This is the old Église Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Sainte-Mère-Église (The D-Day church), the newest paper model in 1/100 scale created by my friend, the French designer and modeler Secanda. You will find many other unique paper models there, as can be seen on the images of this post.

| The Real Thing |
Secanda diz: - "This beautiful arcitectural model is an
interesting and typical Norman Gothic church but it is mainly
worldwide famous as having been an important battle place during the D-Day night when
US paratroopers jumped on Sainte-Mère-Église to cut the German lines back of Utah Beach. One of the
paratroopers was hooked by a pinacle of the church tower and stayed
a few hours hanged as a powerless witness of the battle. This event was
immortalized in the US movie "The longest day". From this time,
this church is become one of the main symbols of the D-day events and
a lot of D-Day celebrations with US war veterans were
organized afterwards up to now in front of the church. From the
WW2 time, the
name of the church was changed from "Our Lady of the Assumption" to "Our Lady of the Peace", the
two names being in parallel use, but
out of France its nickname is the best known: the D-Day church! I made this paper model in 2019 for celebrating the 75th anniversary of the D-day. More than a lonely model it can be useful, I think, for D-Day themed dioramas."

| Artistic Recreation of the Famous D-Day Event |
Secanda diz: - "Este belo arquitetônico é de uma interessante e típica igreja gótica normanda que ficou mundialmente famosa por ter sido
palco de uma batalha importante durante a noite do Dia D, quando os
pára-quedistas dos EUA saltaram emSainte-Mère-Église para cortar as linhas alemãs das praias de Utah. Um dos paraquedistas feridos ficou pendurado por um pináculo da torre da igreja e ficou por algumas horas lá, como
uma testemunha impotente da batalha. Este evento foi
imortalizado no filme americano "O Mais Longo Dia". A partir daí,
esta igreja tornou-se um dos principais símbolos dos eventos do dia D e
muitas das comemorações deste dia com veteranos de guerra dos EUA foram
organizadas posteriormente em frente a esta igreja. Desde a
Segunda Guerra Mundial, o nome da igreja foi alterado de
"Nossa Senhora do a Assunção "a" Nossa Senhora da Paz ", estando
os dois nomes em uso paralelo, mas
fora da França seu apelido é o mais conhecido: a Igreja do dia D! Fiz este modelo de papel em 2019 para comemorar o 75º aniversário do dia D. Mais do que um modelo de exibição solitária, eu creio que possa ser útil para dioramas com temática do Dia D."
