Feudal Japan Kabuto Helmet Papercraft - by Pepakura Designer

Here is a very interesting papercraft that will surely please anyone who enjoys history, culture and paper modeling. It is a model of a traditional samurai helmet, known as a kabuto, available on the Pepakura Designer website, a space dedicated to sharing templates and papercraft models in Pepakura format. 

Pepakura Designer is a website specialized in models that can be used with the Pepakura software, a popular tool among those who build three-dimensional papercrafts. 

Pepakura files clearly show where to cut, fold and glue the paper in order to assemble the final piece, making the construction process much easier and more precise. 

This model represents a kabuto, the traditional helmet worn by the samurai, the warrior class of feudal Japan that existed for many centuries and whose cultural influence remains strong in Japanese culture and popular imagination. 

The samurai were warriors guided by strict discipline and a code of honor known as bushido, which valued loyalty, courage and respect. 

The kabuto, more than simple head protection, was a symbol of identity, often decorated with ornaments and crests representing the clan or the rank of the samurai. 

Samurai helmets evolved over the centuries, changing from simple metal plate protections into ornate and imposing pieces, featuring crests, neck guards and decorative elements designed to intimidate enemies and identify the warrior on the battlefield.

These helmets were composed of several interconnected parts and could include facial masks called menpo, forming an ensemble that combined functionality and aesthetics.

With this free program in hand, you will be able to transform paper into an impressive replica of one of the most emblematic helmets in samurai history, combining hobby and Japanese culture in a single project. 

According to the dimensions shown in the file, the assembled helmet measures approximately 420 mm in height, 385 mm in depth and 472 mm in width, proportions that are consistent with a life-size model, and the complete project is spread across 16 A4 sheets.

Classic Urban Row Houses Papercraft - by Papermau - Download Now!

These three facades represent a type of construction that was very common in working-class neighborhoods and small urban villages from the late 19th century through the first half of the 20th century. 

Although the stone textures may remind us of European buildings, especially English townhouses, the narrow proportions, the alignment directly with the sidewalk and the simple arrangement of doors and windows are very similar to the houses that were so common in Brazil until the 1960s. They were compact buildings, designed for narrow lots, often built side by side in continuous rows that gave a strong identity to the streets. 

The three models are different in appearance, but they share the same structural template. The other two houses were created using the same base pattern, with only the textures changed. This keeps the build simple while allowing good visual variety. 

They can be assembled individually or placed side by side as attached houses, forming a small old-style village, as shown in the images. Because they are complete facades, with side walls, roofs and a sidewalk base, they work very well as background scenery for mini figures, small vehicles or period dioramas. The construction is straightforward, but the textures add a convincing level of detail, resulting in a very realistic final look. 

This type of house was extremely common in Brazil until the 1960s and can still be found in some traditional neighborhoods. One example is the Mooca district in São Paulo, where many of these buildings are still standing. 

Unfortunately, with the expansion of the real estate market and the constant vertical growth of cities, many of these houses are gradually disappearing. In a way, recreating them in paper is also a way of preserving a small piece of urban history. 

Regarding scale, considering that the model fills almost the entire height of an A4 sheet and that the assembled façade measures around 18 to 20 cm tall when printed at 100%, the approximate scale is between 1/30 and 1/35, assuming a real building height of 6 to 7 meters. 

When printed on Letter size paper, which is slightly shorter than A4, the reduction is about 6%, resulting in an approximate scale between 1/32 and 1/37. Since all three models use exactly the same structural template, the scale is identical, ensuring perfect compatibility when displayed together.

Estas três fachadas representam um tipo de construção muito comum em vilas operárias e bairros populares do final do século XIX e da primeira metade do século XX. 

Apesar das texturas de pedra lembrarem construções europeias, especialmente inglesas, o formato estreito, o alinhamento direto com a calçada e a composição simples das portas e janelas dialogam bastante com as casas que foram tão comuns no Brasil até a década de 1960. Eram construções compactas, erguidas em lotes estreitos, formando fileiras contínuas que davam identidade às ruas. 

