I found this very interesting collection of architectural papercrafts on the official Hong Kong museums website. Called “Crafting Your Museums”, the collection was created for Muse Fest HK 2020 and features four very different museums and historic buildings from Hong Kong.
One thing you will immediately notice is that these paper models have no printed textures. This is intentional. The idea is to print the pieces on colored paper and let each modeler choose the colors and final appearance of the buildings.
I think this is actually one of the most interesting things about this collection. Without fixed textures, you can use different colored papers, draw your own details, add homemade textures or simply leave the models clean and minimalist. This also makes their shapes and architectural details much easier to see.
The four models represent very different pieces of Hong Kong's heritage. Flagstaff House was built between 1844 and 1846 and is one of the oldest surviving Western-style buildings in Hong Kong. Today it houses the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.
The Hong Kong Railway Museum occupies the old Tai Po Market railway station, built in 1913 in a traditional Chinese architectural style. Another very unusual model is the Fireboat Alexander Grantham, built in Hong Kong in 1951 and commissioned in 1953. After many years fighting fires in the harbor, the vessel was preserved and transformed into an exhibition gallery.
Completing the collection is Oi!, an art space housed in historic buildings with Arts and Crafts architectural influences.
The collection also includes small accessories such as people and trees, so you can create little scenes around the buildings. There are options for beginners and more experienced modelers, with instructions available on the website.
Encontrei esta coleção muito interessante de papercrafts arquitetônicos no site oficial dos museus de Hong Kong. Chamada “Crafting Your Museums”, a coleção foi criada para o Muse Fest HK 2020 e apresenta quatro museus e construções históricas bem diferentes de Hong Kong.
Uma coisa que você vai notar imediatamente é que estes modelos de papel não possuem texturas impressas. Isso é proposital. A ideia é imprimir as peças em papéis coloridos e deixar que cada modelista escolha as cores e a aparência final das construções.
Acho que esta é justamente uma das coisas mais interessantes da coleção. Sem texturas definidas, você pode usar papéis de várias cores, desenhar seus próprios detalhes, adicionar texturas caseiras ou simplesmente deixar os modelos com um visual limpo e minimalista. Isso também ajuda a destacar melhor as formas e os detalhes arquitetônicos.
Os quatro modelos representam partes bem diferentes do patrimônio de Hong Kong. A Flagstaff House foi construída entre 1844 e 1846 e é uma das construções em estilo ocidental mais antigas ainda preservadas em Hong Kong. Atualmente abriga o Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware.
