Osaka Castle Paper Model - Construction Report - by PAOPAO.Inc via Canon - Part III

This is the third and final part of the assembly of the Main Tower of Osaka Castle. Printed on A4 sheets, the completed model measures 22 cm in height, 14 cm in width, and 16.5 cm in depth - not counting the black base, which I chose not to include in this build. 

Some parts of the construction were a bit tricky, and at certain points I thought the roofs would end up misaligned, but in the end everything came together nicely. I recommend this model to anyone who enjoys traditional Japanese architecture. 

As I mentioned in the previous two posts, the Canon website has been temporarily offline since the 26th of this month, undergoing changes both to the platform itself and to the sharing policy of its papercrafts.

It is expected to return on the 29th, but most likely only Canon printer owners will be able to download and print the already classic models available there.

Esta é a terceira e última parte da montagem da Torre Principal do Castelo de Osaka. Impresso em folhas no formato A4, o modelo completo mede 22 cm de altura, 14 cm de largura e 16,5 cm de comprimento - sem contar a base preta, que optei por não incluir nesta montagem. 

Alguns trechos da construção foram um pouco complicados e em certos momentos achei que os telhados ficariam desalinhados, mas no final tudo se encaixou bem. Recomendo este modelo a todos que apreciam a arquitetura clássica japonesa. 

Como já comentei nos dois posts anteriores, o site da Canon está temporariamente fora do ar desde o dia 26 deste mês, passando por mudanças tanto na plataforma quanto na política de compartilhamento dos papercrafts. 

A previsão é de que retorne no dia 29, mas provavelmente apenas proprietários de impressoras Canon poderão baixar e imprimir os já clássicos modelos oferecidos lá. 

De qualquer forma, deixarei no final deste post o link para o Canon Creative Park. Se o endereço mudar, volto aqui e atualizo o endereço, ok?

Easy-To-Build Retro Japanese Color Television Papercraft For Kids by Shinagawa City

On the official website of Shinagawa City, Tokyo, there is a small section dedicated to objects that were part of everyday life in Japan during the 20th century. 

Among them is the color television, which began to spread in Japan in the 1960s and marked an important change in the way families consumed information and entertainment. 

The site briefly recounts this history, reminding us how the arrival of color transformed the television experience and quickly became a symbol of modern life in many households. 

To illustrate this period, a charming papercraft was created that reproduces one of these vintage color TV sets. The model captures the solid, rectangular shape of the device, the thick screen, the rotary knobs, and even the wooden cabinet design that surrounded many of these machines. 

A remote control is nowhere to be seen, of course, since that feature would only come many years later. 

This is not just a decorative project but also an educational one, serving as a visual and hands-on complement to the historical narrative presented by the city. The idea is simple: to allow anyone, regardless of age, to engage directly with a piece of Japan’s technological memory. 

By building the papercraft, visitors can experience in a playful way what the website conveys through text and images, creating a bridge between historical research and manual craft. 

The Shinagawa color TV papercraft is more than just a pastime; it is also a way to preserve and share the memory of an object that once represented the future and has now become part of everyday cultural heritage.

Na página da prefeitura de Shinagawa, em Tóquio, há uma pequena seção dedicada a objetos que fizeram parte da vida cotidiana dos japoneses no século XX. 

Entre eles está a televisão colorida, que começou a se popularizar no Japão a partir da década de 1960 e marcou uma mudança importante na forma como as famílias consumiam informação e entretenimento. 

O site conta um pouco dessa história, lembrando como a chegada da cor transformou a experiência de assistir TV e se tornou símbolo de modernidade em muitas casas. 

Para ilustrar esse período, foi criado um simpático papercraft que reproduz um desses antigos televisores coloridos. O modelo procura manter as linhas retangulares e sólidas do aparelho, a tela espessa, os botões giratórios e até o aspecto da caixa de madeira que envolvia muitos desses equipamentos. 

Controle remoto, nem pensar, já que esse dispositivo só foi inventado muitos anos depois. 

Não é um projeto apenas decorativo, mas também educativo, já que funciona como complemento à narrativa histórica oferecida pela própria prefeitura. A proposta é simples: permitir que qualquer pessoa, independentemente da idade, possa ter contato direto com um pedaço da memória tecnológica do Japão. 

Ao montar o papercraft, o visitante experimenta de forma lúdica aquilo que o site procura transmitir em palavras e imagens, criando uma ponte entre a pesquisa histórica e a prática manual. 

O papercraft da televisão colorida de Shinagawa não é apenas um passatempo, mas também uma forma de preservar e compartilhar a lembrança de um objeto que um dia representou o futuro, e que hoje se tornou parte do patrimônio cultural cotidiano.

Yogen no Tori - The Prophetic Bird Folklore Creature Papercraft by Yamanashi Prefectural Museum

On the website of the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum in Japan, you can find a free papercraft of the Yogen no Tori, or “Prophetic Bird.” 

This curious figure appears in 19th-century records during a cholera epidemic, described as a two-headed bird, one head black and the other white, that appeared to foretell hard times but also to bring words of hope to those who believed in its message. 

