Today is Saturday and the official numbers for the Covid 19 epidemic in Brazil are 92 dead and 3417 infected. There is a declared war between the Federal Government and the governors and mayors of several states. While the President defends a lesser intervention of the State, with a lighter quarantine and opening of the commerce, the governors and mayors are the total equaventena favbor, with everyone inside the house and closing of the commerce, with the exception of supermarkets, pharmacies and essential services . It is clear that if this epidemic reaches the levels of Italy, the President will fall, because he bet high in affirming that this pandemic will have less consequences in Brazil. We'll see.
Field hospitals in stadiums seemed very distant things that we would only see in catastrophe films, but here in São Paulo the first one has already been set up at the Pacaembu Stadium.
Yesterday we went out just to go to the market to fill the pantry. Full market, shelves too, nothing is missing except obviously gel alcohol. There is a lot of liquid alcohol, but only 46 degrees, which is not enough to kill the virus, yet people buy, out of desperation and lack of information.
The nights have been long, with lots of reading and movies. The mood rises and falls, with the news on television. Here in Brazil they are testing chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, which, combined with azithromycin, apparently have a protective effect against the virus.

Hoje é Sábado e os números oficiais da epidemia de Covid 19 no Brasil são de 92 mortos e 3417 infectados. Há uma declarada guerra entre o Governo Federal e os governadores e prefeitos de vários Estados. Enquanto o Presidente defende uma menor intervenção do Estado, com uma quarentena mais leve e abertura do comércio, os governadores e prefeitos são a favor de quarentena total, com todos dentro de casa e fechamento do comércio, com exceção de supermercados, farmácias e serviços essenciais. Está claro que se essa epidemia atingir os índices da Itália, o Presidente cairá, pois ele apostou alto ao afirmar que essa pandemia terá menos consequências no Brasil. Eu aposto nisso também. Veremos.
Hospitais de campanha em estádios pareciam coisas bem distantes e que veríamos apenas em filmes-catástrofe, mas aqui em São Paulo já foi montado o primeiro no Estádio do Pacaembu.
Ontém saímos apenas para ir ao mercado abastecer a despensa. Mercado cheio, prateleiras também, nada falta a não ser obviamente álcool em gel. Há muito álcool líquido, mas apenas de 46º, o que não é o bastante para matar o vírus, mesmo assim as pessoas compram, por desespero e falta de informação.
As noites têm sido longas, com muita leitura e filmes. O ânimo sobe e desce, ao sabor das notícias na televisão. Aqui no Brasil estão testando cloroquina e a hidroxicloroquina que, combinados com a azitromicina, aparentemente têm um efeito protetor contra o vírus.
