Created by American product designer and model maker Joshua Humphreys, this beautiful paper model pays tribute to one of the most iconic vehicles in science fiction: the Police Spinner Type-S, straight from the visually stunning universe of Blade Runner.
For those unfamiliar with it, Blade Runner is a 1982 film directed by Ridley Scott, based on the novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick. The story takes place in a dark, neon-drenched, pollution-choked Los Angeles in the then-distant future of 2019.
Amid this dystopian setting of smoke, shadows, and acid rain, we follow police officer Rick Deckard as he hunts down and “retires” rogue androids known as replicants.
With its unique atmosphere blending noir and cyberpunk, the film became a cult classic and was followed by a sequel in 2017, Blade Runner 2049, which proved just as beautiful and haunting as the original.
In the film’s universe, the famous spinners are flying vehicles used by law enforcement and the upper class. While they can drive on the ground like conventional cars, they’re also capable of vertical take-off and flight between the city’s towering skyscrapers.

Joshua Humphreys' papercraft is clearly influenced by Mead’s original designs. Features like the angular body lines, ventilation patterns, embedded headlights, and warning labels such as “VEHICLE IS MONITORED” are hallmarks of Mead’s distinctive style, functional, brutalist, yet elegant.
His vision of a future cityscape is claustrophobic, technological, and disturbingly believable. The Police Spinner Type-S presented here retains the core characteristics of the original vehicle: enclosed cockpit, upward-opening doors, integrated siren lights, and rotating turbines for vertical lift.
At the same time, it introduces stylized elements such as more aggressive lines, enlarged windows, and additional textures that set it apart from the standard version.
The impact of this design goes far beyond Blade Runner. Its visual language has influenced other vehicles in sci-fi media like The Fifth Element, Ghost in the Shell, and even the video game Cyberpunk 2077.
In fact, a spinner can be spotted in the background of a flying traffic scene in Star Wars: Episode II, a subtle easter egg approved by Ridley Scott himself.
