Space Dock Complex - A Modular Sci-Fi Building Papercraft by Papermau - Work in Progress

This is the Space Dock Complex, my newest original Papermau project and also one of the most modular models I have created so far.

The model represents a futuristic building with four docking bays or garages designed for small spacecraft, flying vehicles or any other type of machine you may want to place inside.

The Space Dock can be assembled as a single ground-level building or transformed into a multi-story complex simply by stacking identical modules. Each floor can also be used separately, allowing you to create small garages, hangars, workshops or outposts for science-fiction dioramas.

Another possibility is to build the model with or without the interiors of the docking bays. In the complete version, each garage will include internal walls, crew access doors and enough space to accommodate small spacecraft or futuristic vehicles.

At the rear of the building are the individual access doors, external walkways and an elevator tower connecting the different floors. At the front, the large platforms can be used as landing, parking and vehicle movement areas.

The images show a beta version created in SketchUp. I am still working on a few details, especially the supports for the front platforms, the organization of the parts and the final adjustments required before the test build.

O modelo representa um edifício futurista com quatro docas ou garagens destinadas a pequenas naves espaciais, veículos voadores ou qualquer outro tipo de máquina que você queira colocar em seu interior.

O Space Dock poderá ser montado como uma construção térrea independente ou transformado em um edifício de vários andares, simplesmente empilhando módulos iguais. Cada andar também poderá ser usado separadamente, permitindo criar pequenas garagens, hangares, oficinas ou postos avançados para dioramas de ficção científica.

Outra possibilidade será montar o modelo com ou sem o interior das docas. Na versão completa, cada garagem terá paredes internas, portas de acesso para a tripulação e espaço para acomodar pequenas naves ou veículos futuristas.

Na parte traseira do edifício estão as portas individuais de acesso, as passarelas externas e uma torre de elevador que conecta os diferentes andares. Na parte frontal, grandes plataformas servem como áreas de pouso, estacionamento e movimentação dos veículos.

As imagens mostram uma versão beta criada no SketchUp. Ainda estou trabalhando em alguns detalhes, principalmente nos suportes das plataformas frontais, na organização das peças e nos últimos ajustes necessários antes da montagem de teste.

The Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage Steampunk Paper Model by Richard Cherry

This extraordinary paper model represents the Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage, a fantastic steampunk flying machine created by American artist and designer Richard Cherry, known on DeviantArt as SiriusArtWorks.

The inspiration for this model comes from a short fictional story created by the artist himself. According to this narrative, the plans for the machine were discovered deep inside an old forgotten vault beneath New York City by archaeologist Alixander Fletcher. The documents, supposedly dating from the late nineteenth century, revealed the designs for an anti-gravity electromagnetic flying carriage that, according to rumor, had been conceived by Nikola Tesla himself.

This imaginary origin fits perfectly with the figure of Tesla, who is frequently associated in fiction with electrical experiments, extraordinary inventions and technologies far ahead of his time. The Aero-Carriage seems to have come directly from an alternate reality in which electricity, magnetism and Victorian engineering allowed mankind to conquer the skies long before the arrival of modern aviation.

The steampunk aesthetic can be seen in almost every detail of the vehicle. Its wood-covered fuselage resembles an old carriage, while the copper parts, metal structures, pipes, rivets, exposed mechanisms and weathered surfaces suggest an experimental machine built during the final years of the nineteenth century.

Steampunk is a retrofuturistic style that combines elements of the Victorian era and the Industrial Revolution with imaginary technologies. Steam-powered machines, gears, airships, automatons and fantastic electrical inventions coexist with clothing, buildings and vehicles inspired by the nineteenth century, creating an alternative vision of the past in which many technological advances happened decades earlier.

Richard Cherry is an American artist and model designer interested in steampunk, architecture, fantasy, nature and esoteric themes. These influences can be seen throughout his work, which often combines imaginary machines and buildings with detailed textures and a very distinctive aged appearance.

