A Medieval Castle Papercraft From The Early Days Of The Internet by Stefan Stihl

This impressive medieval paper castle was created by Stefan Stihl, the man behind the old German website Ritterburgen.de. The project was designed as a modular model, allowing towers, walls and other parts to be printed several times and freely combined. This means that each modeler can create a unique fortress, from a relatively compact castle to a much larger medieval complex.

The PDF file contains 22 pages and includes a wide variety of elements, such as crenellated towers, wall sections, different internal buildings, a fortified gateway, a drawbridge and even a chapel. Some sheets are intended to be printed more than once, taking full advantage of the modular nature of the project. The templates are presented mainly in black and white, giving modelers the freedom to choose their own colors before assembly.

There is also an interesting story behind this papercraft. The castle was originally designed using the old Windows Draw 4.01 program, and Stefan Hahn later converted the project into PowerPoint and PDF formats, making it much easier to print on modern computers. Easy-to-Build Scientific Research Vessel Papercraft for Kids by JOIDES Resolution

This interesting papercraft reproduces the JOIDES Resolution, a large scientific research vessel, and is available for free on the project’s official website as an educational activity. The model is relatively simple, but it includes some very nice details, such as the large drilling derrick, the bridge, helipad, cranes and even a tiny helicopter to complete the scene.

The PDF file has only three pages: the first one contains the illustrated assembly instructions, while pages 2 and 3 contain all the parts needed to build the ship. The creators recommend printing these two pages on heavyweight cardstock.

Despite its relatively simple appearance, there are some interesting details in the assembly. The hull is gradually shaped to follow the curve of the deck, and several small slots need to be cut to accommodate the drilling derrick and other components. The cranes are assembled separately, as are the bridge, helipad and the little helicopter.

The helicopter is a nice little model in itself: its two halves are glued together, the rotor blades are folded down and the small landing skids are opened so that it can stand on its own. Once everything is finished, it can be placed on the ship’s helipad.

The name JOIDES is an abbreviation for Joint Oceanographic Institutions for Deep Earth Sampling, while Resolution pays tribute to HMS Resolution, the ship commanded by British explorer James Cook in the 18th century. Like its famous predecessor, the JOIDES Resolution was also built for exploration, although many of the mysteries it investigated were hidden beneath the ocean floor.

After decades devoted to scientific expeditions around the world, the JOIDES Resolution ended its research operations in September 2024, which gives this little paper model an additional historical value as a miniature reminder of a very unusual and important scientific vessel.

Easy-To-Build Garden With Greenhouse Papercraft - by Rob Ives via Brother Creative Center

This charming Garden with Greenhouse is another creation by British designer and paper engineer Rob Ives, developed for the Brother Creative Center, the Brother website that offers a large collection of free printable projects.

Anyone who has been following Papermau for some time will probably already be familiar with Rob Ives' work. He specializes in papercrafts, paper toys and automata, and many of his projects combine relatively simple construction with very creative and clever solutions. His collaboration with Brother has resulted in a wide variety of models, ranging from decorative and educational objects to buildings, toys and paper mechanisms.

For this project, Rob created a complete miniature garden. The scene includes a greenhouse with a white frame and brick base, stone paths, trees, a small fence, flower beds, potted plants and flowers, as well as a raised garden bed. Everything is assembled on a single base, resulting in a very pleasant little scene full of details.

The PDF file is quite complete and consists of 15 pages in total. Nine of them are dedicated to the instructions, richly illustrated with photographs showing practically the entire assembly process step by step, while the other six contain the parts used to build the garden, greenhouse and all the small elements that complete the scene.

There is one small detail worth paying attention to when printing. Perhaps due to a simple oversight when the PDF was created, one of the six printable parts pages appears right at the beginning of the file, on page 2, while the other five are grouped together at the end, on pages 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. So, if you intend to print only the pages containing the parts and do not need the instruction pages, set your printer to print only pages 02, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15.

The instructions are especially well made and very visual. Even without long written explanations, the photographs clearly show how each part should be folded, glued and positioned, from the greenhouse structure and raised garden bed to the trees, flowers and other garden elements. This makes the project quite accessible even for those who do not have much experience with papercraft.

Besides working very well as a small decorative piece on its own, this model also offers several possibilities for miniature enthusiasts. The garden can be used as part of a diorama, incorporated into a model layout, combined with houses and other paper buildings, or used as scenery for small figures and vehicles of a compatible scale.

It can also serve as a starting point for a larger scene. By printing extra trees, plants, fences or garden beds, for example, you can expand the garden or combine its elements with other models to create a small residential area, a park, a community garden or any other setting your imagination may suggest.

This is another one of those Rob Ives projects that shows how a few sheets of paper, when cleverly designed, can be transformed into a miniature full of personality, and the fact that the file includes such detailed photographic instructions makes the build even more inviting.

Um pequeno detalhe merece atenção na hora de imprimir. Talvez por uma simples distração durante a criação do PDF, uma das seis páginas com peças aparece logo no começo do arquivo, na página 2, enquanto as outras cinco ficaram reunidas no final, nas páginas 11, 12, 13, 14 e 15. Portanto, se você pretende imprimir apenas as folhas com as peças e dispensar as páginas de instruções, configure sua impressora para imprimir somente as páginas 02, 11, 12, 13, 14 e 15.

As instruções são especialmente bem feitas e muito visuais. Mesmo sem grandes explicações escritas, as fotografias mostram claramente como cada parte deve ser dobrada, colada e posicionada, desde a estrutura da estufa e o canteiro elevado até as árvores, flores e demais elementos do jardim. Isso torna o projeto bastante acessível mesmo para quem não tem muita experiência com papercraft.
