Four Vintage German Half-Timbered Houses Papercrafts From 1982 Preserved By Kaukapedia

Today I am pleased to share a fascinating vintage papercraft collection preserved by Kaukapedia, the online encyclopedia dedicated to the world of the classic German comic magazine Fix und Foxi. Originally published in 1982 as inserts for Fix und Foxi Sonderheft, while Germany was still divided and these models were printed in what was then West Germany, several years before the country's reunification in 1990, this collection features four traditional half-timbered houses (Fachwerkhäuser), one of the most recognizable architectural styles found throughout Germany and other parts of Central Europe. More than forty years later, these charming models remain wonderful examples of a time when papercrafts regularly appeared in children's magazines, introducing countless young people to the hobby.

The collection showcases four variations of traditional German half-timbered architecture, a style that flourished between the 15th and 18th centuries. Builders can create a house with a side extension and twin chimneys, likely inspired by family homes found in small towns; a building featuring ground-floor arcades, typical of medieval marketplaces and commercial streets; a house with an exterior wooden staircase, common in rural communities; and an elegant residence with a dormer window, designed to increase the usable space beneath the roof. Although each model is simple to build, together they can form a convincing miniature historic European village.

One of the most appealing aspects of this publication is that it offers much more than printable templates. The instruction sheets devote considerable space to teaching the fundamentals of papercraft construction, making them feel almost like a beginner's handbook. Readers are advised to use fine-point scissors, a sharp hobby knife, quick-drying glue, a metal ruler and a sturdy cutting surface. They also recommend scoring the fold lines with the back of the knife blade before folding, a classic modeling technique that is still widely used by experienced paper modelers today.

Although no scale is specified, the finished models appear to be approximately 1/75 to 1/87 (HO scale), making them suitable for many historic village and railway dioramas.

The instructions also include a complete guide to the symbols printed on the templates. Solid lines indicate cutting lines, dashed lines mark fold lines, dotted outlines identify glue tabs, and scissors symbols show where material should be removed. These conventions may seem familiar to experienced builders today, but in 1982 they played an important role in helping children and beginners learn the craft with confidence and enjoyment.

Despite the printing limitations of the early 1980s, the artwork has aged remarkably well. The weathered clay roof tiles, exposed timber frames and textured plaster walls beautifully capture the atmosphere of Germany's historic towns. More than just four charming paper models, this collection preserves a small piece of European papercraft history, recalling a time when printed magazines helped inspire new generations of model builders through creativity, patience and imagination.

Hoje compartilho uma interessante coleção de papercrafts vintage preservada pela Kaukapedia, a enciclopédia dedicada ao universo das revistas em quadrinhos alemãs Fix und Foxi. Publicados originalmente em 1982 como encartes da revista Fix und Foxi Sonderheft, ainda na antiga Alemanha Ocidental (West Germany), poucos anos antes da reunificação alemã de 1990, estes modelos reproduzem quatro tradicionais casas em enxaimel (Fachwerkhäuser), um dos estilos arquitetônicos mais característicos da Alemanha e de outras regiões da Europa Central. Mais de quarenta anos depois, continuam sendo exemplos encantadores da época em que os papercrafts eram publicados regularmente em revistas infantis e de modelismo.

As construções representam diferentes variações desse estilo arquitetônico que dominou cidades e vilarejos alemães entre os séculos XV e XVIII. A coleção inclui uma casa com anexo lateral e duas chaminés, provavelmente inspirada em residências familiares de pequenas cidades; uma casa com arcadas no térreo, típica de edifícios comerciais e mercados medievais; uma casa com escada externa de madeira, bastante comum em regiões rurais e pequenas comunidades; e uma elegante casa com água-furtada no telhado, recurso utilizado para ampliar o espaço interno dos sótãos. Embora simples, os quatro modelos podem ser combinados para formar um pequeno centro histórico europeu bastante convincente.

