A Roman Temple Paper Model In 1/100 Scale - by Secanda Models

This Roman Temple paper model was created by my friend, the great French designer and modeler Secanda. About this model he says:

- "This is the famous Roman temple of the Augustus time at Nîmes in Southern France: the so-called "Maison Carrée". This exceptionally well preserved temple was erected at the beginning of 1st century for the imperial cult. This temple was dedicated to the two adoptive sons of Augustus (in reality they were his grandsons) Caius and Lucius, to strengthen the future of the dynasty but they both died before their grandfather...

As my other architectural models, the scale is 1/100. The model has a removable roof and needs 21 sheets A4 to print. Note that two elements don't follow the reality of the present building:

#1. I added the inscription of dedication (to Caius and Lucius, the Augustus's grandsons) at its original place on the building's front. In the reality the bronze letters have disappeared (only the holes of the letters remain) and the complete inscription was restituted on a low wall near the building, not on it.

#2. I added the three statues of Augustus, Lucius and Caius inside the cella. It's pure fantasy because without archaeological remainings but it's very probable they were presented in a rather near way. However they are not to glue, it's just an option to populate a few the nude inside space of the cella.

Este modelo de papel de um Templo Romano foi criado pelo meu amigo, o grande designer e modelista francês Secanda. Sobre esse modelo ele diz:

- "Este é o famoso templo romano da época de Augusto em Nîmes, no sul da França: o chamado "Maison Carrée". Este templo excepcionalmente bem preservado foi erguido no início do século I para o culto imperial. Este templo foi dedicado aos dois filhos adotivos de Augusto (na verdade eles eram seus netos) Caius e Lucius, para fortalecer o futuro da dinastia, mas ambos morreram antes de seu avô ...

Como meus outros modelos de arquitetura, a escala deste é de 1/100. O modelo tem um teto removível e precisa de 21 folhas A4 para imprimir. Note que dois elementos não seguem a realidade do edifício real:

#1. Eu adicionei a inscrição da dedicação (para Caius e Lucius, os netos de Augusto) em seu lugar original na frente do edifício. Na realidade as letras de bronze desapareceram (apenas os nichos permanecem) e a inscrição completa foi restituída em um parede perto do edifício, não sobre ele.

#2. Eu adicionei as três estátuas de Augusto, Lucius e Caius dentro do cella. É pura fantasia porque não há vestígios arqueológicos, mas é muito provável que eles tenham sido apresentados de uma forma bastante próxima. Contudo estas estátuas são opcionais, para preencher alguns dos espaços no interior da cella.
