The Ephemeral Museum - 1751`s Spanish Ship Rayo Paper Model
Assembled by Manuel Màrquez

My new friend from Huelva, Spain, the modeler Manuel Màrquez, built this beautiful paper model of the 1751`s Spanish Ship Rayo and kindly sent me some photos of his nice work. He said: _ "Hello Mauther, I'm sending you some photos of the model I built from Ship Rayo (1751), of the Spanish Armada. Originally built with 80 cannons and then increased to one hundred. He participated in the US War of Independence against the British in 1779. He participated in the bombing of Algiers in 1784 and also of the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Due to a storm after this battle, Rayo sank near the Arenas Gordas Beach in Huelva and currently lies 300 meters from the coast, at a depth of 7 meters." - Many thanks, Manuel, for the great photos and for the history! Greetings from Brazil to Spain! - Mauther

- Mauther

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. Today I am opening a new session here on the blog, the Ephemeral Museum , which is a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

mautherous@gmail.com

All who submit their work will be published, without exceptions.

...............................................................................................................................................................................

Kabuto - Samurai Helmet Laced With Red Threads Paper Model
by Hirai Tosiaki & MINYA

Created by Japanese designers Hirai Tosiaki & MINYA for Canon's website, this is the third model of a series of samurai themed papercrafts.

This Kabuto, the Samurai Helmet Laced With Red Threads, seems to me to be on an approximate scale of 1/50, but I'm just relying on the templates, so I do not have assurance.

Japanese Sword Mikazuki Munechika Paper Model - by Hirai Tosiaki & MINYA

Created by Japanese designers Hirai Tosiaki & MINYA for Canon's website, this beautiful miniature paper model of a legendary katana, the Mikazuki Munechika, considered one of the five greatest swords of Japan, forged during the Heian period by the master swordsmith Sanjo Kokaji Munechika. The sword is named for the pattern in the folds of steel that resembles many crescent moons, or "mikazuki" in Japanese. The Mikazuki Munechika, occupies only two sheets of paper and seems to me to be on an approximate scale of 1/50, but I'm just relying on the templates, so I do not have assurance. - Again I say thanks to my friend Jo Kizinger for another beautiful find!
