Here is another small stand/diorama in the same style as other models already published here on the blog, but this time with an atmosphere fully inspired by the cyberpunk universe, filled with neon lights, glowing signs, exposed pipes, worn concrete and that typical look of futuristic megacities seen in science fiction movies and videogames.

Just like the Hillbilly Garage Stand and other similar models already shown here on Papermau, this diorama was created especially for 1/64 scale miniatures, making it perfect for Hot Wheels, Matchbox and other diecast cars of the same size. The dimensions and assembly structure remain exactly the same as the previous models, changing only the textures and the entire visual identity.

The model fits on a single printed sheet and includes two complete stands on the same page, allowing you to build two separate dioramas or even combine both using the relief technique. The textures include wet concrete floors reflecting colorful lights, aged metallic doors, futuristic signs, illuminated panels, glowing windows and several small industrial details spread across the walls.

The assembly is simple and accessible even for beginners in the hobby and, for best results, I recommend printing on paper between 160 g/m² and 200 g/m². Those who wish can also add small LEDs to make the neon effect even more interesting.

A small tip for those who want to achieve that shiny, wet-looking effect seen in the photos: this can be done very easily by applying two or even three thin coats of regular white glue over the assembled parts. Simply use a medium-sized brush with soft or medium-soft bristles, spreading the glue as if you were painting the model. Once dry, the glue creates a subtle reflective finish on the floors and walls, while also helping to reinforce and “seal” the papercraft, protecting the colors against fading over time.

This small diorama is ideal for photographing miniatures, creating futuristic scenes, composing dystopian urban layouts or simply decorating your shelf with a compact scenario full of cyberpunk personality.

Uma pequena dica para quem quiser conseguir aquele efeito brilhante e meio molhado visto nas fotos: isso pode ser feito muito facilmente aplicando duas ou até três camadas finas de cola branca comum sobre as peças já montadas. Basta usar um pincel médio, de cerdas não muito duras, espalhando a cola como se estivesse pintando o modelo. Depois de seca, a cola cria um leve acabamento refletivo no piso e nas paredes, além de ajudar a reforçar e “blindar” o papercraft, protegendo as cores contra o desbotamento com o passar do tempo.

Este pequeno diorama é ideal para fotografar miniaturas, montar cenas futuristas, compor layouts urbanos distópicos ou simplesmente decorar a estante com um cenário compacto cheio de personalidade cyberpunk.

Old Dutch Dike Warehouse Papercraft In HO Scale - by Schaalbouw

Offered by the talented Dutch designer Edward Paijmans, from the Schaalbouw website, this interesting papercraft depicts an old dike warehouse, buildings that were very common along the Maas and Waal rivers in the Netherlands, especially during the 19th century. These small sheds were used to store tools and materials employed in the maintenance and reinforcement of dikes, such as shovels, wheelbarrows, buckets and sandbags, all essential during periods of flood risk or for repairing damage caused by the water.

The warehouses were built at regular intervals along the dikes and were usually positioned directly on the embankment or attached to its inner side, functioning as small strategic emergency storage points. This model captures very well the simple and functional style of these historical buildings typical of Dutch riverside regions.

Designed especially for dioramas, model railroads and architectural maquettes, the model follows the traditional HO scale, or 1/87 scale, making it perfect for railway and urban scenes compatible with commercial miniatures of the same scale. The realistic textures of aged wood, roof tiles and masonry help create an extremely convincing appearance even in such a compact model.

The model is composed of two sheets containing the parts for assembly and also includes an extra sheet with very well detailed illustrated instructions, making the construction process easier even for less experienced modelers.

According to the author himself, the model was designed to be printed on 160 gram waterproof photographic paper, ensuring greater durability and excellent print quality. In addition, the assembly also requires some 0.5 mm thick cardboard to reinforce the internal structure of the model and provide extra rigidity to the walls and roof.

The Orion Spacecraft Official NASA Papercraft For Kids And Space Exploration Fans

This beautiful Orion space capsule papercraft is an official educational model created and released by NASA itself in its Learning Resources section aimed at students from Kindergarten through 4th Grade.

The model is inspired by the real Orion spacecraft, the vehicle developed by NASA for the Artemis program, the new generation of space missions that aims to take astronauts back to the Moon and, in the future, prepare crewed missions to Mars.

According to NASA itself, Orion will travel attached to the gigantic Space Launch System rocket, carrying astronauts on long duration missions around the Moon and beyond. The spacecraft is composed of three major sections, including the Crew Module, where astronauts live and work, and the Service Module, responsible for power, propulsion, water and life support systems.

