Former Niigata Customs House Paper Model - by UHU02

Created by Japanese designer UHU02, this is the paper model of the Niigata Customs building. Built in 1869, this is the only surviving customs in the city of Niigata, of all 5 ports currently in operation. It is considered an important Japanese historical heritage. The city of Niigata has a history of prosperity, known for the largest port in the Sea of Japan, important for shipping and receiving in the Pacific. Later, under the 1859 Ansei Treaty between Japan, USA, Russia, the Netherlands, Great Britain and France, Niigata became one of the five Japanese ports open to foreign trade (along with Yokohama, Hakodate, Kobe and Nagasaki).
