Chinese Zodiac Animals Paper Toy Collection - by Canon

Here is an easy-to-build paper toy collection of Chinese Zodiac Animals, offered by Canon website. 

There are twelve paper toys, one for each month of the year. This series brought together on a single page you will only find if you visit Canon website in Japanese language.

If you usually enter the site in English (or Portuguese in my case), or any language other than Japanese you will not find this model and many others that only appear in the Japanese version. 

So I urge you all to periodically visit the site by choosing the Japanese language and scouring the various topics. There are many paper models that, for cultural reasons, I believe, Canon only published in their mother tongue.

Chinese Lion Dance - A Lucky Item Paper Model - by Katsuyuki Shiga

A lion dance is an important traditional type of dance performed at Chinese New Year, festivals, wedding ceremonies, and other celebratory occasions.

The lion is said to repel evil and bring good fortune, and is a popular icon in China and towns around the world. In China, people of the same nationality speak in different dialects depending on the region they live in, and in the same way, the lion dance also varies in different areas. 

Broadly speaking, it can be divided into two styles: northern and southern. The northern style is performed mainly in areas in north China and features movements based on martial arts. The southern style, performed mainly in the south, is known for its acrobatic dancing style. 

This paper craft model is based on the southern style of lion dance, and has a main color tone of red, which is said to be a lucky color.

A Dança do Leão é uma espécie de dança tradicional muito importante no Ano Novo Chinês e é realizada em cerimônias, festivais, noivados, casamentos e outras ocasiões especiais. os chineses acreditam que o leão afasta o mal e atrai fortuna, e é um ícone em várias comunidades chinesas ao redor do mundo. 

Na enorme China, pessoas de uma mesma nacionalidade falam em dialetos diferentes, dependendo da região onde vivem; do mesmo modo o Leão Dançarino tem diferentes estilos de dança. 

De modo resumido, podemos identificar dois estilos principais: o nortista e o sulista. O estilo nortista apresenta movimentos baseado principalmente nas artes marcias chinesas. 

O estilo sulista usa mais acrobacias em sua dança. Este modelo de papel foi feito baseado no Leão Dançarino sulista, e sua cor principal é o vermelho, que os chineses acreditam atrair boa sorte.

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. Today I am opening a new session here on the blog, the Ephemeral Museum , which is a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

Eu "estou no papelmodelismo" desde 2005, embora eu já tivesse contato com modelos de papel desde minha infância, nos anos 1970, via revistas que eram vendidas esporadicamente em bancas de jornal. Lembro que haviam revistas com casas para montar e dioramas/playsets de aeroportos, fortes-apache, presépios e coisas do tipo. Com o advento da internet o que houve foi simplesmente um renascimento do hobby do papelmodelismo para mim e muitas outras pessoas de minha geração. Hoje eu estou inaugurando uma nova sessão aqui no blog, o Ephemeral Museum, que é um lugar aonde irei mostrar alguns dos modelos que eu construí em todos estes anos. Também gostaria que esse fosse um espaço aonde todos os amigos modelistas pudessem mostrar seus trabalhos, sendo assim, se alguém quiser participar deste "museu", basta mandar fotos de seu trabalho e algumas palavras para o e-mail abaixo:

Offered by Paper Model Studio, Japanese website, here is a paper model version of the Anomalocaris ("abnormal shrimp"), an extinct genus of anomalocaridid, a family of animals thought to be closely related to ancestral arthropods. The first fossils of Anomalocaris were discovered in the Ogygopsis Shale by Joseph Frederick Whiteaves, with more examples found by Charles Doolittle Walcott in the Burgess Shale. Originally several fossilized parts discovered separately (the mouth, feeding appendages and tail) were thought to be three separate creatures, a misapprehension corrected by Harry B. Whittington and Derek Briggs in a 1985 journal article. This monstrous shrimp could measure 60 cm to two meters long!

Oferecido pelo site Paper Model Studio, do Japão, eis aqui uma versão em papel do Anomalocaris (“camarão estranho”), um gênero extinto da família Anomalocaridae, que, por sua vez, possuía uma estreita relação com os artrópodes. Os primeiros fósseis de Anomalocaris foram encontrados no Folhelho Ogygopsis por Joseph Frederik Whiteaves; mais exemplares foram encontrados por Charles Doolittle Walcott no Folhelho Burgess.
