Rock`n`Roll Circus - The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Tatebanko - by Papermau - Next Project

I am creating this tatebanko (a kind of 2D diorama) inspired bySgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, the eighth studio album by English rock band The Beatles. Released on 1 June 1967, it was an immediate commercial and critical success, spending 27 weeks at the top of the albums chart in the United Kingdom and 15 weeks at number one in the United States. Time magazine declared it "a historic departure in the progress of music" and the New Statesman praised its elevation of pop to the level of fine art. It won four Grammy Awards in 1968, including Album of the Year, the first rock LP to receive this honour. More soon.

Eu estou criando este tatebanko (uma espécie de diorama em 2D) inspirado no Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, o oitavo álbum de estúdio da banda britânica de rock The Beatles. Lançado em 1º de junho de 1967, tornou-se imediatamente enorme sucesso comercial e crítico, permanecendo durante 27 semanas no topo das paradas do Reino Unido e 15 semanas na primeira posição nos Estados Unidos. A revista Time o considerou "uma evolução histórica no progresso da música" e a New Statesman elogiou a sua elevação da música pop ao nível de arte. In this Japanese site there are a lot of dioramas fairly easy to assemble and very cute.

I chose to assemble this little Candy Shop and also made ​​a box to put it, then the model has become what in Japan is called Tatebanko, which is a diorama in a box.

Paper Model History - Japanese Print Of Family Making A Paper Model by John Wagenseil

Thanks to John Wagenseil, from Paper Modelers Forum, for this really cool find! John says: - "Japanese 19th c. print of a family putting together a Tatebanko. The print shows mother and two children looking at print, with partially cut out sheet, ruler and scissors near by. Unfortunately there is no hint about what kind of glue they are using. The print is somewhat suggestive as it shows the woman's naked foot." - Added by Mauther: - "Probably they used glue made of crushed rice, water and salt. The salt had the function to ward off insects. Barefoot, whether deliberate in the picture, probably has to do with the fetish of Japanese men by female feet, which still has its adherents today in Japan."

John diz: - "Gravura japonesa do século 19 mostrando uma família montando um Tatebanko. a gravura mostra uma mãe e seus dois filhos olhando uma impressão, com algumas partes já recortadas, com régua e tesoura próximos. Infelizmente não há pistas de que tipo de cola eles usavam. A gravura é sugestiva, pois mostra a mulher com os pés descalços." - Por Mauther: - "Provavelmente eles usavam cola feita de arroz amassado, água e sal. O sal tinha a função de afastar os insetos. Os pés descalços, se propositais na gravura, provavelmente tem a haver com o fetiche dos homens japoneses por pés femininos, que ainda tem seus adeptos no Japão dos dias de hoje."

This really beautiful paper model diorama in a box, or Tatebanko, called At Whale Hunting - 1850, is from Polish publisher ABC Magazine. It was neatly assembled by designers Přemysl Kubela and Rudolf Baudis. I don`t have this model, but I will try to purchase this.

Este belíssimo modelo de papel em uma caixa, ou Tatebanko, chamado Caça à Baleia - 1850, é da editora polonesa ABC Magazine. Ele foi caprichosamente montado pelos modelistas Přemysl Kubela e Rudolf Baudis. Eu não tenho esse modelo, mas vou tentar adquirí-lo.

Patrick Pasques says: - This tatebanko created in 1882 by Utagawa Yoshufuji (1828-1887), representing a portable shrine of a Shinto deity of the pantheon that was used during the summer festivals. It is interesting because it is more like a real model, as a diorama.

John Wagenseil, from Paper Modelers Forum, found this very rare, nice and ancient model of a vintage Tatebanko, that shows what appears to be the struggle of people of one village against evil spirits. 

To further improve, Pat Craft, a great French designer, posted a picture of the finished model, which he built himself.
