The Ephemeral Museum - VU-22 Percheron Dropship Papercraftby Christopher Roe - Assembled by Warbard

This is the second post of the Ephemeral Museum in 2026 and in it I have the honor of presenting the VU-22 Percheron, a light shuttle/dropship that looks like it came straight out of a classic science fiction universe. 

With its utilitarian lines and robust appearance, this craft conveys that sense of a functional vehicle designed to transport troops or cargo in hostile environments, yet with an elegant look that appeals to any fan of sci-fi and paper modeling. 

The model shown in the photos was built by the modeler behind the Warbard blog, who shared images of the construction process and the finished result on his website. The build is very well executed, with clean edges, well-aligned surfaces, and careful finishing that really highlights the design of the ship. 

It is always inspiring to see how a digital model gains its own personality once it passes through the hands of a skilled modeler. 

The VU-22 Percheron was created by Christopher Roe and made available for free on his website, Genet Models, as part of the Ebbles Miniatures series. 

Christopher maintains a generous collection of free models on his site, many of them featuring alternative color schemes and variations, allowing each modeler to choose the version that best suits their taste. It is a generous and well-crafted body of work that has enriched the papercraft community for years. 

This kind of indirect collaboration is one of the most beautiful aspects of our hobby. On one side, the designer who creates and shares the model. On the other, the modeler who prints, cuts, folds, and assembles it, transforming flat sheets into a three-dimensional piece full of presence. 

The result perfectly reflects the spirit of the Ephemeral Museum, a space created to celebrate these small works made of paper, patience, and dedication, which, even though ephemeral, leave a lasting impression on those who build them and those who appreciate them.

Este é o segundo post do Ephemeral Museum em 2026 e nele eu tenho a honra de apresentar o VU-22 Percheron, um light shuttle/dropship que parece ter saído direto de um universo clássico de ficção científica. 

Com suas linhas utilitárias e aspecto robusto, esta nave transmite aquela sensação de veículo funcional, projetado para transporte de tropas ou carga em ambientes hostis, mas com um visual elegante o suficiente para agradar qualquer fã de sci-fi e modelismo em papel. 

O modelo que vemos nas fotos foi montado pelo modelista responsável pelo blog Warbard, que compartilhou imagens da construção e do resultado final em seu site. A montagem ficou muito bem executada, com superfícies alinhadas, quinas limpas e um acabamento cuidadoso que valoriza bastante o design da nave. 

É sempre inspirador ver como um modelo digital ganha personalidade própria quando passa pelas mãos de um modelista experiente. 

O VU-22 Percheron foi criado por Christopher Roe e disponibilizado gratuitamente em seu site Genet Models, dentro da série Ebbles Miniatures. 

Christopher mantém em seu site uma coleção generosa de modelos gratuitos, muitos deles com variações de cores e esquemas alternativos, permitindo que cada modelista escolha a versão que mais combina com seu gosto. É um trabalho generoso e muito bem elaborado, que há anos vem enriquecendo a comunidade de papercraft. 

Este tipo de colaboração indireta é uma das coisas mais bonitas do nosso hobby. De um lado, o criador que projeta e compartilha o modelo. Do outro, o modelista que imprime, corta, dobra e monta, transformando folhas planas em uma peça tridimensional cheia de presença. 

O resultado é exatamente o espírito do Ephemeral Museum, um espaço para celebrar essas pequenas obras feitas de papel, paciência e dedicação, que mesmo sendo efêmeras, deixam uma marca duradoura em quem as constrói e em quem as aprecia.

About the Ephemeral Museum: 

I have been involved with papermodeling since 2005, although I had already been in contact with paper models since my childhood, back in the 1970s, through magazines that were occasionally sold at newsstands. 

I remember there were magazines with houses to build and dioramas or playsets of airports, Apache forts, nativity scenes, and things like that. 

With the advent of the internet, what happened was simply a rebirth of the papermodeling hobby for me and for many other people of my generation. 

This section, the Ephemeral Museum, is a place where I intend to show some of the models I have built over all these years. 

I would also like this to be a space where fellow modelers can share their own work.

Sobre o Ephemeral Museum: 

Eu estou no papelmodelismo desde 2005, embora já tivesse contato com modelos de papel desde a infância, lá nos anos 1970, por meio de revistas que eram vendidas esporadicamente em bancas de jornal. 

Lembro que existiam revistas com casas para montar e dioramas ou playsets de aeroportos, fortes Apache, presépios e coisas do tipo. 

