This very well done paper model version of the German Airship Hindenburg was created by North American designer Bryan Tan, aka RocketmanTan and was originally posted at DeviantArt. LZ 129 Hindenburg was a large German commercial passenger-carrying rigid airship, the lead ship of the Hindenburg class, the longest class of flying machine and the largest airship by envelope volume. It was designed and built by the Zeppelin Company and was operated by the German Zeppelin Airline Company. The airship flew from March 1936 until it was destroyed by fire 14 months later on May 6, 1937, at the end of the first North American transatlantic journey of its second season of service. Thirty-six people died in the accident, which occurred while landing at Lakehurst Naval Air Station in Manchester Township, New Jersey, United States. This was the last of the great airship disasters; it was preceded by the crashes of the British R38 in 1921 (44 dead), the US airship Roma in 1922 (34 dead), the French Dixmude in 1923 (52 dead), the British R101 in 1930 (48 dead), and the USS Akron in 1933 (73 dead). O LZ 129 Hindenburg, ou simplesmente Hindenburg, foi um dirigível construído pela Zeppelin Company, na Alemanha. O dirigível, até os dias atuais a maior nave que já alçou voo, foi um ícone da indústria alemã amplamente empregado como propaganda nazista. Seu primeiro voo foi em 1936 e foi usado em 63 viagens durante 14 meses até o seu fim trágico em 6 de maio de 1937. Em 6 de maio de 1937 ao preparar-se para aportar no campo de pouso da base naval de Lakehurst (Lakehurst Naval Air Station), em Nova Jersey, nos Estados Unidos, o gigantesco dirigível Hindenburg contava com 97 ocupantes a bordo, sendo 36 passageiros e 61 tripulantes, vindos da Alemanha. Durante as manobras de pouso, às 19 horas e 30 minutos, um incêndio tomou conta da aeronave e o saldo foi de 13 passageiros e 22 tripulantes mortos e mais um técnico em solo, no total de 36 pessoas. O gás de hidrogênio usado para mantê-lo no ar, altamente inflamável, foi inicialmente responsabilizado pelo enorme incêndio que tomou conta da aeronave e durou exatos 30 segundos.
