Inspired by a real historical structure and spread across nine printed sheets, this is the papercraft model in HO Scale (1/87 scale) of the old freight depot at Engers station, offered for free by the official website of the German city of Neuwied. It’s a highly detailed model, perfect for enthusiasts of historical papercraft and railway modeling.
The original freight depot was built in the 1890s and was part of the infrastructure of Engers station, which was once one of the busiest freight hubs in the Middle Rhine region. In the early 20th century, hundreds of thousands of tons of goods were handled there annually.
Among the transported materials were raw materials for the steelworks and foundries of Bendorf, finished products from those industries, pumice stones from local factories, and clay goods from the traditional Kannenbäckerland region.
The building’s design was drawn up in 1892 at the former Railway Operations Office in Neuwied, located on Hermannstraße, where the Maximilian-zu-Wied-IGS school now stands.
Decades later, model maker Jürgen Moritz was fortunate enough to acquire the original plans from an antique dealer. Using those documents, he began developing the paper model. It took nearly three years and countless hours of dedicated work before the depot model was finally completed.
Neuwied, where this story unfolds, is a medium-sized city in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz), Germany.
Situated on the banks of the Rhine River and close to Koblenz, the city dates back to the 17th century and blends historical charm with industrial heritage in a setting typical of Western Germany.

Trata-se de um modelo altamente detalhado, ideal para entusiastas de ferreomodelismo e papercraft histórico.
O galpão original foi construído na década de 1890 e fazia parte da infraestrutura da estação de carga de Engers, que já foi uma das mais movimentadas do Médio Reno. No início do século XX, centenas de milhares de toneladas de mercadorias eram movimentadas ali anualmente.
Entre os produtos transportados estavam matérias-primas para siderúrgicas e fundições de Bendorf, artigos acabados dessas indústrias, pedras-pomes das fábricas locais e produtos de argila da tradicional região de Kannenbäckerland.
O projeto do edifício foi desenhado em 1892 no antigo Escritório de Operações Ferroviárias de Neuwied, localizado na Hermannstraße, onde atualmente funciona a escola Maximilian-zu-Wied-IGS.
Décadas depois, o modelista Jürgen Moritz teve a sorte de adquirir os desenhos originais de um antiquário e, a partir deles, começou a desenvolver o modelo em papel. Foram quase três anos de trabalho, somando incontáveis horas de dedicação até que o galpão estivesse pronto em forma de maquete.
Neuwied, onde essa história se passa, é uma cidade de porte médio localizada no estado da Renânia-Palatinado (Rheinland-Pfalz), às margens do rio Reno e próxima de Koblenz.
Com raízes que remontam ao século XVII, ela une tradição e memória industrial em um cenário típico da Alemanha Ocidental.