Com o advento da internet, o que houve foi simplesmente um renascimento do hobby do papelmodelismo para mim e para muitas outras pessoas da minha geração. 

Esta seção, o Ephemeral Museum, é um espaço onde pretendo mostrar alguns dos modelos que construí ao longo de todos esses anos. 

Também gostaria que este fosse um lugar onde amigos modelistas pudessem mostrar seus próprios trabalhos.

Hand-Drawn Papercraft Models of Cultural Heritage - by Suita City

On the official website of the city of Suita, in Osaka, there is a special page dedicated to papercrafts that represent local cultural heritage. 

The project’s idea is to offer free paper models that reproduce temples, old houses, traditional objects, and historical buildings from the region, allowing anyone to learn about and assemble these replicas at home. 

Among the available models are the Kumano Shrine, the Kashiwara Residence, the Ishiyama Stone Arch, and even small historical objects, such as safes and everyday Japanese utensils. 

I have already featured several of these papercrafts here on the blog and, as you can see in the first and second photos of this post, I have also built some of them, including the miniature temple that I published here on the blog back in June 2022. 

An interesting detail is that the models are available in different scales. For the architectural constructions, for example, the Kumano Shrine comes in 1/90 scale, the Kashiwara Residence in 1/120, and the Ishiyama Stone Arch in 1/160, giving variety both to those who enjoy building larger models and to those who prefer more compact pieces. 

The papercrafts appear to have been hand-drawn, with great care and attention to detail, which gives these works a very special charm. 

The templates credit Yasuhide Nishimoto as the creator of the models, developed as part of a series produced by the Suita City Museum in 2011. 

I am revisiting this site today because it has changed its address, but the papercrafts are still available at the new link I share at the end of this post.

No site oficial da cidade de Suita, em Osaka, existe uma página dedicada a papercrafts que representam patrimônios culturais locais. 

A proposta do projeto é disponibilizar gratuitamente modelos em papel que reproduzem templos, casas antigas, objetos tradicionais e construções históricas da região, permitindo que qualquer pessoa conheça e monte essas réplicas em casa. 

Entre os modelos disponíveis estão o Santuário Kumano, a Residência Kashiwara, o Arco de Pedra Ishiyama e até pequenos objetos históricos, como cofres e utensílios do cotidiano japonês. 

Já publiquei vários desses papercrafts aqui no blog e, como pode ser visto nas duas primeiras fotos desta postagem, também montei alguns deles, incluindo o templo em miniatura que aparece na imagem e que publiquei aqui no blog em junho de 2022. 

Um detalhe interessante é que os modelos estão disponíveis em várias escalas. No caso das construções arquitetônicas, por exemplo, o Santuário Kumano está em escala 1/90, a Residência Kashiwara em 1/120 e o Arco de Pedra Ishiyama em 1/160, o que garante variedade tanto para quem gosta de montar modelos maiores quanto para quem prefere peças mais compactas. 

Os papercrafts parecem ter sido desenhados à mão, com muito cuidado e atenção aos detalhes, o que dá um charme especial a esses trabalhos. 

Nos templates consta o crédito a Yasuhide Nishimoto, responsável pela criação dos modelos, dentro de uma série produzida pelo Museu Municipal de Suita em 2011.

Easy-To-Build Galeon Papercraft For Wargames And Dioramas by RPGtoons

The Quest Pack 16: Ships brings a beautiful papercraft of a galleon, created by Niels and Rose, from RPGtoons.

Ancient Egyptian Temple Entrance Papercraft - by Papermau Download Now!

I began creating this paper model of an ancient Egyptian temple in 2014 and published a blog post that year, presenting some images and explaining that it is not a historical replica. 

I didn't worry about measurements or technical details, as the main idea was to use it in dioramas, school projects, RPGs, and wargames. 

The model depicts the facade of an Egyptian temple, with guardian sphinxes and obelisks, loosely inspired by the entrance to the Temple of Karnak in Luxor, Egypt. 

It shows the facade of a temple, with its detailed stone structure, including ten aligned sphinxes and two obelisks, on a base that mimics arid terrain.

In 2016, I used the model created in SketchUp for virtual reality experiments, and the result, quite interesting, can be seen in a video below. 

Today, after eleven years, I've finished the project and have even started assembly, as shown in one of the images in this post. 

The complete model takes up five sheets, including the base (there are two base options), and I recommend using 160-gram paper for better finish and durability. 