On his former blog, Sirius Art Works, Richard documented several stages in the development of the Aero-Carriage. According to the artist himself, the project took approximately five months of intermittent work and went through many modifications. Before completing the model, he also completely redesigned the textures to achieve the result he wanted.

After all this work, the Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage was finally completed and published for download in Richard Cherry’s DeviantArt gallery in January 2011.

I have also included a close-up image of the cockpit in this post so that everyone can see just how detailed this model really is. The interior features a padded seat, wooden panels, instruments, gauges, controls and several small elements that help bring this fantastic flying machine to life.

As you can see from the images, this is not a model recommended for beginners. The assembly includes many small parts, curved surfaces and delicate details, but the final result will certainly reward all the time, patience and care invested in its construction.

You will find the model in two formats: PDF and PDO (Pepakura), so you can use the PDF to print the parts and the PDO as an assembly guide, since it allows you to view the model in 3D. A inspiração para o modelo vem de uma pequena história fictícia criada pelo próprio autor. Segundo essa narrativa, os projetos da máquina teriam sido encontrados nas profundezas de um antigo cofre esquecido sob a cidade de Nova York pelo arqueólogo Alixander Fletcher. Os documentos, datados do final do século XIX, mostravam os planos de uma carruagem voadora eletromagnética antigravitacional que, segundo rumores, teria sido projetada pelo próprio Nikola Tesla.

Essa origem imaginária combina perfeitamente com a figura de Tesla, frequentemente associada na ficção a experiências elétricas, invenções extraordinárias e tecnologias muito além de seu tempo. O Aero-Carriage parece ter vindo diretamente de uma realidade alternativa na qual a eletricidade, o magnetismo e a engenharia vitoriana permitiram ao homem conquistar os céus muito antes do surgimento da aviação moderna.

A estética steampunk está presente em praticamente todos os detalhes do veículo. A fuselagem revestida de madeira lembra uma antiga carruagem, enquanto as peças de cobre, as estruturas metálicas, os tubos, rebites, mecanismos aparentes e superfícies envelhecidas sugerem uma máquina experimental construída no final do século XIX.

O steampunk é um estilo retrofuturista que mistura elementos da Era Vitoriana e da Revolução Industrial com tecnologias imaginárias. Máquinas a vapor, engrenagens, dirigíveis, autômatos e fantásticas invenções elétricas convivem com roupas, construções e veículos inspirados no século XIX, criando uma visão alternativa do passado na qual muitos avanços tecnológicos aconteceram décadas antes.

Richard Cherry é um artista e modelista norte-americano interessado em steampunk, arquitetura, fantasia, natureza e temas esotéricos. Essas influências podem ser vistas em seus trabalhos, que normalmente combinam máquinas e construções imaginárias com texturas detalhadas e um aspecto envelhecido muito característico.

Em seu antigo blog Sirius Art Works, Richard registrou algumas etapas do desenvolvimento do Aero-Carriage. Segundo o próprio artista, o projeto levou aproximadamente cinco meses de trabalho, realizado de forma intermitente e acompanhado por muitas modificações. Antes de concluir o modelo, ele também refez completamente as texturas para conseguir o resultado que desejava.

Depois de todo esse trabalho, o Electro-Magnetic Aero-Carriage foi finalmente concluído e publicado para download na galeria de Richard Cherry no DeviantArt, em janeiro de 2011.

Eu também incluí neste post uma imagem aproximada do cockpit para que todos possam observar o impressionante nível de detalhes deste modelo. O interior possui assento acolchoado, painéis de madeira, instrumentos, mostradores, comandos e diversos pequenos elementos que ajudam a dar vida a essa fantástica máquina voadora.

Como você pode perceber pelas imagens, este não é um modelo indicado para principiantes. A montagem possui muitas peças pequenas, superfícies curvas e detalhes delicados, mas o resultado final certamente recompensa todo o tempo, a paciência e o cuidado empregados em sua construção.

