The Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage Steampunk Paper Model by Richard Cherry

This extraordinary paper model represents the Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage, a fantastic steampunk flying machine created by American artist and designer Richard Cherry, known on DeviantArt as SiriusArtWorks.

The inspiration for this model comes from a short fictional story created by the artist himself. According to this narrative, the plans for the machine were discovered deep inside an old forgotten vault beneath New York City by archaeologist Alixander Fletcher. The documents, supposedly dating from the late nineteenth century, revealed the designs for an anti-gravity electromagnetic flying carriage that, according to rumor, had been conceived by Nikola Tesla himself.

This imaginary origin fits perfectly with the figure of Tesla, who is frequently associated in fiction with electrical experiments, extraordinary inventions and technologies far ahead of his time. The Aero-Carriage seems to have come directly from an alternate reality in which electricity, magnetism and Victorian engineering allowed mankind to conquer the skies long before the arrival of modern aviation.

The steampunk aesthetic can be seen in almost every detail of the vehicle. Its wood-covered fuselage resembles an old carriage, while the copper parts, metal structures, pipes, rivets, exposed mechanisms and weathered surfaces suggest an experimental machine built during the final years of the nineteenth century.

Steampunk is a retrofuturistic style that combines elements of the Victorian era and the Industrial Revolution with imaginary technologies. Steam-powered machines, gears, airships, automatons and fantastic electrical inventions coexist with clothing, buildings and vehicles inspired by the nineteenth century, creating an alternative vision of the past in which many technological advances happened decades earlier.

Richard Cherry is an American artist and model designer interested in steampunk, architecture, fantasy, nature and esoteric themes. These influences can be seen throughout his work, which often combines imaginary machines and buildings with detailed textures and a very distinctive aged appearance.

On his former blog, Sirius Art Works, Richard documented several stages in the development of the Aero-Carriage. According to the artist himself, the project took approximately five months of intermittent work and went through many modifications. Before completing the model, he also completely redesigned the textures to achieve the result he wanted.

After all this work, the Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage was finally completed and published for download in Richard Cherry’s DeviantArt gallery in January 2011.

I have also included a close-up image of the cockpit in this post so that everyone can see just how detailed this model really is. The interior features a padded seat, wooden panels, instruments, gauges, controls and several small elements that help bring this fantastic flying machine to life.

As you can see from the images, this is not a model recommended for beginners. The assembly includes many small parts, curved surfaces and delicate details, but the final result will certainly reward all the time, patience and care invested in its construction.

You will find the model in two formats: PDF and PDO (Pepakura), so you can use the PDF to print the parts and the PDO as an assembly guide, since it allows you to view the model in 3D. A inspiração para o modelo vem de uma pequena história fictícia criada pelo próprio autor. Segundo essa narrativa, os projetos da máquina teriam sido encontrados nas profundezas de um antigo cofre esquecido sob a cidade de Nova York pelo arqueólogo Alixander Fletcher. Os documentos, datados do final do século XIX, mostravam os planos de uma carruagem voadora eletromagnética antigravitacional que, segundo rumores, teria sido projetada pelo próprio Nikola Tesla.

Essa origem imaginária combina perfeitamente com a figura de Tesla, frequentemente associada na ficção a experiências elétricas, invenções extraordinárias e tecnologias muito além de seu tempo. O Aero-Carriage parece ter vindo diretamente de uma realidade alternativa na qual a eletricidade, o magnetismo e a engenharia vitoriana permitiram ao homem conquistar os céus muito antes do surgimento da aviação moderna.

A estética steampunk está presente em praticamente todos os detalhes do veículo. A fuselagem revestida de madeira lembra uma antiga carruagem, enquanto as peças de cobre, as estruturas metálicas, os tubos, rebites, mecanismos aparentes e superfícies envelhecidas sugerem uma máquina experimental construída no final do século XIX.

O steampunk é um estilo retrofuturista que mistura elementos da Era Vitoriana e da Revolução Industrial com tecnologias imaginárias. Máquinas a vapor, engrenagens, dirigíveis, autômatos e fantásticas invenções elétricas convivem com roupas, construções e veículos inspirados no século XIX, criando uma visão alternativa do passado na qual muitos avanços tecnológicos aconteceram décadas antes.

Richard Cherry é um artista e modelista norte-americano interessado em steampunk, arquitetura, fantasia, natureza e temas esotéricos. Essas influências podem ser vistas em seus trabalhos, que normalmente combinam máquinas e construções imaginárias com texturas detalhadas e um aspecto envelhecido muito característico.

Em seu antigo blog Sirius Art Works, Richard registrou algumas etapas do desenvolvimento do Aero-Carriage. Segundo o próprio artista, o projeto levou aproximadamente cinco meses de trabalho, realizado de forma intermitente e acompanhado por muitas modificações. Antes de concluir o modelo, ele também refez completamente as texturas para conseguir o resultado que desejava.

Como você pode perceber pelas imagens, este não é um modelo indicado para principiantes. A montagem possui muitas peças pequenas, superfícies curvas e detalhes delicados, mas o resultado final certamente recompensa todo o tempo, a paciência e o cuidado empregados em sua construção.

Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien Fighter Aircraft Paper Model In 1/72 Scale by Ned Reif

Offered by designer Ned Reif, currently based in Germany, these four 1/72 scale Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien models are an excellent opportunity for military aviation enthusiasts to discover the work of a designer who follows a very personal path within the papercraft hobby.

The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien was one of the fighter aircraft operated by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II. Because of its liquid-cooled inline engine and elegant lines, it was often mistaken by Allied pilots for a German or Italian aircraft.

Although clearly inspired by the real aircraft, Ned Reif's models are not intended to reproduce every detail with absolute precision. Instead, the designer seeks to capture the essence, personality and spirit of the airplanes he chooses to represent, creating distinctive interpretations filled with character and individuality.

When I thanked Ned Reif for making these models available for publication on Papermau, I asked whether he would like to write a few lines introducing the models to the blog's readers in his own words. I was expecting a brief description of the aircraft or perhaps some information about his work, but I was pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful message below, which I am pleased to share in its entirety. Besides presenting a bit of his background as a designer, it also reveals the interesting artistic philosophy behind his creations:

I have been an admirer of the Papermau website for a long time and am now pleased to see one of my models appear on it. One of my all-time favorites is the "Customizable Generic Cyberpunk Building Papercraft." The Papermau website collects many fine models from all over the world, and it is a pleasure and sometimes a surprise to see the many ideas people have expressed in paper. I admire the hard work that went into collecting them all in one place for such a long time!

As visitors to the gallery on my ko-fi site will quickly see, I have been pursuing my own interpretation of various airplanes for some time. I like to quote Miles Davis, who said, "Sometimes you have to play a long time to be able to play like yourself." After building other designers' models for many years, I lost interest in attempts to miniaturize real airplanes, because no model can ever be an accurate miniaturization. Embracing that insight, I granted myself the freedom to make my own interpretations of the airplanes, other objects, and even people I find inspirational, but in the way that I see them. Like a jazz song, they are recognizable to anyone who really knows the original, even though the interpretation may appear very different to the uninitiated. I hope that they put a smile on people's faces.

Cool Modern Helicopter Paper Model Free Printable Papercraft by Paper Rabbit

This interesting helicopter papercraft was created by the Korean designer known as Paper Rabbit, who maintains an active blog on the Naver platform where he regularly publishes original paper models accompanied by videos showing the assembly process. His projects usually feature clean shapes, well-defined structures and accessible builds, something that has appeared several times here on the Papermau blog with other models created by him.

The model represents a modern-looking helicopter with an angular fuselage and a distinctive cockpit, resulting in an elegant final appearance once assembled. The dark body combined with blue-tinted windows creates a nice contrast that highlights the lines of the aircraft. Even though it is a relatively compact model, the finished build has a strong visual presence and looks great as a display piece.

The template occupies only three printed sheets, making this a quick and enjoyable project to build. The parts are well organized and the design favors a straightforward assembly without an excessive number of tiny pieces, while still preserving the recognizable shape and details of the helicopter.

Este interessante papercraft de helicóptero foi criado pelo designer coreano conhecido como Paper Rabbit, autor que mantém um blog bastante ativo na plataforma Naver, onde publica regularmente modelos originais acompanhados de vídeos mostrando o processo de montagem. Seus projetos costumam ter um estilo limpo, com formas bem definidas e montagem acessível, algo que já apareceu outras vezes aqui no blog Papermau em diferentes modelos assinados por ele.

O modelo apresenta um helicóptero de aparência moderna, com fuselagem angular e cockpit bem marcado, resultando em um visual elegante depois de montado. A combinação de tons escuros no corpo com as janelas em azul cria um contraste interessante que valoriza as linhas da aeronave. Mesmo sendo um modelo relativamente compacto, o resultado final tem boa presença visual e fica muito bem como peça de exibição.

Good News for Papercrafters - Canon Models Continue Unchanged

Canon announced changes that initially seemed unfavorable for modelers, which caused some concern among papercraft enthusiasts. 

The expectation was that new restrictions or limitations might be implemented, possibly limiting access to free models or turning the service into one exclusive for Canon printer owners. 

However, after visiting the site and running some tests, the good news is that, at least for now, everything continues to work as before. 

Most likely, the announced changes apply only to users who access the site via smartphones or tablets and use the Canon app to print directly from the device to the printer. 

I, using a desktop PC and usually saving the templates to open and print on my computer later, had no problems continuing to use this method. 

My printer is an Epson Ecotank and not a Canon, and even so, I printed one of the models (see photo below) to make sure printing was enabled, and as you can see, everything works just like before. 

I printed the astronaut model, and to download it you just need to log in to the site. Registration is free and quick, requiring only a valid email address. 

When you click to download, the site shows only the “Print” option, but here’s a tip: simply click it and, when the dialog box opens, choose “Save as PDF” instead of printing. 

That way, you’ll have the file saved directly to your hard drive. As for registration, at least here in Brazil, it has already been required for some years in order to access the templates. 