Outro aspecto muito interessante desta publicação é que ela não se limita a fornecer os moldes. As folhas de instruções dedicam um bom espaço para ensinar técnicas básicas de montagem, funcionando quase como um pequeno curso de iniciação ao papercraft. Os editores explicam quais ferramentas utilizar, recomendando tesoura de ponta fina, estilete afiado, cola de secagem rápida, régua metálica e uma base rígida para os cortes. Também ensinam a vincar previamente as linhas de dobra usando o lado sem corte da lâmina, uma técnica clássica que continua sendo utilizada por muitos modelistas até hoje.

Embora nenhuma escala seja especificada, pelas dimensões das folhas impressas os modelos parecem situar-se aproximadamente entre as escalas 1/75 e 1/87 (escala HO), sendo adequados para diversos dioramas de vilas históricas e ferrovias em miniatura.

As instruções ainda apresentam uma legenda completa para interpretar os símbolos impressos nos moldes. Linhas contínuas indicam os cortes, linhas tracejadas mostram as dobras, linhas pontilhadas delimitam áreas de colagem e símbolos de tesoura indicam partes que devem ser removidas. Hoje essas convenções parecem familiares para quem já monta papercrafts, mas em 1982 esse tipo de explicação era especialmente importante para incentivar crianças e iniciantes a descobrirem o hobby de maneira acessível e divertida.

Mesmo com as limitações naturais da impressão da época, as ilustrações continuam muito bonitas, reproduzindo telhados de cerâmica envelhecida, estruturas de madeira aparentes e paredes rebocadas que capturam perfeitamente o charme das antigas cidades alemãs. É uma coleção que preserva não apenas quatro belos modelos de papel, mas também um pequeno capítulo da história do papercraft europeu, quando revistas impressas desempenhavam um papel importante na divulgação desse hobby para novas gerações.

The Evolution Of Niigata Station Papercraft Collection by City of Niigata

Most railway station papercrafts recreate a single moment in time. This collection is different. It allows you to build more than a century of architectural evolution, following the transformation of Niigata Station from its historic buildings to the modern elevated terminal seen today. Made available free of charge by the City of Niigata, Japan, these four papercraft models offer a unique way to explore the station's history.

The collection includes four different versions of the station, each representing a significant moment in its history. Among them are the former ground-level station, a memorial edition of a building that no longer exists, the first phase of the new elevated station, and the completed redevelopment as it appears today. Displayed side by side, the models create a fascinating paper timeline, allowing builders to appreciate the architectural and structural changes that have taken place over the years.

Originally created to promote the station's major redevelopment project, these papercrafts have also become a small historical archive. Some of the buildings and platforms represented in the models have since disappeared, making the collection especially appealing to anyone interested in architecture, railways, or preserving pieces of urban history in miniature form.

One particularly interesting detail is that one of the models depicts the station building inaugurated in 1958, during a period when Niigata was rapidly expanding as an important port and industrial city. This station remained standing during the historic 1964 Niigata Earthquake, a disaster that became world-famous for demonstrating the effects of soil liquefaction, a phenomenon in which seemingly solid ground temporarily behaves like a liquid during a powerful earthquake. Although the official website presents the models in a different sequence, I have rearranged the photos in this post into chronological order to make it easier to follow the evolution of Niigata Station over the years. A maioria dos papercrafts de estações ferroviárias retrata apenas um único momento no tempo. Esta coleção é diferente. Ela permite reconstruir mais de um século de evolução arquitetônica, acompanhando a transformação da Estação de Niigata desde seus edifícios históricos até o moderno terminal elevado dos dias atuais. Disponibilizados gratuitamente pela Prefeitura de Niigata, no Japão, estes quatro modelos oferecem uma maneira única de explorar a história da estação através do papercraft.

A coleção reúne quatro versões diferentes da estação, representando momentos marcantes de sua história. Entre elas estão a antiga estação em nível do solo, uma versão memorial do edifício que deixou de existir, a primeira fase da nova estação elevada e, por fim, o projeto concluído como pode ser visto atualmente. Montados lado a lado, os modelos formam uma interessante linha do tempo em papel, permitindo observar as mudanças na arquitetura e na infraestrutura ao longo das últimas décadas.