Seven Easy-To-Build Little Robot Paper Toys - by Paper Foldables

Robots have always held a special place in the world of paper toys. From the friendly retro automatons inspired by 1950s science fiction to the giant machines of anime and video games, these paper creations have fascinated hobbyists for decades thanks to their simple geometric shapes, enjoyable assembly process, and the endless creative possibilities they offer.

Perhaps that is why robot paper toys have remained so popular over the years. This collection created by Bryan, from the excellent Paper Foldables website, is a perfect example of how a simple sheet of paper can be transformed into characters full of charm and personality.

This post brings together seven free paper toys, each presenting a different interpretation of the robot theme. Although they all belong to the same mechanical family, every model has its own distinctive style, as if each one came from a completely different universe.

Completing the collection is Claptrap, perhaps the best-known robot of the group. Bryan created this paper toy for 2K Games to help promote the release of Borderlands 2, and the model perfectly captures the character's exaggerated humor, endless optimism, and lovable clumsiness that made Claptrap one of the franchise's most recognizable mascots.

An interesting fact is that robot paper toys became especially popular during the early 2000s. Their simple construction allowed anyone to print and assemble them at home, quickly turning these little paper robots into collectible desk companions found in offices, bedrooms, classrooms, and studios around the world.

Twiki tem um visual simpático e amigável, lembrando aqueles pequenos assistentes eletrônicos vistos em desenhos e filmes de ficção científica. Já Berzerk 2600 presta homenagem aos robôs do clássico videogame Berzerk, lançado em 1980, recriando em papel o charme dos gráficos simples que marcaram uma geração inteira de jogadores.

O irreverente robô da série Borderlands 2 foi transformado em paper toy pelo próprio Bryan a pedido da 2K Games para ajudar na divulgação do lançamento do jogo. O modelo captura perfeitamente o humor exagerado e a personalidade desastrada que fizeram do personagem um dos mascotes mais queridos da franquia.

Uma curiosidade interessante é que os paper toys de robôs se tornaram extremamente populares no início dos anos 2000. Seu formato simples permitia que qualquer pessoa imprimisse os modelos em casa, transformando rapidamente esses pequenos personagens em peças de coleção espalhadas por mesas de escritório, estantes e computadores ao redor do mundo.

Cyberpunk Garage Papercraft Stand For Hot Wheels And Diecast Cars In 1/64 Scale - by Papermau - Download Now!

Here is another small stand/diorama in the same style as other models already published here on the blog, but this time with an atmosphere fully inspired by the cyberpunk universe, filled with neon lights, glowing signs, exposed pipes, worn concrete and that typical look of futuristic megacities seen in science fiction movies and videogames.

Just like the Hillbilly Garage Stand and other similar models already shown here on Papermau, this diorama was created especially for 1/64 scale miniatures, making it perfect for Hot Wheels, Matchbox and other diecast cars of the same size. The dimensions and assembly structure remain exactly the same as the previous models, changing only the textures and the entire visual identity.

The model fits on a single printed sheet and includes two complete stands on the same page, allowing you to build two separate dioramas or even combine both using the relief technique. The textures include wet concrete floors reflecting colorful lights, aged metallic doors, futuristic signs, illuminated panels, glowing windows and several small industrial details spread across the walls.

The assembly is simple and accessible even for beginners in the hobby and, for best results, I recommend printing on paper between 160 g/m² and 200 g/m². Those who wish can also add small LEDs to make the neon effect even more interesting.

A small tip for those who want to achieve that shiny, wet-looking effect seen in the photos: this can be done very easily by applying two or even three thin coats of regular white glue over the assembled parts. Simply use a medium-sized brush with soft or medium-soft bristles, spreading the glue as if you were painting the model. Once dry, the glue creates a subtle reflective finish on the floors and walls, while also helping to reinforce and “seal” the papercraft, protecting the colors against fading over time.

