The Real Thing

This very well done paper model of the USS Independence Combat Ship in 1/300 scale, was created by the czech designers Rawen and MT, from PR Models website.
USS Independence is the lead ship of the Independence-class littoral combat ship. She is the sixth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the concept of independence. The design was produced by the General Dynamics consortium for the Navy's LCS program, and competes with the Lockheed Martin-designed Freedom variant. Independence, delivered to the Navy at the end of 2009, is a modular high speed corvette intended for operation in the littoral zone with a small crew. It is optimized for deploying and tending off-board systems, manned and unmanned; and takes on various capability profiles with the installation of a mission package, missions to include finding and destroying mines, hunting submarines in and near shallow water, and engaging in surface combat against boats, but not against warships. The ship is a trimaran design with a wide beam above the waterline, which provides the space needed for it to have a larger flight deck than is found on any of the much larger destroyers and cruisers in the US Navy, as well as a large hangar and a similarly large mission bay below. The trimaran hull configuration also exhibits low hydrodynamic drag, allowing efficient operation on two diesel powered water jets at speeds up to 18 knots (33 km/h; 21 mph), and high speed operation on two gas turbine powered water jets at speeds up to a sustainable 44 knots (81 km/h; 51 mph), with speed crests exceeding that. - Wikipedia

USS Independence é o principal navio da classe Independence de navios de combate litorâneos. Este é o sexto navio da Marinha dos Estados Unidos a ser nomeado com o conceito de independência. O projeto foi elaborado pelo consórcio General Dynamics para o programa LCS da Marinha, e concorre com a classe Freedom, concebida pela Lockheed Martin. This is the next project I will try to make. For now, only the model in sketchup is ready. Now I will break down the parts and see if I can organize everything. Like all real models I try to recreate it all starts with a good photo, in this case the same as that illustrates this post, below.

The Real Thing

This library is one of the most beautiful structures in Ephesus. It was built in 117 A.D. It was a monumental tomb for Gaius Julius Celsus Polemaeanus, the governor of the province of Asia; from his son Galius Julius Aquila. The grave of Celsus was beneath the ground floor, across the entrance and there was a statue of Athena over it. Because Athena was the goddess of the wisdom. The scrolls of the manuscripts were kept in cupboards in niches on the walls. There were double walls behind the bookcases to prevent the them from the extremes of temperature and humidity. The capacity of the library was more than 12,000 scrolls. It was the third richest library in ancient times after the Alexandra and Pergamum.



The facade of the library has two-stories, with Corinthian style columns on the ground floor and three entrances to the building. There is three windows openings in the upper story. They used an optical trick that the columns at the sides of the facade are shorter than those at the center, giving the illusion of the building being greater in size. The statues in the niches of the columns today are the copies of the originals. The statues symbolize wisdom (Sophia), knowledge (Episteme), intelligence (Ennoia) and valor (Arete). These are the virtues of Celsus. The library was restored with the aid of the Austrian Archaeological Institute and the originals of the statues were taken to Ephesus Museum in Vienna in 1910. A Biblioteca de Celso era um edifício antigo em Éfeso, na Anatólia (agora parte de Selçuk, Turquia. Foi construída em homenagem ao antigo senador romano Tibério Júlio Celso Polemeno, e suas obras foram concluídas em 135 d.C. pelo filho de Celso, Caio Júlio Áquila, cônsul em 110 d.C. Celso havia sido cônsul em 92 d.C., governador da província romana da Ásia em 115, e era um cidadão local rico e popular. Ele era um nativo de Sárdis vilarejo nas próximidades e entre os primeiros homens de origem puramente grega que se tornou consul do Império Romano e é homenageado tanto como um grego quanto um romano na própria biblioteca. Não era comum que pessoas fossem enterradas dentro de uma biblioteca ou até mesmo dentro dos limites de uma cidade, de modo que esta foi uma homenagem especial a Celso. The Sketchup Model

O edifício é importante como um dos poucos exemplos remanescentes de uma biblioteca de antiga influência romana. Ela também mostra que as bibliotecas públicas foram construídas não só na própria Roma, mas em todo o Império Romano. O interior da biblioteca e todos os seus livros foram destruídos por um incêndio no devastador terremoto que atingiu a cidade em 262. Apenas a fachada sobreviveu. Cerca de 400 AD, a biblioteca foi transformada em um Nymphaeum. A fachada foi completamente destruída por um terremoto mais tarde, provavelmente no final do período bizantino. Em uma restauração maciça que é considerada ser muito fiel ao histórico edifício, a fachada frontal foi reconstruída na década de 1960 e 1970 e agora serve como um excelente exemplo de arquitectura pública romana. A Biblioteca de Celso pode servir de modelo para outras, bem menos conservadas, bibliotecas em outras partes do Império, pois é possível que as coleções literárias foram alojadas em outras cidades romanas para o benefício dos estudantes, bem como viajantes romanos. Mantodea (or mantises, mantes) is an order of insects that contains over 2,400 valid species and about 430 genera in 15 families worldwide in temperate and tropical habitats. Most of the species are in the family Mantidae. The English common name for any species in the order is "praying mantis", because of the typical "prayer-like" posture with folded fore-limbs, although the eggcorn "preying mantis" is sometimes used in reference to their predatory habits. In Europe the name "praying mantis" refers to only a single species, Mantis religiosa. The closest relatives of mantises are the termites and cockroaches (order Blattodea). They are sometimes confused with phasmids (stick/leaf insects) and other elongated insects such as grasshoppers and crickets. - Wikipedia

