Paper Model History - 19th Century Zoo - A Vintage Paper Model
by Power House Museum
This paper model was originally posted here on the blog in 2011, right at the beginning of Papermau. Today reviewing broken links, I noticed that the original page where this model was published, no longer exists. As I had these templates saved on my HD, I decided to host them on Google Drive and share them again.
This playset of a Zoo was originally printed in Germany in 1860 (161 years ago !!!). This type of cut-out toy was very popular in Europe in the late 19th century.
I am always amazed at how delicate and ephemeral things made of paper can get through today. Hands that are no longer hands created this and other small hands that are no longer hands played with it.

Shakespeare Globe Theatre - by Paper Toys.Com
The Globe Theatre was a theatre in London associated with William Shakespeare. It was built in 1599 by Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, and was destroyed by fire on 29 June 1613. A second Globe Theatre was built on the same site by June 1614 and closed in 1642.
A modern reconstruction of the Globe, named "Shakespeare's Globe", opened in 1997, approximately 750 feet (230 m) from the site of the original theatre. - Wikipedia
The second Globe, preliminary sketch (c. 1638) for Hollar's 1647 Long View of London |
- Wikipedia

Color And Build Your Own Duyfken Ship - by Duyfken.Com
In 1606 the small jacht Duyfken, owned by the Dutch East India Company and stationed in the East Indies, made a voyage of exploration looking for "east and south lands" which took it to Australia's Cape York Peninsula. That voyage is the first historically recorded voyage to Australia. As part of bringing Australian history to life, the Duyfken replica was built at the Lotteries Duyfken Village Shipyard in front of the Maritime Museum in Fremantle. The keel was laid by the Dutch Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of Orange on 12th January 1997.
The construction process was very different from...read more at www.duyfken.com