The sphinxes, which adorn the entrance, were drawn in layers (slices), and I suggest gluing them to 2 mm cardstock after printing. 

The cut pieces are then assembled in layers to create volume. Although the process is somewhat laborious and repetitive, especially with ten sphinxes, the final visual effect is worth the effort.

Eu comecei a criar este modelo de papel de um antigo templo egípcio em 2014 e publiquei um post no blog naquele ano, apresentando algumas imagens e explicando que não se trata de uma réplica histórica. 

Não me preocupei com medidas ou detalhes técnicos, pois a ideia principal era utilizá-lo em dioramas, trabalhos escolares, RPGs e wargames. 

O modelo retrata a fachada de um templo egípcio, com esfinges guardiãs e obeliscos, livremente inspirado na entrada do Templo de Karnak, em Luxor, Egito. 

Ele mostra a fachada de um templo, com sua estrutura detalhada em pedra, incluindo dez esfinges alinhadas e dois obeliscos, sobre uma base que imita um terreno árido. 

Em 2016, utilizei o modelo criado no SketchUp para experimentos com realidade virtual, e o resultado, bastante interessante, pode ser visto em um vídeo mais abaixo. 

Hoje, após onze anos, finalizei o projeto e até já comecei a montagem, como mostrado em uma das imagens deste post. 

O modelo completo ocupa cinco folhas, incluindo a base (há duas opções de base), e recomendo o uso de papel de 160 gramas para melhor acabamento e resistência. 

As esfinges, que adornam a entrada, foram desenhadas em camadas (fatias), e sugiro colá-las em papel cartão de 2 mm após a impressão. 

As peças cortadas são então montadas em camadas para dar volume. Embora o processo seja um pouco trabalhoso e repetitivo, especialmente com dez esfinges, o efeito visual final vale o esforço.

Old Lindau Post Office Paper Model in 1/160 Scale by Ausschneide Bogen

Created by the talented German designer and model maker Dieter Welz, from the Ausschneide Bogen website, this beautiful paper model of the old Lindau post office consists of 204 parts spread over 22 sheets and is available in N scale (1/160). 

Mr. Welz recommends printing the templates on 160g/m² cardstock for the N scale version and 200g/m² for the HO scale version, ensuring greater stability and a cleaner finish during assembly. 

The real building was constructed between 1902 and 1903 on the island of Lindau, Germany, on the charming Maximilianstraße, just a short walk from the harbor and train station. 

Today, it houses an art center, the municipal library, and the city archives. The structure has three floors, a gabled roof, and an "L"-shaped layout. 

The main facade features a decorative pediment with Gothic and Renaissance influences, along with several refined architectural details, especially the pierced ornamental gables, which present an extra challenge for those who enjoy precise knife work. 

The model can be assembled at different levels of difficulty, ranging from a simpler version to a more advanced build with internal LED lighting. 

It’s an excellent addition to N scale dioramas, particularly for model railroading enthusiasts. With the addition of tracks, greenery, and a few miniature figures, it’s possible to recreate a charming scene of a quiet station from the past.

Criado pelo talentoso designer e modelista alemão Dieter Welz, do site Ausschneide Bogen, este belíssimo modelo em papel do antigo prédio dos correios de Lindau é composto por 204 peças, distribuídas em 22 folhas, e está na escala N (1/160). 

O Sr. Welz recomenda imprimir os templates em papel com gramatura 160g/m² para a escala N e 200g/m² para a versão em HO, garantindo assim mais firmeza e um acabamento superior na montagem. 

O edifício real foi construído entre 1902 e 1903 na ilha de Lindau, na Alemanha, na charmosa Maximilianstraße, bem próximo ao porto e à estação ferroviária. 

Hoje, abriga um centro de arte, a biblioteca municipal e o arquivo histórico da cidade. O prédio tem três andares, telhado em duas águas e planta em "L". 

A fachada principal se destaca com um frontão decorativo em estilo gótico e renascentista, além de outros detalhes arquitetônicos refinados, como os frontões vazados, que representam um desafio extra para quem gosta de cortes precisos com estilete.

O modelo pode ser montado em diferentes níveis de dificuldade, desde uma versão mais simples até uma versão avançada com iluminação interna em LED. 

É uma excelente adição para dioramas na escala N, especialmente para entusiastas do ferromodelismo. Com a inclusão de trilhos, vegetação e algumas miniaturas humanas, é possível recriar uma cena encantadora de uma pacata estação do passado.