Originalmente criados para divulgar o grande projeto de modernização da estação, esses papercrafts acabaram se tornando também um pequeno registro histórico. Algumas construções e plataformas representadas nos modelos já não existem mais, o que torna a coleção ainda mais especial para quem aprecia arquitetura, ferrovias ou simplesmente gosta de preservar, em miniatura, lugares que fizeram parte da história de uma cidade.

Um detalhe curioso é que uma das versões retrata a estação inaugurada em 1958, construída durante o período de grande crescimento de Niigata como porto e centro industrial. Esse edifício permaneceu de pé durante o histórico Terremoto de Niigata, em 1964, um desastre que entrou para a história por revelar ao mundo os efeitos da liquefação do solo, fenômeno em que terrenos aparentemente firmes passam a se comportar como um líquido durante um forte abalo sísmico. As impressionantes imagens de edifícios inclinados, mas ainda de pé, ajudaram a transformar para sempre os estudos da engenharia sísmica.

Os modelos apresentam um bom nível de detalhes, mas sem serem excessivamente complexos, tornando a montagem agradável tanto para modelistas experientes quanto para iniciantes. The Steampunk Mansion Papercraft Project - Development Update And Free 3D SketchUp Model - by Papermau

Last week I shared a preview of this Steampunk Mansion and thought it would already be finished by this Friday. But, as often happens with personal projects, every time I work on it I find new little details that can be improved, so I decided to keep refining the model before releasing it.

Over the past few days I added balconies to three sides of the building, changed the position of some doors and windows, incorporated new pipes and gears into the walls and refined several textures to make the whole model look more balanced. As I keep examining the model in 3D, new ideas naturally come to mind, and it would be a shame not to include them.

The images in this post show the current stage of the project from several different angles. There are still a few details that I would like to improve and, because of that, if the model is not released later this week, it will simply be because I believe it can still be made a little better. I'd rather spend a few extra days polishing everything than publish it before it's truly ready.

In the meantime, I decided to share the three-dimensional version of the mansion with anyone who is curious to explore the project. The model is provided in the .SKP format, which can be opened for free with virtually any version of SketchUp, including the more recent Trimble releases. You can rotate the model, zoom in and out, inspect every detail and, since the file is not locked, you're also welcome to modify it or simply use it for study and inspiration. And, as always here on Papermau, the download is easy and safe, with no redirects, link shorteners or waiting pages—just click the link and download the file directly from Google Drive.

Interestingly enough, the 3D version of this mansion was built using the ancient SketchUp 6, released back in 2007. Despite its age, it remains an incredibly lightweight, fast and capable tool for the way I work. That's especially helpful because my own computer is a veteran as well: it still runs Windows 7 and has far less memory than what would be considered ideal nowadays. Compared to today's machines, it feels almost steam-powered... which, come to think of it, is quite appropriate for someone who spends so much time designing steampunk models. Along with the 3D model, I'll also include a link to a version of SketchUp 6 for anyone curious to try the same classic tool I still use today, as well as a link to Trimble's official website, where you can download the current free version of SketchUp.

Na semana passada apresentei aqui uma prévia desta Mansão Steampunk e imaginei que ela já estaria pronta para publicação nesta sexta-feira. Mas, como acontece com muitos projetos pessoais, enquanto vou trabalhando sempre encontro pequenos detalhes que podem ser melhorados, então resolvi continuar refinando o modelo antes de disponibilizá-lo.

Nos últimos dias foram acrescentadas varandas em três lados da construção, algumas portas e janelas mudaram de posição, novas tubulações e engrenagens foram incorporadas às fachadas e várias texturas receberam pequenos ajustes para deixar o conjunto mais harmonioso. À medida que observo o modelo montado em 3D, novas ideias acabam surgindo naturalmente e seria uma pena não aproveitá-las.