One very interesting fact is that the Orion capsule was designed to withstand atmospheric reentry speeds exceeding 20,000 miles per hour, making it one of the fastest spacecraft ever built for human transportation.

Another curiosity is that Orion is larger and far more technologically advanced than the Apollo capsules used during the lunar missions of the 1960s and 1970s. It was created for much longer and more complex missions, including journeys that may last weeks or even months in deep space.

It is also interesting to know that Orion has a powerful emergency escape system capable of pulling the capsule away from the rocket in fractions of a second if something goes wrong during launch. This system is considered one of the safest ever developed by NASA.

The papercraft itself is surprisingly detailed for an educational model aimed at children and beginners. Even so, the assembly remains relatively simple and accessible, making it perfect for schools, science fairs, educational activities or simply for anyone passionate about space exploration and papercraft.

An Old Rusty Chevy ’52 Pickup - My First Hot Wheels Custom Project

This small rusty Chevy ’52 is my very first attempt at customizing a Hot Wheels diecast car. The original model used here was a 2006 Hot Wheels Hot Rod Shop ’52 Chevy, which originally had a clean glossy paint job and several decorative decals.

The first thing I did was disassemble the pickup, exactly as I had seen in some YouTube videos: using a thin metal drill bit and a lot of patience, I carefully “removed” the two rivets on the underside and separated the vehicle into three parts: the body, the red transparent windshield and windows piece and the base with the wheels.

Before even starting the painting process, I decided to lower the pickup, and that turned out to be much easier than I expected. I simply sanded the wheel supports a little and that alone was enough to give the truck a lower and more aggressive stance. I also thought about making rubber tires, but the tutorials I found looked a bit too complicated and required heat guns and other materials that I did not have at hand. So, at least for now, I decided to keep the original wheels.

The next step was removing the original decals using a cotton swab soaked in acetone. Then, using cotton also soaked in acetone, I managed to remove most of the original clear coat from the model, leaving the white paint looking duller, worn and slightly faded by time.

And then came the most fun part of the whole experience. I used red acrylic paint applied manually with a regular brush, giving the entire model two coats. After letting it dry properly for two days, I covered everything with a coat of matte black acrylic paint, also applied with a brush.

After another two days of drying time, I started the process that truly created the final effect. Once again using cotton swabs soaked in acetone, I carefully removed parts of the black and red paint. Little by little, with the mixture of those two colors reacting with the acetone, the rusty effect began to appear in a completely unpredictable and organic way.

The final result was exactly what I had imagined: an old pickup forgotten for twenty years inside a damp leaking barn. Almost like those abandoned vehicles sometimes found hidden behind old garages or forgotten rural farms.

Honestly, I enjoyed the experience so much that I am already thinking about future customs. I think I may have just discovered another hobby inside the hobby.

Este pequeno Chevy ’52 enferrujado é minha primeira tentativa de customização de um carrinho Hot Wheels. O modelo original usado aqui foi um Hot Wheels Hot Rod Shop ’52 Chevy, lançado em 2006, que originalmente tinha pintura limpa, brilhante e vários adesivos decorativos.

A primeira coisa que fiz foi desmontar a pickup, fazendo exatamente como vi em alguns vídeos no YouTube: com uma broca de ferro fina e muito cuidado, “desfiz” os dois rebites da parte inferior e desmontei o veículo em três partes: a carroceria, o acrílico vermelho do para-brisa e janelas e a base com as rodas.

Antes mesmo de começar a pintura, resolvi rebaixar a pickup, e isso acabou sendo bem mais fácil do que eu imaginava. Apenas desgastei um pouco os suportes das rodas e isso já foi suficiente para dar ao carrinho uma aparência mais baixa e agressiva. Pensei também em fazer pneus de borracha, mas os tutoriais que encontrei me pareceram um pouco complicados demais e exigiam pistola de calor e outros materiais que eu não tinha em mãos. Então, pelo menos por enquanto, decidi manter as rodas originais mesmo.

O próximo passo foi remover os adesivos originais utilizando um cotonete embebido em acetona. Depois, usando algodão também umedecido com acetona, consegui retirar boa parte do verniz original do carrinho, deixando a pintura branca com um aspecto mais opaco, gasto e levemente desbotado pelo tempo.

E então começou a parte mais divertida da experiência. Usei tinta acrílica vermelha aplicada manualmente com pincel comum, passando duas demãos em todo o modelo. Após deixar secar bem por dois dias, cobri tudo com uma camada de tinta acrílica preta fosca, também aplicada com pincel.

