fotografias, utilizei dois pequenos pedaços de fio de telefonia cinza com aproximadamente 3 mm de diâmetro, o que deu um aspecto muito mais realista e permitiu posicionar as mangueiras de forma natural ao lado das bombas.

Deixo claro também que eu nunca tive a preocupação de buscar uma reprodução historicamente exata neste conjunto. Muito provavelmente o modelo das bombas de combustível e a placa suspensa pertencem a épocas diferentes da história da Texaco, mas isso nunca foi uma prioridade para mim. Em 2012 eu simplesmente achei que os dois elementos ficavam bonitos juntos e continuo pensando exatamente a mesma coisa hoje.

Espero que este pequeno relançamento permita que novos visitantes conheçam um dos primeiros modelos originais do Papermau e que aqueles que acompanham o blog há muitos anos possam reviver um pedacinho daquela fase inicial, agora em uma versão mais organizada e muito mais fácil de montar.
