This impressive papercraft represents a Big Sister, one of the most frightening and visually striking creatures from BioShock 2. Created by paper model designer Destro2k, the model reproduces the character’s unusual diving armor in great detail, including the small rounded helmet with its red light, the metal plates attached to her body, the enormous needle used to collect ADAM and the equipment carried on her back.
Originally released in 2010, BioShock 2 takes players back to Rapture, an underwater city conceived as a utopia at the bottom of the ocean that eventually became a nightmarish dystopia. This time, the story follows Subject Delta, an early Big Daddy prototype searching for his missing Little Sister while exploring the decaying and partially flooded corridors of the city. During this journey, the Big Sisters appear as extremely fast, powerful and aggressive enemies, almost like more agile and even more dangerous versions of the enormous Big Daddies.
The design of the Big Sister combines elements of both the Big Daddies and the Little Sisters. Her armor appears to have been improvised from pieces of metal, straps, diving equipment and parts taken from the old suits once used by Rapture’s protectors. Despite her threatening appearance, small details such as colorful ribbons and drawings made by the Little Sisters on the equipment carried on her back create an unusual contrast between innocence and brutality.
The paper version created by Destro2k is a truly gigantic project. Once assembled, the Big Sister stands approximately 60 centimeters tall. The pieces are distributed across no fewer than 52 printed sheets, with a total of around 520 individual parts. According to the author, the finished model shown in the photographs required three full months of work, and almost all the exposed paper edges were carefully retouched to conceal the white areas.
The author also gives a very clear warning: this is not a model recommended for beginners. Destro2k rates its difficulty as 10 on a scale of 10 and explains that some improvisation will be required during several stages of the assembly. The files contain various notes and observations, and the author recommends that builders also consult the photographs of the construction process available in his gallery, where some of the more complicated sections can be seen in greater detail. At the end of this post, I will also leave a link to the gallery created by Destro2k especially to document the assembly of the model.
The download includes three files in PDO format: a colored version with fold lines, another colored version without fold lines and a completely white version with visible lines. The files are not locked and can also be edited by anyone who owns Pepakura Designer. The package additionally includes the original textures used to create the model.
To view and print this papercraft, you will need the free version of Pepakura Viewer. When the file is opened, a window requesting a password may appear. Simply ignore the password field and click the option to open the file with Pepakura Viewer, which appears just below it.