Mais dois dias de secagem depois, comecei o processo que realmente criou o efeito final. Novamente utilizando cotonetes embebidos em acetona, fui removendo cuidadosamente partes da tinta preta e da tinta vermelha. Aos poucos, com a mistura dessas duas cores com a acetona, o efeito ferruginoso começou a aparecer de forma totalmente imprevisível e orgânica.

O resultado foi exatamente o que eu queria: uma velha pickup esquecida durante vinte anos dentro de um celeiro úmido e cheio de goteiras. Quase como aqueles veículos abandonados que às vezes aparecem escondidos atrás de oficinas antigas ou fazendas esquecidas no interior.

Astro Racer 666 Supernatural Impala Jet Papercraft - by Jan Rükr

This curious and hilariously fun papercraft of the Impala Jet was created by the talented Czech designer Jan Rükr, from the Aliens Papercraft website, and is directly inspired by the legendary 1967 Chevrolet Impala driven by brothers Sam and Dean Winchester in the classic TV series Supernatural.

But here the famous “Baby” received a full retro sci-fi makeover: it became a kind of turbocharged space fighter, ready to win intergalactic races and, between one race and another, travel across galaxies hunting demons, ghosts and interdimensional creatures.

The model is part of the huge Astro Racers series created by Jan Rükr, a collection packed with futuristic spaceships and vehicles. According to the author himself, this model spent an unbelievable fourteen years waiting to finally be released. Fortunately, he decided to pull it out of the cosmic garage before Dean Winchester showed up complaining about it.

In the text presented by the author, he explains that the ship was completely rebuilt by Dean using original parts while keeping the old propulsion system based on the “Van Horn mixer with thrust vectoring.” All of this gives the model that delicious 1950s and 1960s science fiction atmosphere, as if someone had mixed American hot rods, classic rockets and old late-night space TV shows together.

The papercraft is available for free as a PDF file containing only two sheets and a total of 17 numbered parts, making it a relatively simple model and accessible even for beginners in the hobby. The author recommends printing it on paper between 120 and 160 g/m² and reinforcing some parts using thicker 200 g/m² paper.

And honestly? There is something wonderfully absurd about turning a supernatural muscle car into a futuristic racing spaceship. It is exactly this kind of limitless creativity that makes the papercraft universe so much fun.

Tudo isso dá ao modelo aquele delicioso clima de ficção científica dos anos 1950 e 1960, como se alguém tivesse misturado hot rods americanos, foguetes clássicos e episódios antigos de seriados espaciais exibidos tarde da noite na televisão. 

O papercraft é disponibilizado gratuitamente em arquivo PDF contendo apenas duas folhas e um total de 17 peças numeradas, o que o torna um modelo relativamente simples e acessível até mesmo para iniciantes no hobby. Edificios de Papel Returns - A Beloved Papercraft Website Comes Back After Ten Years

Today I want to share some news that made me very happy: after ten years of silence, the classic Edificios de Papel website is back.

For those who have been following the papercraft world for many years, especially in the Spanish-speaking community, Edificios de Papel needs no introduction. Created by Aníbal and Mónica, the site has always been a very special place, dedicated to paper models, miniature architecture, creativity and the preservation of a hobby that, although discreet, still brings together talented people from all around the world.

One very distinctive characteristic of their work, and something I have always admired a lot, is the care they put into offering their architectural models in several different scales. If I remember correctly, almost nobody used to do that back then the way they did, and are now doing once again.

This allowed the models to be used by many different audiences: from railway modelers and diorama builders to architects, collectors and people simply interested in building beautiful paper miniatures. It was a rare and extremely generous level of care for everyone who downloaded their models.

In a very sincere text published recently, Aníbal explained the reasons why the site remained inactive for so long. As happens with many personal projects, life changed, time passed, priorities became different and, little by little, that beloved space eventually fell asleep.

There was also another difficulty, something quite common in the old blog era of the internet: access to the site itself had been lost. The password was no longer available, recovering the account was not simple and, for a long time, it seemed that Edificios de Papel would remain only as a fond memory from a very special era of the internet.

Fortunately, after all these years, Aníbal and Mónica managed to recover access to the blog and decided to bring Edificios de Papel back to active life. For me, as someone who has followed this hobby for such a long time, it was really great to see this return.

In another text published on his website, Aníbal also shared a very interesting reflection about papercraft, the changes within the hobby, the new technologies and the way paper models started being created, shared and preserved over the years. The internet has changed a lot, blogs lost space to social media, many websites disappeared, many links were lost, but the spirit of the hobby remains alive thanks to the people who still believe in this kind of work.

