Tutorial - How To Make A Paper Model - Part 01 - Sketchup
Hello to all,
Here I start a serie of posts about how to:
1)design a model using Sketchup.
2) unfold this model using Pepakura.
3) apply textures using Mspaint.
I will try to be more objetive as possible and will try not be arrested by kill the English.
I start with a simple model (In the photo above). I make a video (without sound) of this model while I drew this. The video has 5 minutes and you can download it at the end of this post. In this video you learn how to make this simple church: how to "pull" the walls, the turret and the roof , then apply textures on it. In the next post, I will show how to unfold it using Pepakura and save it in .bmp plans or .jpg. Then after this, I will show how to apply real textures (Images taken from photos, like doors, windows, signs, etc), using MsPaint. My models are made this way.
For those who want to follow this tutorial, these free programs are necessary:
1) Sketchup 6 or anterior - ( version 7 and 8 don`t have support to Google Earth files (.kmz), at least in free version.
download: Sketchup.official.page
2) Pepakura Design 3 - I don`t know about other versions, but this version I know is compatible with .Kmz .
download: Pepakura.Official.page
3) MsPaint - If you get the old version (Windows XP), this is better to work that the most recent version. But the most recent also can be used.
download: You already have a version if you use windows. If you use Mac, download a Mac`s MsPaint version here: Paint.Brush.Mac

Locomotive Nº 1 Vintage Paper Model - by Power House Museum
Locomotive No.1 has had a very long and interesting life right here in New South Wales. She arrived from England in 1855 and was soon taking passengers around the town of Sydney.
Loco No.1 has been in the Powerhouse Museum's Collection for 120 years and has been restored most recently in 1980, when a team of dedicated people took 8 years to bring her back to life. In 1988 Loco No.1 took her place on her very own platform near the main entrance foyer inside the museum.

Australian Farm - by Power House Museum - Fazenda Australiana
This old fashioned model of an autralian farm is presented by Power House Museum.
Our original Australian outback farm set is very old and is kept safely in the museum’s collection. But we’ve copied it, and this set is yours to download and put together.
Kids just like you had no TV and electronic games in the 1920’s, and loved playing games like this on their playroom floors with brothers, sisters and next-door neighbours. We hope you enjoy building these models to display on a shelf, or to play with on your own floor.
Made in Australia in 1921. Patented by Albert Robinson, NSW. Purchased 1983. - text from Power House Museum

Brazilian Touristic Express Paper Model - by CPTM - Expresso Turístico
In the Touristic Express page, click in this box to download the model: |
The Real Thing |
The Touristic Express is a rail service was inaugurated in April 18, 2009 by the Office of the Secretary of State for Transport Metros and by CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos). Has the objective integrate points of tourist interest located along the railway mesh. The journey is made on board a train, formed by two cars of stainless steel manufactured in Brazil in the 1950 and pulled by a locomotive diesel of CPTM railway tracks.
