Halloween Special - Papercraft Skull #1: Half-Life - by Tektonten
More one nice model from Tektonten:
For my Halloween papercraft project this year I decided to do a series of video game skulls. The first one up is a skull from the Half-Life 1 video game. This skull can be seen at various places in the game as you proceed from one level to another. I tried to size the skull to be 1:1 scale, but as I am no anatomy expert, the size is at best an approximation. - Tektonten

Apple I and Apple II PCs - by Julius Perdana - Paper-Replika
I took the liberty of putting the text of Julius Perdana in this post, since the model in question was made by him. Despite being a personal statement, expresses very well who was Steve Jobs and the importance of his legacy, without cheap sentimentality. Thanks, Julius, for the models and the words. - Mauther
The first thing I read this morning on the net was a friend post, "Mr. Steve Jobs has passed away on Wednesday". I read many times about this former Apple CEO illness before and his recent withdrawal from Apple. He inspired many people including me, I'm not going to begin telling you about his biography, because it already mentioned in every sites today, the world has lost again an optimistic and a visionary man. I was in the middle on designing a commercial commissioned project then I stop for a while because I had the idea to make Mr. Jobs first work, an Apple I computer that produced on 1976 and Apple II produced on 1977, wow! I even didn't able to walk yet on that year :p. Both models have no scale, I quick modeled them by looking at photos. - Julius Perdana

Himeji Castle, in Japan - by Kids Net - Castelo Himeji, no Japão
The Real Thing |
Himeji Castle dates to 1333, when Akamatsu Norimura built a fort on top of Himeyama hill. The fort was dismantled and rebuilt as Himeyama Castle in 1346, and then remodeled into Himeji Castle two centuries later. Himeji Castle was then significantly remodeled in 1581 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who added a three-story castle keep. In 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu awarded the castle to Ikeda Terumasa for his help in the Battle of Sekigahara, and Ikeda completely rebuilt the castle from 1601 to 1609, expanding it into a large castle complex. Several buildings were later added to the castle complex by Honda Tadamasa from 1617 to 1618. For over 400 years, Himeji Castle has remained intact, even throughout the extensive bombing of Himeji in World War II, and natural disasters such as the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake.
Himeji Castle is the largest and most visited castle in Japan, and it was registered in 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the country. The area within the middle moat of the castle complex is a designated Special Historic Site and five structures of the castle are also designated National Treasures. Along with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle, Himeji Castle is considered one of Japan's three premier castles. In order to preserve the castle buildings, it is currently undergoing restoration work that is expected to continue for several years. - Wikipedia
The Main Tower, Inspiration For This Paper Model |
A 1761 Depiction Of The Castle Complex |

Toba Batak House - by Julius Perdana - Paper-Replika
The Toba Batak traditionally believe that they originate from one ancestor "Si Raja Batak", with all Margas, descended from him. A family tree that defines the father-son relationship among Batak people is called tarombo. In contemporary Indonesia Batak people have a strong focus on education and a prominent position within the professions, particularly as teachers, engineers, doctors and lawyers. Toba Batak are known traditionally for their weaving, wood carving and especially ornate stone tombs. - Julius Perdana
The Toba Batak houses are known for their harmonious shapes and be constructed without using nails or screws and yet everything fits perfectly.
The Real Thing |

The Lone Ranger Frontier Town - by Thrilling Days.Com
In 1948, I listened with great anticipation to The Lone Ranger radio program as the announcer, Fred Foy, said, "In celebration of the 15th year of this program you can get your very own model of the Lone Ranger Frontier Town. With this offer you can follow the adventures of The Lone Ranger and Tonto."
The next day I flew on my bike to the First National grocery store. Standing in the cereal aisle I searched for the Cheerios boxes. There they were! I turned a box over and there were the frontier buildings just waiting to be cut out and assembled. It was box numbered 3 of 9 different box backs. I checked out other boxes and all 9 were there. What luck! Another bike trip home to convince my mother that it was imperative to get all 9 boxes immediately. She agrees! Back again to the store to purchase all 9 boxes of Cheerios ($.12 abox!). Rushing home, I quickly emptied all the boxes into a large bowl. I ended up eating Cheerios for weeks, but it was worth it!
Four more sections, each with a map and additional buildings (71 pieces in all), had to be sent for separately with a dime and a Cheerios box top. Luckily I now had plenty of those. When assembled the four base maps covered nearly 15 square feet of floor space. For weeks afterward the Lone Ranger radio show featured stories located in the Frontier Town and I could see right where it was all taking place - a truly spectacular radio premium! - Richard, aka Kemo Sabe
- Richard, aka Kemo Sabe