As imagens deste post mostram o estágio atual do projeto visto por diversos ângulos. Ainda existem alguns detalhes que pretendo revisar e, por isso, se o modelo não for publicado ainda esta semana, será apenas porque acredito que ele ainda pode ficar um pouco melhor. Prefiro gastar mais alguns dias aperfeiçoando tudo do que publicar algo antes da hora.

Seven Easy-To-Build Little Robot Paper Toys - by Paper Foldables

Robots have always held a special place in the world of paper toys. From the friendly retro automatons inspired by 1950s science fiction to the giant machines of anime and video games, these paper creations have fascinated hobbyists for decades thanks to their simple geometric shapes, enjoyable assembly process, and the endless creative possibilities they offer.

Perhaps that is why robot paper toys have remained so popular over the years. This collection created by Bryan, from the excellent Paper Foldables website, is a perfect example of how a simple sheet of paper can be transformed into characters full of charm and personality.

Their simple construction allowed anyone to print and assemble them at home, quickly turning these little paper robots into collectible desk companions found in offices, bedrooms, classrooms, and studios around the world.

O modelo captura perfeitamente o humor exagerado e a personalidade desastrada que fizeram do personagem um dos mascotes mais queridos da franquia.

Uma curiosidade interessante é que os paper toys de robôs se tornaram extremamente populares no início dos anos 2000. Seu formato simples permitia que qualquer pessoa imprimisse os modelos em casa, transformando rapidamente esses pequenos personagens em peças de coleção espalhadas por mesas de escritório, estantes e computadores ao redor do mundo.

Com a Copa do Mundo FIFA 2026 já em andamento e torcedores do mundo inteiro acompanhando cada rodada, o talentoso designer indonésio El Kerajinan preparou uma coleção muito especial para os fãs de futebol e papercraft. Inspirando-se no visual cúbico característico de Minecraft, ele criou uma série de paper toys representando as 24 seleções participantes do torneio, cada uma vestindo seu uniforme oficial e preservando as cores e detalhes que tornam cada equipe facilmente reconhecível.

Diferentemente de reproduzir jogadores específicos, a proposta desta coleção é representar cada seleção nacional através de simpáticos personagens no estilo Minecraft. O resultado é uma coleção divertida, colorida e muito fácil de montar, perfeita para decorar a bancada de trabalho, acompanhar os jogos da Copa ou até compor pequenos dioramas e cenários esportivos.

A Copa do Mundo FIFA 2026 já entrou para a história por ser a primeira realizada em três países anfitriões, Estados Unidos, Canadá e México, além de reunir um número recorde de seleções participantes. Pikachu Libre From Pokémon - Paper Model With PDF And Pepakura PDO File - by Darkcrash

Inspired by Pikachu Libre, one of the most charismatic and unique versions of the Pokémon universe, this beautiful papercraft was created by the talented designer Darkcrash and is available for free at the Papercraft LED website.

With its design inspired by traditional Mexican lucha libre, complete with mask, cape and champion pose, Pikachu Libre has won the hearts of many fans since its debut in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, later appearing in Pokkén Tournament and becoming one of the most popular variations of the franchise's iconic mascot.

This model is highly detailed and, once assembled, faithfully recreates every feature of the character. The complete papercraft is spread across nine printable sheets and is available as a PDF download. It also includes the original PDO file.

This file can be opened using the free version of Pepakura Viewer, allowing you to view the model in full 3D, freely rotate every part, understand how each piece fits together and greatly simplify the assembly process, especially in the more complex sections.

When opening the PDO file for the first time with the free version of Pepakura Viewer, a password request window may appear. Simply ignore it and click the Open with Pepakura Viewer option located just below the password field. The model will open normally and can be viewed without any limitations during the building process.

If you do not already have the free version of Pepakura Viewer installed on your computer, don't worry. At the end of this post you will find a link to the program's official download page. It is a lightweight and free application for viewing PDO files and an extremely useful tool for anyone building papercraft models distributed in this format.
