The Ephemeral Museum - The Village House Miniature Paper ModelAssembled by Soetam Rizky

My friend Soetam Rizky, from Indonesia, built the Village House paper model and kindly sent me a photo of his nice work. 

I know it will be repetitive, but I have to say that is always a good feeling see one of my models assembled by a friend modeler, and from so a distant country here from Brazil. It is always, without exception, a pleasure and an honor for me.

Eu sei que vai soar repetitivo, mas eu tenho que dizer que é sempre um sentimento muito bom ver um dos meus modelos montados por um amigo modelista, e de um país tão distante aqui do Brasil. É sempre, sem excessão, um prazer e uma honra ver um de meus modelos montado por um amigo modelista.

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. The Ephemeral Museum is a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

Eu "estou no papelmodelismo" desde 2005, embora eu já tivesse contato com modelos de papel desde minha infância, nos anos 1970, via revistas que eram vendidas esporadicamente em bancas de jornal. Lembro que haviam revistas com casas para montar e dioramas/playsets de aeroportos, fortes-apache, presépios e coisas do tipo. Com o advento da internet o que houve foi simplesmente um renascimento do hobby do papelmodelismo para mim e muitas outras pessoas de minha geração. O Ephemeral Museum é um lugar aonde irei mostrar alguns dos modelos que eu construí em todos estes anos. Também gostaria que esse fosse um espaço aonde todos os amigos modelistas pudessem mostrar seus trabalhos, sendo assim, se alguém quiser participar deste "museu", basta mandar fotos de seu trabalho e algumas palavras para o e-mail abaixo:

Porsche 936-78 Turbo Miniature Paper Model In SD Style - by Yonju

This original and very well done paper model version in SD style (super deformed syle) of the Porsche 936-78 was created by Japanese designer and modeler Yonju, from Tuzigiri website.

From Star Wars universe, here is a miniature paper model of the TIE/line starfighter. The TIE/LN starfighter, or TIE/line starfighter, simply known as the TIE Fighter or T/F, was the standard Imperial starfighter seen in massive numbers throughout most of the Galactic Civil War and onward. 

Colloquially, Rebel and New Republic pilots referred to the craft as "Eyeballs".

Do universo de Star Wars, eis aqui um modelo de papel em miniatura do Caça Estelar TIE/line. O caça estelar TIE/LN, ou caça estelar TIE/line, simplesmente conhecido como TIE Fighter ou T/F, era o caça estelar imperial padrão visto em grande número durante a maior parte da Guerra Civil Galáctica e adiante.

Created by Russian designer and modeler Evgen MooNFish, from MooNFish`s Papercrafts, here is a very well done paper model version of the Light Cycle, from the Sci-Fi movie TRON 2.0. 

On the fictional universe of TRON 2.0, Light Cycles are vehicles resembling motorcycles that are driven by programs in the Game Grid. Upon being rezzed in by a program's rod, a Light Cycle completely covers the driver with a protective canopy. Each Light Cycle is colored according to the color of the rod that generated it.

Criado pelo designer e modelista russo Evgen MooNFish, do site MooNFish`s Papercrafts, eis aqui uma versão em papel muito bem feita da Light Cycle do filme Sci-Fi TRON 2.0. 

No universo fictício de TRON 2.0, os Light Cycles são veículos que lembram motocicletas, movidos por programas na Game Grid. Ao ser rejuncionado por uma haste de programa, uma Light Cycle cobre completamente o piloto com uma cobertura protetora. Cada Light Cycle é colorido de acordo com a cor da haste que o gerou.

Rocky Bergen is a Canadian industrial designer and creator of this very well done miniature paper model of the iconic Commodore 64, an 8-bit home computer introduced in January 1982 by Commodore International. 

It has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the highest-selling single computer model of all time, with independent estimates placing the number sold between 10 and 17 million units.

Gokstadskipet - Bateau De Gokstad - A Viking Ship Paper Model by Secanda Models

This is the Bateau de Gokstad, the newest paper model created by my friend, the French designer and modeler Secanda. You will find many other unique paper models there, as can be seen on the last image of this post.

Some curiosities about Secanda and his creative process, in his own words: - "Secanda means "stuff to cut" in Latin language. I use just an old basic multilayer photo editor, that I use as a paper with pencil and compass.

I don't use 3D editors because first I don't know at all how to use them and then I don't like very much the paper models made only with 3D tools. For my taste, they look often as nightclub mirror balls... For my taste again, it's better to feel the hand of the drawer even if the result is rougher and less perfect. 

However the real reason is maybe I'm too lazy or too stupid or too old, or the three in the same time, to learn how to use a 3D editor."

About this model in particular, Gérard said: "This new model is a well-known Viking ship: Gokstad ship. I know that many models of this famous ship already exist. Why a new one? Because I felt in love of this boat after seeing it in Oslo some years ago and because the free paper models of it are often not very right (or maybe I failed to find a right free one!)... 

Ok, the main reason is the first one :-) It should be noted that this PDF is not only a package of sheets to cut, it's in the same time a booklet about Gokstad ship and what is known (and unknown) about the ships of the Viking era. 

After a general introduction, many informations about these ships are scattered in the text all along the building. However, I'm not a specialist of this topic; this document is only an introduction to encourage the modeler to search for more serious documentation (and avoid most of these so many ridiculous Vikingmania websites). 

 Unfortunately for the modelers who don't understand French language, there is no English translation in the PDF except the titles, but there are many photos to help those who would like to build this model.

Este é o Bateau de Gokstad, o mais novo modelo de papel criado por meu amigo, o designer e modelista francês Secanda. Você vai encontrar muitos outros modelos exclusivos lá, como pode ser visto na última imagem deste post.

Algumas curiosidades sobre Secanda e seu processo criativo, nas palavras do próprio: - "Secanda significa "coisas para cortar" em latim. Eu uso apenas um velho editor de fotos básicas multicamadas, que uso como papel, lápis e compasso. 

Eu não uso editores 3D porque primeiro eu não sei como usá-los e eu não gosto muito dos modelos de papel feitos apenas com ferramentas 3D. Para o meu gosto, eles parecem frequentemente com bolas espelhadas de discoteca ... 

Na minha opinião novamente, é melhor sentir a mão no desenho, mesmo se o resultado for mais rude e menos perfeito. 

No entanto, a verdadeira razão é que talvez eu seja muito preguiçoso ou muito estúpido ou muito velho, ou os três ao mesmo tempo, para aprender como usar um editor 3D."

Sobre este modelo em particular, Gérard diz: "Este novo modelo é um conhecido navio Viking: o navio Gokstad. eu sei que muitos modelos deste famoso navio já existem. Por que um novo? Porque eu apaixonou-se por este barco depois de vê-lo em Oslo há alguns anos e porque os modelos de papel gratuitos muitas vezes não são muito adequados (ou talvez eu não consegui encontrar um livre certo!) ... 

Ok, o principal motivo é o primeiro 1 :-) Deve-se notar que este PDF não é apenas um pacote de folhas para cortar, é ao mesmo tempo um livreto sobre o navio de Gokstad e o que é conhecido (e desconhecido) sobre os navios da era Viking. Depois de um general introdução, muitas informações sobre esses navios estão espalhadas no texto em todo o edifício. 

No entanto, não sou um especialista nisso tema; este documento é apenas uma introdução para encorajar o modelador a procure por documentação mais séria (e evite a maioria dessas tantas sites ridículos da Vikingmania). 

Infelizmente para os modeladores que não entendem a língua francesa, não há tradução em inglês no PDF, exceto os títulos, mas há muitas fotos para ajudar quem gostaria de construir este modelo.
