by Marabout Junior

This old paper model of a Republic F-84G Thunderjet fighter plane was originally published in the 1950s by the French publisher Marabout in the 44th edition of the Marabout Junior magazine for children and teenagers.

On the template, you can read the name of the author, Hermany, and knowing that the first volume of Marabout Junior was published in 1954, I would venture to say that this model was published between 1956 and 1957.

Initially, the volumes of the Marabout Junior collection included a "paper contraption for cutting and assembling," and each volume featured an educational supplement titled "Marabout Researcher." A total of 352 titles were published for the first series from 1954 to 1971.

The Republic F-84G Thunderjet was a variant of the F-84 Thunderjet jet fighter aircraft manufactured by Republic Aviation Corporation in the United States.

It was primarily used during the Korean War. The Republic F-84 Thunderjet was first manufactured in 1947.

During the Korean War, the F-84G played a significant role in ground attack missions against enemy targets. It also provided escort for bombers on their destructive missions.

The aircraft was known for its ruggedness and reliability in combat conditions. The Republic F-84G Thunderjet played a significant role in military aviation history, providing crucial air support during the Korean War and demonstrating important technological advancements at that time.

Three interesting facts about the Republic F-84G Thunderjet:

Speed Record: The F-84 Thunderjet set a world speed record in 1946 when American pilot Paul W. Tibbets Jr. flew the aircraft at an average speed of 1,080 km/h (671 mph) in a closed circuit of 3 km (1.86 miles) during a competition.

Controversial Ejector Seat Design: The F-84 Thunderjet was one of the first jet planes to incorporate an ejection seat. However, the initial design of the ejection seat was considered unsafe and resulted in several fatalities. It was only in later versions that the design was improved and became more reliable.

Role in Soviet Jet Fighter Development: During the Cold War, the Soviet Union managed to obtain some F-84 Thunderjet aircraft through espionage. Soviet engineers carefully studied the Thunderjet's design and performance characteristics, which directly influenced the development of their own jet fighters, such as the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15.
