Osaka Castle Paper Model - Construction Report - by PAOPAO.Inc via Canon - Part III

This is the third and final part of the assembly of the Main Tower of Osaka Castle. Printed on A4 sheets, the completed model measures 22 cm in height, 14 cm in width, and 16.5 cm in depth - not counting the black base, which I chose not to include in this build. 

Some parts of the construction were a bit tricky, and at certain points I thought the roofs would end up misaligned, but in the end everything came together nicely. I recommend this model to anyone who enjoys traditional Japanese architecture. 

As I mentioned in the previous two posts, the Canon website has been temporarily offline since the 26th of this month, undergoing changes both to the platform itself and to the sharing policy of its papercrafts.

It is expected to return on the 29th, but most likely only Canon printer owners will be able to download and print the already classic models available there. 

In any case, I’ll leave the link to Canon Creative Park at the end of this post. If the address changes, I’ll come back here and update it, okay?

Esta é a terceira e última parte da montagem da Torre Principal do Castelo de Osaka. Impresso em folhas no formato A4, o modelo completo mede 22 cm de altura, 14 cm de largura e 16,5 cm de comprimento - sem contar a base preta, que optei por não incluir nesta montagem. 

Alguns trechos da construção foram um pouco complicados e em certos momentos achei que os telhados ficariam desalinhados, mas no final tudo se encaixou bem. Recomendo este modelo a todos que apreciam a arquitetura clássica japonesa. 

Como já comentei nos dois posts anteriores, o site da Canon está temporariamente fora do ar desde o dia 26 deste mês, passando por mudanças tanto na plataforma quanto na política de compartilhamento dos papercrafts. 

A previsão é de que retorne no dia 29, mas provavelmente apenas proprietários de impressoras Canon poderão baixar e imprimir os já clássicos modelos oferecidos lá. 

De qualquer forma, deixarei no final deste post o link para o Canon Creative Park. Se o endereço mudar, volto aqui e atualizo o endereço, ok?

Osaka Castle Paper Model - Construction Report - by PAOPAO.Inc via Canon - Part II

I originally published this assembly on the blog back in March 2014. Now, in October 2025, the Canon website — which has been offering this and many other papercrafts for free — will undergo changes in its sharing policy: only Canon printer owners will be able to download the models. 

That’s why I recommend anyone interested in the Osaka Castle to download the file before the deadline, September 26, 2025 — which is tomorrow. After that date, the site will be offline for three days for maintenance and updates. 

Once it returns, it will remain accessible to visitors, but papercrafts will only be available for download or printing to Canon printer owners. 

The download link is right below, at the end of this post. 

In this second part, I’m sharing a few more photos of the Osaka Castle assembly. The model actually depicts only the main tower, since the full castle is much larger and occupies a vast area in the heart of the city. 

This central tower, standing 55 meters tall, can be seen from a distance and has become the most iconic symbol of this historic Japanese monument. 

In the two photos below, you can see the main tower that inspired this papercraft, as well as a panoramic view of the entire Osaka Castle complex. Together, they give a clearer sense of the grandeur and beauty of this important historical monument of Japan.

Por isso, recomendo a quem gostou do Castelo de Osaka que baixe o arquivo antes da data limite, 26/09/2025 — ou seja, amanhã. Após essa data, o site ficará fora do ar por três dias para manutenção e atualização. 

Quando retornar, continuará aberto a visitantes, mas os papercrafts só poderão ser baixados ou impressos por quem possuir uma impressora Canon.

Nesta segunda parte, compartilho mais algumas fotos da montagem do Castelo de Osaka. O modelo representa apenas a torre principal, já que o castelo completo é muito maior e ocupa uma vasta área no coração da cidade. 

Essa torre, com 55 metros de altura, é visível de longe e acabou se tornando o cartão-postal mais famoso desse importante monumento histórico japonês. 

Nas duas fotos acima, é possível ver a torre principal que inspirou este papercraft, além de uma vista panorâmica de todo o complexo do Castelo de Osaka. Assim, dá para ter uma ideia mais clara da grandiosidade e da beleza desse importante monumento histórico do Japão.

The model featured in this post is Osaka Castle. It has been quite a while since I last built a model from Canon’s Japanese website. Among those I’ve assembled are Kumamoto Castle and a few animals. 

I’ve always appreciated Canon’s models for their wide variety of themes — ranging from very simple to highly elaborate — as well as for their clear and detailed instructions. 

The model chosen for this post is Osaka Castle. It's not among the most difficult, but it requires careful assembly, and I recommend following the order indicated in the instructions.

It isn’t among the most difficult, but it does require careful attention, and I suggest following the order given in the instructions. 

The set is made up of 78 parts spread across 16 sheets of paper. The instructions take up seven pages and are satisfactory, but extra care is needed when folding, since not all fold lines are clearly marked — probably to ensure a more realistic finish. 

I recommend printing the model on 180 g/m² cardstock for better durability and appearance. For cutting, a precision knife such as the well-known X-Acto is ideal, though it can also be done with regular scissors — which requires plenty of patience, especially with the pieces that make up the castle’s roof.

Já faz bastante tempo desde que montei um modelo do site japonês da Canon. Entre os que construí estão o Castelo de Kumamoto e alguns animais. 

Sempre gostei dos modelos da Canon pela grande variedade de temas — que vão dos mais simples aos mais elaborados — e também pelas instruções claras e bem detalhadas. 

O modelo escolhido para este post é o Castelo de Osaka. Ele não está entre os mais difíceis, mas exige atenção na montagem, e eu recomendo seguir a ordem indicada nas instruções. 

O conjunto é formado por 78 peças distribuídas em 16 folhas de papel. As instruções ocupam sete páginas e são satisfatórias, mas é necessário prestar atenção ao dobrar as peças, já que nem todas as linhas estão bem marcadas — talvez para garantir um acabamento mais realista. 

Minha recomendação é imprimir o modelo em papel de gramatura 180 g/m², para garantir melhor acabamento e durabilidade. 

Também sugiro o uso de estilete (o famoso X-Acto knife) para cortes mais precisos, embora seja possível recortar com tesoura comum — nesse caso, será preciso bastante paciência, principalmente nas peças que compõem o telhado do castelo.