And, to my great surprise, in that same text Aníbal made a very beautiful tribute to Papermau. He created a small paper building representing the blog (first image of this post) as a kind of safe harbor for designers, modelers and papercraft enthusiasts in general.

The little house created by Aníbal, with its wooden facade, the Papermau sign and the phrase “Maquetas de Papel de Todo el Mundo”, very generously symbolizes what I have always tried to do here since 2011: maintain a simple, open and welcoming space for everyone who enjoys paper, miniatures, dioramas, architecture and creativity.

I am not very good at making big emotional statements, but I really have to say that I felt truly grateful for the tribute and the kind words. It is very gratifying to realize that a blog made in such a simple, almost handmade way eventually became part of other people’s journey within this small but wonderful world of papercrafts.

So, here I leave my warm regards to Aníbal and Mónica and my best wishes for great success in this new phase of Edificios de Papel.

Long live Edificios de Papel!

Hoje quero compartilhar uma notícia que me deixou muito feliz: depois de dez anos de silêncio, o clássico site Edificios de Papel está de volta.

Para quem acompanha o universo dos papercrafts há muitos anos, especialmente no mundo hispânico, o Edificios de Papel dispensa apresentações. Criado por Aníbal e Mónica, o site sempre foi um espaço especial, dedicado aos modelos de papel, à arquitetura em miniatura, à criatividade e à preservação de um hobby que, mesmo discreto, continua reunindo pessoas talentosas ao redor do mundo.

Uma característica muito marcante do trabalho deles, e algo que sempre admirei bastante, é a preocupação em oferecer os modelos arquitetônicos em várias escalas diferentes. Se não me falha a memória, praticamente ninguém fazia isso na época da forma como eles faziam e voltaram a fazer agora.

Isso permitia que os modelos fossem utilizados por públicos muito diferentes: desde modelistas ferroviários e criadores de dioramas até arquitetos, colecionadores e pessoas interessadas simplesmente em montar belas miniaturas de papel. Era um cuidado raro e extremamente generoso com quem baixava os modelos.

Em um texto muito sincero publicado recentemente, Aníbal explicou os motivos que fizeram o site permanecer parado por tanto tempo. Como acontece com muitos projetos pessoais, a vida mudou, o tempo passou, as prioridades foram outras e, pouco a pouco, aquele espaço tão querido acabou ficando adormecido.

Além disso, houve também uma dificuldade bastante comum nessa velha internet dos blogs: o acesso ao próprio site acabou se perdendo. A senha já não estava mais disponível, a recuperação não era simples e, durante muito tempo, parecia que o Edificios de Papel ficaria apenas como uma boa lembrança de uma época muito especial da internet.

Felizmente, depois de todos esses anos, Aníbal e Mónica conseguiram recuperar o acesso ao blog e decidiram trazer o Edificios de Papel de volta à ativa. Para mim, que acompanho esse hobby há tanto tempo, foi muito bom ver esse retorno.

Em outro texto em seu site, Aníbal também fez uma reflexão muito interessante sobre o papercraft, sobre as mudanças no hobby, sobre as novas tecnologias e sobre a forma como os modelos de papel passaram a ser criados, compartilhados e preservados ao longo dos anos. A internet mudou muito, os blogs perderam espaço para as redes sociais, muitos sites desapareceram, muitos links se perderam, mas o espírito do hobby continua vivo graças às pessoas que ainda acreditam nesse tipo de trabalho.

E, para minha grande surpresa, nesse mesmo texto Aníbal fez uma homenagem muito bonita ao Papermau. Ele criou uma pequena construção de papel (primeira imagem deste post) que representa o blog como uma espécie de porto seguro para designers, modelistas e apreciadores do hobby em geral.

A pequena casa criada por Aníbal, com a fachada de madeira, a placa do Papermau e a inscrição “Maquetas de Papel de Todo el Mundo”, simboliza de forma muito generosa aquilo que sempre tentei fazer aqui desde 2011: manter um espaço simples, aberto e acolhedor para todos que gostam de papel, miniaturas, dioramas, arquitetura e criatividade.

Não sou muito bom com grandes declarações emocionadas, mas preciso dizer que fiquei realmente agradecido pela lembrança e pela homenagem. É muito gratificante perceber que um blog feito de maneira simples, quase artesanal, acabou se tornando parte da trajetória de outras pessoas dentro desse pequeno grande mundo dos papercrafts.

Por isso, deixo aqui meu abraço a Aníbal e Mónica e meus votos de muito sucesso nessa nova fase do Edificios de Papel.

Bem-vindos de volta, meus amigos. O hobby do papercraft fica melhor com vocês novamente por perto.
