Block Drugstore & Zig Zag Records 3D Models For Sketchup by Papermau - Download Now!

While working on the papercraft of the Block Drugstore facade, I decided to see how it would look next to the Zig Zag Records, another papercraft I’ve already published here on the blog (link at the end of this post). 

The result pleased me quite a lot, so I’m making the 3D model of both facades available, even though they were never neighbors in real life. 

The model can be opened in SketchUp (version 6 and later) or Trimble. 

Since Trimble no longer offers free versions and SketchUp has been discontinued, I’ve included a Google Drive link at the end of this post with a SketchUp 6 version for those interested.

I’m still working on the Block Drugstore facade and plan to release it in two versions: a narrower one, to pair with the Zig Zag Records, and a wider one, which will include details of the pharmacy’s side wall. More updates coming soon.

Enquanto trabalho no papercraft da fachada da Block Drugstore, decidi verificar como ela ficaria ao lado da Zig Zag Records, outro papercraft que já publiquei aqui no blog (link no final deste post). 

O resultado me agradou bastante, e por isso estou disponibilizando o modelo em 3D das duas fachadas, embora, na vida real, elas nunca tenham sido vizinhas. 

O modelo pode ser aberto no SketchUp (a partir da versão 6) ou no Trimble. 

Como o Trimble não oferece mais versões gratuitas e o SketchUp foi descontinuado, incluí no final deste post um link do Google Drive com uma versão do SketchUp 6, para aqueles que tiverem interesse. 

Continuo trabalhando na fachada da Block Drugstore e pretendo lançá-la em duas versões: uma mais estreita, para ser combinada com a Zig Zag Records, e outra mais larga, que incluirá detalhes da lateral da farmácia. Em breve, mais novidades.

Block Drugstore Facade Paper Model - by Papermau - Next Project

I've already decided what my next project will be: the facade of Block Drugstore, one of the oldest pharmacies in New York. 

Founded in 1885 and always located on the corner of 2nd Avenue and East 6th Street in the East Village, Block Drugstore is known for its iconic facade with vintage neon signs that evoke the charm of the past. 

Despite the changes in the neighborhood and the city over the years, the pharmacy maintains its authenticity and classic style, being a historical and cultural landmark of the region.

In addition to offering traditional products, it also attracts tourists and lovers of retro architecture. 

Today, just a few images. As I develop the model, that I will post here on the blog, I will share more interesting facts about this, the most iconic and nostalgic pharmacy in the East Village.

Já decidi qual vai ser meu próximo projeto: a fachada da Block Drugstore, uma das farmácias mais antigas de Nova York. 

Fundada em 1885 e localizada desde sempre na esquina da 2nd Avenue com a East 6th Street, no East Village, a Block Drugstore é conhecida por sua fachada icônica com letreiros vintage em néon que evocam o charme do passado. 

Apesar das mudanças no bairro e na cidade ao longo dos anos, a farmácia mantém sua autenticidade e estilo clássico, sendo um marco histórico e cultural da região. 

Além de oferecer produtos tradicionais, também atrai turistas e amantes de arquitetura retro. Hoje apenas algumas imagens.

Durante o desenvolvimento do modelo, que irei postando aqui no blog, trarei mais curiosidades sobre esta que é a farmácia mais icônica e nostálgica do East Village.

MTV Logo Decorative Papercraft - by Papermau - Download Now!

MTV (Music Television) was launched on August 1, 1981 in the United States (it only arrived in Brazil in October 1990). 

Originally, the channel was dedicated exclusively to music videos, presented by "video jockeys" (VJs). 

The first song to be broadcast was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by the band The Buggles. MTV quickly became a significant cultural force, influencing the music, fashion and behavior of young people around the world. 

The famous MTV logo, designed by Manhattan Design (Pat Gorman and Frank Olinsky), is known for its bold and changeable design. 

The original logo featured the letter "M" in a large, three-dimensional style and the letter "TV" written over it in graffiti. 

This design has allowed for countless variations and customizations over the years, reflecting the dynamic and innovative nature of MTV. 

The MTV logo, created by advertising agency Manhattan Design, debuted alongside the channel on August 1, 1981. 

This distinctive and adaptable logo featured the letter "M" in a large, three-dimensional style, with the letter "TV" written over it in a graffiti style. 