This small diorama is ideal for photographing miniatures, creating futuristic scenes, composing dystopian urban layouts or simply decorating your shelf with a compact scenario full of cyberpunk personality.

O modelo ocupa apenas uma folha impressa e traz dois stands completos na mesma página, permitindo montar dois dioramas separados ou até combinar ambos usando a técnica de relevo. As texturas incluem pisos de concreto molhado refletindo luzes coloridas, portas metálicas envelhecidas, placas futuristas, painéis luminosos, janelas iluminadas e vários pequenos detalhes industriais espalhados pelas paredes.

A montagem é simples e acessível até mesmo para iniciantes no hobby e, para melhores resultados, eu recomendo imprimir em papel entre 160 g/m² e 200 g/m². Quem quiser poderá também adicionar pequenos LEDs para deixar o efeito neon ainda mais interessante.

Uma pequena dica para quem quiser conseguir aquele efeito brilhante e meio molhado visto nas fotos: isso pode ser feito muito facilmente aplicando duas ou até três camadas finas de cola branca comum sobre as peças já montadas. Basta usar um pincel médio, de cerdas não muito duras, espalhando a cola como se estivesse pintando o modelo. Depois de seca, a cola cria um leve acabamento refletivo no piso e nas paredes, além de ajudar a reforçar e “blindar” o papercraft, protegendo as cores contra o desbotamento com o passar do tempo.

Este pequeno diorama é ideal para fotografar miniaturas, montar cenas futuristas, compor layouts urbanos distópicos ou simplesmente decorar a estante com um cenário compacto cheio de personalidade cyberpunk.

Astro Racer 666 Supernatural Impala Jet Papercraft - by Jan Rükr

This curious and hilariously fun papercraft of the Impala Jet was created by the talented Czech designer Jan Rükr, from the Aliens Papercraft website, and is directly inspired by the legendary 1967 Chevrolet Impala driven by brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in the classic TV series Supernatural.

But here the famous “Baby” received a full retro sci-fi makeover: it became a kind of turbocharged space fighter, ready to win intergalactic races and, between one race and another, travel across galaxies hunting demons, ghosts and interdimensional creatures.

The model is part of the huge Astro Racers series created by Jan Rükr, a collection packed with futuristic spaceships and vehicles. According to the author himself, this model spent an unbelievable fourteen years waiting to finally be released. Fortunately, he decided to pull it out of the cosmic garage before Dean Winchester showed up complaining about it.

In the text presented by the author, he explains that the ship was completely rebuilt by Dean using original parts while keeping the old propulsion system based on the “Van Horn mixer with thrust vectoring.” All of this gives the model that delicious 1950s and 1960s science fiction atmosphere, as if someone had mixed American hot rods, classic rockets and old late-night space TV shows together.

The papercraft is available for free as a PDF file containing only two sheets and a total of 17 numbered parts, making it a relatively simple model and accessible even for beginners in the hobby. The author recommends printing it on paper between 120 and 160 g/m² and reinforcing some parts using thicker 200 g/m² paper.

And honestly? There is something wonderfully absurd about turning a supernatural muscle car into a futuristic racing spaceship. It is exactly this kind of limitless creativity that makes the papercraft universe so much fun.

Tudo isso dá ao modelo aquele delicioso clima de ficção científica dos anos 1950 e 1960, como se alguém tivesse misturado hot rods americanos, foguetes clássicos e episódios antigos de seriados espaciais exibidos tarde da noite na televisão. 

O papercraft é disponibilizado gratuitamente em arquivo PDF contendo apenas duas folhas e um total de 17 peças numeradas, o que o torna um modelo relativamente simples e acessível até mesmo para iniciantes no hobby. O autor recomenda imprimir em papel entre 120 e 160 g/m² e reforçar algumas partes utilizando papel mais grosso de 200 g/m².