Os três modelos são diferentes entre si no acabamento, mas utilizam o mesmo molde, mudando apenas as texturas. Isso facilita bastante a montagem e ao mesmo tempo permite criar variedade visual. Elas podem ser montadas separadamente ou lado a lado, formando casas geminadas e criando uma pequena vila antiga, como mostrado nas imagens. 

Por serem fachadas completas, com laterais, telhado e base de calçada, funcionam muito bem como cenário para mini figuras, veículos em escala reduzida ou para compor dioramas urbanos de época. São modelos simples de montar, mas com bom nível de detalhe graças às texturas, o que garante um resultado final bastante convincente. 

 Esse tipo de casa foi muito comum no Brasil até os anos 1960 e ainda pode ser encontrado em alguns bairros tradicionais. Um exemplo é a Mooca, em São Paulo, onde várias dessas construções ainda resistem. Com a expansão do mercado imobiliário e a verticalização das cidades, muitas delas vêm sendo demolidas para dar lugar a prédios novos. De certa forma, reproduzir essas fachadas em papel também é uma maneira de preservar esse pedaço da paisagem urbana. 

Em relação à escala, considerando que o modelo ocupa praticamente toda a altura de uma folha A4 e que a fachada montada mede cerca de 18 a 20 cm de altura quando impressa em 100%, a escala aproximada fica entre 1/30 e 1/35, tomando como base uma casa real com algo entre 6 e 7 metros de altura. Em papel Carta, que é um pouco menor que o A4, a redução é de cerca de 6%, o que leva a uma escala aproximada entre 1/32 e 1/37. 

Como os três modelos usam exatamente o mesmo template estrutural, a escala é idêntica entre eles, garantindo total compatibilidade quando montados juntos. É um projeto rápido, ideal para criar pequenas ruas, vilas antigas ou composições urbanas nostálgicas, com um bom impacto visual.

K-Type London Bus 1920 Papercraft In 1/32 Scale - by Alan Grayer

Created by Alan Grayer and made available for free on his website, this K-Type London Bus 1920 papercraft is another fine example of how transport history can be preserved and celebrated through paper modeling. 

Just like the previously published B-Type from 1910, this model represents one of the classic double-decker buses that helped shape the visual identity of London’s streets in the early twentieth century. 

The AEC K-Type was introduced shortly after the First World War, beginning in 1919, and remained in production until the mid-1920s. Developed for the London General Omnibus Company, it marked a significant improvement over the earlier B-Type, offering structural refinements and increased passenger comfort. 

One of the most notable changes was the new driving position, with the driver seated beside the engine rather than behind it, allowing for better use of interior space and increasing capacity to around 46 passengers. With its wider body and more balanced proportions, the K-Type is often regarded as one of the first truly modern London double-decker buses. 

The paper model is presented in 1/32 scale, resulting in a generously sized miniature with strong visual presence once assembled. The classic lines of the vehicle, featuring the open upper deck and traditional red livery, are faithfully reproduced in this design. 

The download package includes printable sheets with all parts required for assembly, along with an additional file containing historical information about the real vehicle and illustrated instructions to guide the builder through the process. A blueprint-style drawing is also included, serving as a useful reference or even for coloring. 

This is a model that combines historical value with the enjoyment of hands-on building, ideal for those who appreciate classic vehicles, especially the iconic double-decker buses that became a symbol of the British capital.

Some Original Papermau Projects For 2026

This project, the Black Mesa Monorail Tram from Half Life, has already been featured on this blog in five posts spanning from April 2024 to September 2025.

In the last post, I announced that the model would be published in October 2025, but due to a number of factors, I ended up not finishing this project. This year I intend to finish it and publish it here on the blog.