The original design was meant to be flexible and changeable, allowing for frequent variation and customization, which has helped MTV maintain a dynamic, contemporary look over the years. 

In 2009, MTV updated its logo to a more simplified version, removing the three-dimensional details and adjusting the style to reflect the brand's evolution and its focus on a wider range of content beyond music videos.

In 2000, small modifications and variations were made to the logo, maintaining the essence of the original design, but in 2009 a more significant update was made, simplifying the design and adapting it for the digital and high-definition world. 

I created this papercraft using the 1981 version as a base. The entire model takes up just one printed sheet and is not difficult to assemble. 

In addition to the papercraft, I am also making a 3D model available that can be viewed and manipulated virtually using Sketchup. Both downloads are easy and secure, directly from Google Drive. Have fun.

Zig Zag Records Vignette Paper Model - by Papermau Download Now!

This is the Zig Zag Records vignette, a decorative paper model that only takes up three printed sheets and, when printed on A4 or letter format, measures approximately 11 cm in height, 13 cm in length, and 6.5 cm in depth. I think it will look great as an ornament on a vinyl record shelf or even on a CD shelf. 

The iconic vinyl record store Zig Zag Records closed its doors after 35 years of operation. This record store, located in the southern part of Brooklyn, New York, was a true mecca for music and vinyl record lovers in the region. 

Throughout its history, Zig Zag mainly focused on classic rock and played a crucial role in the heavy metal scene in the 1980s. It became a significant meeting point for fans of this music genre. 

 Its importance in the music community is undeniable, and the closure of Zig Zag Records represents a significant loss for vinyl collectors and music enthusiasts in New York. 

With the rise of digital platforms and changes in the music industry, many independent record stores have faced challenges to stay in business. 

I couldn't find official profiles on Instagram or Twitter, but I discovered that Zig Zag Records has a Facebook profile where they occasionally post (their last post was in April 2023). The link is: Zig Zag Records on Facebook.

Esta é a vinheta da Zig Zag Records, um modelo de papel decorativo que ocupa apenas três folhas impressas e quando impresso no formato A4 ou carta, mede aproximadamente 11 cms de altura, por 13 cms de comprimento por 6,5 cms de profundidade. Eu acho que ficará legal como enfeite em uma estante de discos de vinil ou mesmo de CDs. 

A icônica loja de discos de vinil Zig Zag Records fechou suas portas após 35 anos de funcionamento. Essa loja de discos, localizada no sul do Brooklyn, Nova York, era uma verdadeira meca para os amantes de música e discos de vinil na região. 

Durante sua trajetória, a Zig Zag concentrou-se principalmente no rock clássico e desempenhou um papel fundamental no cenário do heavy metal nos anos 1980. Tornou-se um importante ponto de encontro para os fãs desse gênero musical. 

Sua importância na comunidade musical é inegável, e o fechamento da Zig Zag Records representa uma perda significativa para os colecionadores de discos e os apaixonados pela música em Nova York. 

Com o surgimento das plataformas digitais e mudanças na indústria da música, muitas lojas de discos independentes enfrentaram desafios para se manterem em funcionamento.

Zig Zag Records Vignette Paper Model - by Papermau Download Tomorrow!

Today, I assembled the vignette for Zig Zag Records, so I could check for any errors. I found some and already fixed them. 

Now, I'll work on the finishing touches, finalize tabs, and arrange the pieces on the sheets. Download will be available tomorrow. 

I used a Lego figure in the last photo of this post to give you an idea of scale. Official Lego figures are at a 1/48 scale, so this vignette, when printed on an A4 format, is at an approximate 1/48 scale, meaning it's a miniature 48 times smaller than the actual facade of Zig Zag Records.

Hoje eu montei a vinheta da Zig Zag Records, assim pude ver se havia algum erros, achei alguns e já consertei.

Agora vou trabalhar no acabamento, finalizar abas e arranjar as peças nas folhas. Download amanhã. 

Eu usei um boneco Lego na última foto deste post para vocês terem idéia de escala. Os bonecos Lego oficiais têm escala 1/48, então essa vinheta, quando impressa em formato A4, está em uma escala aproximada de 1/48, ou seja, ela é uma mminiatura 48 vezes menor que a fachada real da Zig Zag Records.