O louva-a-deus ou cavalinho-de-deus é um inseto da ordem Mantodea. Há cerca de 2400 espécies de louva-a-deus, a maioria das quais em ambiente tropical e subtropical. Seu nome popular decorre do fato de que, quando está pousado, o inseto lembra uma pessoa orando. Os louva-a-deus são insetos relativamente grandes, de cabeça triangular, tórax estreito com pronoto e abdómen bem desenvolvido. São predadores agressivos que caçam principalmente moscas e afídios. A caça é feita em geral de emboscada, facilitada pelas capacidades de camuflagem do louva-a-deus. Como não possuem veneno, os louva-a-deus contam com as suas pernas anteriores que são raptatórias, ou seja, modificadas como garras, para segurar a presa enquanto é consumida. A sua voracidade leva a que sejam considerados muito bem vindos pelos amantes da jardinagem e agricultura biológica, uma vez que, na ausência de pesticidas, são um fator importante no controlo de pragas de jardim. Na América do Norte ocorrem apenas três espécies de louva-a-deus, duas das quais introduzidas no início do século XX para este mesmo efeito. O voo do louva-a-deus é algo impressionante. Remete ao voo de um caça de combate. Ele também tem a capacidade de desviar de ataques de morcegos em pleno voo executando mergulhos. The Real Thing - Camo Version

Tiger I is the common name of a German heavy tank developed in 1942 and used in World War II. The final official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen Tiger Ausf, often shortened to Tiger. It was an answer to the unexpectedly formidable Soviet armour encountered in the initial months of Operation Barbarossa, particularly the T-34 and the KV-1. The Tiger I design gave the Wehrmacht its first tank mounting the 88 mm gun, which had previously demonstrated its effectiveness against both air and ground targets. During the course of the war, the Tiger I saw combat on all German battlefronts. It was usually deployed in independent tank battalions, which proved to be quite formidable. The tank was given its nickname Tiger listen by Ferdinand Porsche, and the Roman numeral was added after the later Tiger II entered production. The initial official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung H (‘Panzer VI version H’, abbreviated PzKpfw VI Ausf. H), but the tank was redesignated as PzKpfw VI Ausf. E in March 1943. It also had the ordnance inventory designation SdKfz 181. Today, only a handful of Tigers survive in museums and exhibitions worldwide. Perhaps the most notable specimen is the Bovington Tank Museum's Tiger 131, currently the only one restored to running order. - Wikipedia


O PZKPFW VI, conhecido como Tiger e sua variação o Tiger II ou Tigre Real, foi o fruto do projeto entre os concorrentes Porsche and Henschel, encomendado pelo governo alemão,devido à necessidade de um blindado que fosse um rival à altura do T-34, que era muito superior aos Panzer III e IV. O modelo de Henschel foi o escolhido depois de uma série de competições e acabou sendo encomendado pelo governo alemão. A especificação exigia que o tanque tivesse capacidade para passagem de rios com profundidade até 4 metros e por isso os primeiros 495 veículos tinham essa capacidade, a qual deixou de ser incluida para aumentar o ritmo de produção. Suas principais vantagens estavam na potencia do canhão de 88 milímetros, capaz de destruir qualquer carro de combate da época, e na sua blindagem, a qual suportava impactos de diversos tipos de canhões de alto calibre, porém suas desvantagens apareceram em sua baixa velocidade e curto alcance, sua caixa de cambio apresentava problemas com frequência, imobilizando o tanque, diversos TIGER foram destruidos pela própria tripulação, quando imobilizados por problemas mecânicos, mesmo com essas dificuldades, o único tanque capaz de impor-se ao TIGER foi o T34 soviético, o qual provocou grandes duelos entre tanques, como na batalha de KURSK, onde grande quantidade de tanques T34 e TIGER degladiaram-se. - Wikipedia

Julius Perdana, the indonesian designer of this unusual paper model, says: - "This camera template is quite simple, it only has 2 pages. I color it mainly white, so it will be like ink-saver. If you think infrared camera is too much, there are 2 options to choose, infrared camera and ordinary lens. This CCTV is move-able, so you can adjust the camera angle up and down or rotate it to the left and right."