This is the 3D version of a much simpler stand for 1/64 scale vehicles that was published here on the blog a few years ago. The gluing of the various pieces together on 2mm thick cardboard creates a very cool relief effect.

There's not much to say about this model; it's an urban stand, a sort of vignette for minifigures. I haven't decided on the scale yet.

The Ephemeral Museum - A WW2`s Style House Somewhere In Europe - Assembled by Ullie46

While searching on Google for ideas for new models, I ended up coming across an original Papermau papercraft that I published here on the blog back in January 2017. 

The model was built by a modeler named Ullie46, who shared a few photos in a thread on the German forum Der Lustige Modellbau, which can be loosely translated as “The Funny Model Building Forum.” 

The model in question is the papercraft A House in the Second World War Style Somewhere in Europe, and in this post you can see some of the photos that Ullie46 published there. 

In his text on the forum post, he explains that the approximate scale is 1/75 and that the door height of 26 mm corresponds to about 1.95 meters in real scale. 

He points out that the house offers the option to build recessed doors and windows, which creates a very nice three-dimensional effect. 

Ullie46 also enhanced the areas with deteriorated plaster by gluing a second wall over them, with the stone sections carefully cut out, and mentions that, at that moment, he was adding the roof tiles, row by row. 

He also said that he intends to add gutters and downpipes and then touch up the plaster with white paint to give the model an even more realistic finish.

Buscando no Google por ideias para novos modelos, acabei me deparando com um papercraft original Papermau que publiquei aqui no blog em janeiro de 2017. 

O modelo foi montado por um modelista chamado Ullie46, que publicou algumas fotos em uma thread no fórum alemão Der Lustige Modellbau, que pode ser traduzido livremente como “A Divertida Construção de Modelos”. 

O modelo em questão é o papercraft Uma Casa no Estilo Segunda Grande Guerra em Algum Lugar da Europa e, neste post, você pode conferir algumas das fotos que Ullie46 compartilhou por lá. 

Em seu texto no post do fórum, ele comenta que a escala aproximada é 1/75 e que a altura da porta, de 26 mm, corresponde a cerca de 1,95 metro na escala real. 

Ele destaca que a casa oferece a opção de construir portas e janelas embutidas, o que cria um efeito tridimensional muito bonito. 

Ullie46 também realçou as áreas com reboco deteriorado colando uma segunda parede sobre elas, com as seções de pedra recortadas, e comenta que, naquele momento, estava adicionando as telhas, fileira por fileira. 

Ele disse ainda que pretende acrescentar calhas e tubos de queda e, em seguida, retocar o reboco com tinta branca para dar um acabamento ainda mais realista ao conjunto.

About the Ephemeral Museum: I have been involved with papermodeling since 2005, although I had already been in contact with paper models since my childhood, back in the 1970s, through magazines that were occasionally sold at newsstands. 

I remember there were magazines with houses to build and dioramas or playsets of airports, Apache forts, nativity scenes, and things like that. 

With the advent of the internet, what happened was simply a rebirth of the papermodeling hobby for me and for many other people of my generation. 

This section, the Ephemeral Museum, is a place where I intend to show some of the models I have built over all these years. 

I would also like this to be a space where fellow modelers can share their own work.

Eu estou no papelmodelismo desde 2005, embora já tivesse contato com modelos de papel desde a infância, lá nos anos 1970, por meio de revistas que eram vendidas esporadicamente em bancas de jornal. 

Lembro que existiam revistas com casas para montar e dioramas ou playsets de aeroportos, fortes Apache, presépios e coisas do tipo. 

Com o advento da internet, o que houve foi simplesmente um renascimento do hobby do papelmodelismo para mim e para muitas outras pessoas da minha geração. 

Esta seção, o Ephemeral Museum, é um espaço onde pretendo mostrar alguns dos modelos que construí ao longo de todos esses anos. 

Também gostaria que este fosse um lugar onde amigos modelistas pudessem mostrar seus próprios trabalhos.