The paper model recreates this creature from Japanese folklore, resembling a crow with fantastical traits that connect it to the world of yokai, the supernatural beings and spirits of traditional tales. 

The papercraft is spread across three printable sheets and comes with very detailed instructions made up entirely of step-by-step photographs. This visual guide allows anyone, regardless of language, to assemble the model without difficulty. 

The site that hosts the papercraft is maintained by the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum, an institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the historical, natural, and cultural heritage of the region. 

In addition to its physical exhibitions, the museum also offers educational online initiatives like this model, which connects past and present through Japanese popular culture, giving the public a simple and accessible activity that also carries historical meaning.

No site do Museu Prefectural de Yamanashi, no Japão, é possível encontrar um papercraft gratuito do Yogen no Tori, ou “Pássaro da Profecia”. 

Essa figura curiosa aparece em registros do século XIX, durante uma epidemia de cólera, descrita como uma ave de duas cabeças, uma preta e outra branca, que surgia para anunciar tempos difíceis, mas também para trazer conselhos de esperança às pessoas que acreditassem em sua mensagem. 

O modelo em papel reproduz essa criatura do folclore japonês, lembrando um corvo com traços fantásticos, que mistura elementos de yokai, os espíritos e entidades sobrenaturais da tradição nipônica. 

O papercraft ocupa três folhas para impressão e vem acompanhado de instruções bem detalhadas, compostas apenas por fotografias de cada etapa da montagem. Isso torna o processo acessível a qualquer pessoa, já que não há necessidade de compreender textos em japonês ou em qualquer outro idioma. 

O site que oferece o papercraft é mantido pelo Museu Prefectural de Yamanashi, instituição que preserva e divulga a herança histórica, natural e cultural da província. 

Além de exposições presenciais, o museu promove iniciativas educativas online como esse modelo, que conecta o passado ao presente por meio da cultura popular japonesa, oferecendo ao público uma atividade simples e acessível que ao mesmo tempo carrega um significado histórico.

Carburator King Garage Papercraft In 1/64 Scale - by Papermau Download Next Week!

In the same style as Fante’s Garage, posted here on the blog earlier this month, I present another model for paper diorama enthusiasts: the Carburetor King Auto Service, a garage that recalls the roadside workshops and gas stations of the 1960s and 70s. 

The diorama features characteristic elements such as vintage gas pumps, metal signs, posters, and even an icebox by the door. It was designed to serve as a 1/64 scale scene, compatible with Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Johnny Lightning, GreenLight, Majorette, and other similar diecast brands. 

The idea is to recreate a small roadside station that operated day and night, offering everything from oil changes to towing services. Establishments like this can still be found along Brazilian highways, especially near entrances to small towns. 

The textures show signs of wear and aging, with stained bricks, weathered wood, and faded signs, enhancing the realistic look of the scene. 

In the build shown in the photos, I added LED lighting powered by an old phone charger. The output is through a USB plug, which allows me to connect it either to a charger or directly to a computer port. 

The lighting highlights the signs and makes the diorama suitable not only as a display piece but also as a decorative item or even as a small lamp, since the light is soft. 

Like other Papermau models, the Carburetor King Auto Service is simple to assemble and leaves room for customization: a wooden base, synthetic grass, lighting, extra accessories, and even personalized signs, as I left some blank plates for those who want to create their own version.

No mesmo estilo da Fante’s Garage, postada aqui no blog no começo deste mês, apresento mais um modelo para os fãs de dioramas em papel: a Carburetor King Auto Service, uma garagem que remete às oficinas e postos de beira de estrada dos anos 60 e 70. 

O diorama traz elementos característicos, como bombas de gasolina antigas, placas de metal, cartazes e até uma caixa de gelo ao lado da porta. Ele foi projetado para servir como cenário em escala 1/64, compatível com carrinhos Hot Wheels, Matchbox, Johnny Lightning, GreenLight, Majorette e outras marcas. 

A proposta é recriar um pequeno posto que funcionava dia e noite, oferecendo desde troca de óleo até serviço de guincho. Ainda hoje é possível encontrar estabelecimentos semelhantes em estradas brasileiras, principalmente nas entradas de cidades do interior. 

As texturas mostram sinais de uso e tempo, com tijolos manchados, madeira gasta e letreiros desbotados, reforçando o aspecto realista da cena. 

Na montagem que você vê nas fotos, adicionei iluminação LED aproveitando um carregador de celular antigo. A saída é via USB, o que permite ligar tanto em um carregador quanto direto em uma porta de computador. 

A iluminação valoriza os letreiros e dá ao conjunto a possibilidade de ser usado não apenas como diorama, mas também como peça decorativa ou até como luminária, já que a luz é suave.

Assim como outros modelos do Papermau, a Carburetor King Auto Service é simples de montar e oferece espaço para customizações: base de madeira, grama sintética, iluminação, acessórios extras e até letreiros personalizados, já que deixei algumas placas em branco para quem quiser criar sua própria versão.
