Created by the talented German designer and model maker Jens Neuhaus, from Papierdenkmal website and made up of just 14 pieces organized on four sheets of paper, here is a very easy-to-assemble paper model of the Christ Church in Schwelm.
Regarding this model, Mr. Neuhaus said: - "You can see them from afar: the 56 meter high towers of the Christ Church are the landmark of the historic center of Schwelm.
The Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV personally launched the cornerstone of the three-aisled building in 1842.
After the Protestant church was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War, reconstruction took more than twenty years.
It was only sensationally completed in 1968: when a huge lattice boom crane lifted two new domes for the towers and the whole city celebrated.
This papercraft is particularly suitable for children. It can be printed on any paper and painted before assembly.
All components and gluing tabs are generously sized and cutting does not require any surgical skills.
To make construction as easy as possible, the model was reduced to its essential characteristics. The central nave is slightly compressed and the apse is not formed, only illustrated. The model allows an unobstructed view of the twin towers – a rarity in recent years.
Christ Church has been extensively renovated since 2019, because the limestone subsoil causes the towers to separate by several millimeters every year."
