Vintage Japanese Jumping Dog Game Papercraft - by Yume Omochae
I posted this vintage Japanese paper model here on the blog in May 2013. It came from a website called Yume Omochae, which unfortunately no longer exists.
Since I had the template saved on my old CDs, I decided to repost it by hosting the file on Google Drive.
I didn't have any information about this template, such as who created it or the year it was made. Using Google Translator, I only managed to get a few words, like "sweet times" and "May". Well, in May I already knew that in Japan they celebrate "Kodomo no Hi," also known as Children's Day or Boys' Festival.
There are several posts published on this blog with this theme. Just search for the tags "Japanese," "culture," and "kids."
It is a day dedicated to celebrating and honoring children, especially boys, wishing them health, happiness, and success in their future lives. During Kodomo no Hi, families display colorful carp streamers called "koinobori," which represent wishes for strength and courage for boys.
Samurai helmets, swords, and other objects associated with the warrior tradition are also displayed, symbolizing bravery and protection. It is a day to value and appreciate children and promote their healthy and happy growth.
As for the time it was published, I noticed that the children's clothes are in a Western style and the boy's outfit is a sailor suit. Further research revealed that Japanese children wore sailor-style clothes during the period known as the "Meiji Era" in Japan, which took place between 1868 and 1912.
During this time, there was significant modernization and Westernization in the country, including the adoption of certain elements of Western fashion.
Sailor-style clothes were inspired by the attire of European sailors and became popular as school uniforms for boys and girls during the Meiji Era and beyond.
These clothes were characterized by blouses with sailor collar-style collars and flaps, paired with shorts or matching skirts. The tradition of wearing sailor-style uniforms in Japanese schools is still observed to this day.

Nocturnal Celestial Globe Paper Model - by Paperpino - Globo Celeste Noturno
Italian modeler and designer Paperpino, author of this beautiful and very original paper model says: - "Petrus Plancius (Pieter Platevoet, 1552-1622) was a famous Flemish cartographer. He included new constellations in the austral celestial emisphere. In 1612, he drew 12 gores for a 14.5 cm diameter celestial globe, with eight new constellations inspired to the Bible. For the present model, the original gores published in 1649, were downloaded from the Bibliothèque nationale de France website. The colours of the original file were digitally converted in the “nocturnal” version here presented."