This means that, despite the initial concerns, the models remain accessible and free. Future changes cannot be ruled out, but for now, the experience of using the site is the same as it always has been.

A Canon anunciou mudanças que pareciam ser desfavoráveis para os modelistas, o que gerou certa apreensão entre os fãs de papercraft. 

A expectativa era de que novos bloqueios ou restrições fossem implementados, talvez limitando o acesso aos modelos gratuitos ou transformando o serviço em um exclusivo para proprietários de impressoras da Canon. 

No entanto, após visitar o site e realizar alguns testes, a boa notícia é que, pelo menos por enquanto, tudo continua funcionando como antes. 

Provavelmente, as mudanças anunciadas pela Canon se aplicam apenas aos usuários que utilizam celulares ou tablets e usam o aplicativo da Canon para imprimir diretamente do dispositivo para a impressora. 

Eu, que uso um PC de mesa e costumo salvar os templates para depois abri-los no computador e imprimir, não tive problemas em continuar usando esse método. 

Minha impressora é uma Epson Ecotank e não uma Canon, e mesmo assim imprimi um dos modelos (veja a foto acima) para me certificar de que a impressão estava liberada e, como você pode ver, tudo funciona exatamente como antes. 

Imprimi o modelo do astronauta, e para baixá-lo é necessário apenas fazer login no site. A inscrição é gratuita e rápida, exigindo apenas um e-mail válido. 

Quando você clica para baixar, o site mostra apenas a opção “Imprimir”, mas aqui vai uma dica: clique normalmente e, quando abrir a caixa de diálogo, escolha “Salvar como PDF” em vez de imprimir. 

Dessa forma, você terá o arquivo salvo diretamente no seu computador. Quanto à inscrição, pelo menos aqui no Brasil, ela já é exigida há alguns anos para acessar os templates.

Isso significa que, apesar das preocupações iniciais, os modelos continuam acessíveis e gratuitos. Não se pode descartar possíveis mudanças no futuro, mas, até o momento, a experiência de uso segue igual ao que sempre foi.

Easy-To-Build Fictional Fighter Aircraft Paper Model by Papertoys.Narod.Ru

On the website papertoys.narod.ru you can find a papercraft model of an aircraft, a kind of fictional jet. 

The author explains that the model is not based on any real airplane, but rather an original creation, designed to be simple to build. 

The page points out that the most challenging part is the cockpit and suggests that less experienced modelers may choose to draw the windows directly onto the fuselage instead of assembling it separately. 

The style of the model is very much in line with what is often seen in Russian homemade papercrafts: straight lines, few complex parts, and a clear focus on accessibility. 

The optional cockpit shows the author’s concern with making the model approachable for beginners or even children. 

Its appearance, as seen in the images, is straightforward yet still conveys the idea of a jet fighter, thanks to its aerodynamic lines and the inclusion of rear turbines. 

The website itself has been around for a long time. I remember visiting it as early as the early 2000s and building some of its models back then, when I was just starting with papercraft. 

What struck me at the time was precisely the ease of assembly, even without detailed instructions, which made it possible to experiment and learn in an intuitive way.

O autor informa que o modelo não é baseado em nenhuma aeronave real, mas sim uma criação original, pensada para ser simples de montar. 

A página destaca que a parte mais trabalhosa é a cabine e recomenda que modelistas menos experientes possam optar por desenhar os vidros diretamente na fuselagem, em vez de montá-la separadamente. 

O estilo do modelo segue o que se vê com frequência nos papercrafts caseiros de origem russa: linhas retas, poucas peças complexas e um foco claro na montagem acessível. 

O fato de a cabine ser opcional mostra a preocupação em tornar o modelo viável também para iniciantes ou mesmo para crianças. 

O visual, pelas imagens, é direto e funcional, mas ainda sugere um caça a jato, principalmente pelas linhas aerodinâmicas e pela presença de turbinas traseiras. 

O site em si já tem bastante tempo de atividade. Lembro de visitá-lo desde o começo dos anos 2000 e de ter montado alguns de seus modelos naquela época, quando estava começando no papercraft.

Easy-To-Build Imaginary UT-87 Helicopter Papercraft by Papertoys.Narod.Ru

Let`s take a look at a simple papercraft with its own charm: the UT‑87 helicopter, part of the Paper Modeling collection from the website Papertoys.narod.ru. 

It is one of those minimalist paper models — elegant in its simplicity — with clean lines, few pieces, and easy assembly, perfect for beginners or for those who enjoy quick projects. 

This helicopter does not actually have a known “real prototype” — in other words, there is no specific real-world machine whose design it faithfully reproduces. Everything suggests that it is an original creation by the author, inspired more generally by classic helicopters — main rotor, tail rotor, simple cockpit — but without a recognizable brand or model. 

This makes the model accessible: without the burden of technical accuracy, it allows builders to focus on the assembly itself, the paper, and the fun of the hobby.

The website Papertoys.narod.ru offers this and many other free paper models. There are cars, airplanes, ships, and many other vehicles — a wide variety. Importantly, the models are simple and of very low complexity, which is great for beginners or for anyone who wants something quick to build.
