Le Magazin De Tissus - Fabric Store Paper Model In 1/43 Scale
by Jean-Pierre Larouze

In the past, there were no "ready-made clothes" to buy. There were underwear (underwear, panties and bras), men's shirts and ready-made dresses, but the vast majority of clothes (suits and dresses) were made in tailors, seamstresses or made at home. Most houses had a sewing machine and these machines were bestsellers on holidays, such as Mother's Day and Christmas. After the Second World War, with women now working outside and with less time and enthusiasm to stay at home, "prêt-à-porter" emerged, created by the French stylist JC Weil at the end of 1949. The expression prêt- à-porter means "ready to wear". But before that, just like most houses had a sewing machine, every city, no matter how small, had its own fabric store. This 1/43 scale paper model created by the French designer Jean-Pierre Larouze represents well how these small commercial houses were, selling fabrics, needles, threads, buttons, manuals with measures for creating men's and women's clothing and which, in addition to of all this, they served as a meeting point for local women.

A expressão prêt-à-porter significa "pronto a vestir".

The Ephemeral Museum - Brown & Sons General Store Diorama
A Forty Years Old Paper Model - by Philippe Régniez

My friend Philippe Régniez from Paraguay kindly sent me some photos of a vintage model that was built by him 40 years ago. With pleasure I show this model here at the blog and below you can read the nice message he wrote to me.

Dear Papermau,
First of all, congratulations for your excellent site. Here are five photos for your Ephemeral Museum. The model is at least 40 years old, it was purchased in the UK. I moved house a few times, and the model was badly damaged, I had to reshape and reconstruct it, putting a wooden frame inside. My two daughters, aged 7 and 11, spend hours playing with it (and with the other paper models I have).

All the best,

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. Today I am opening a new session here on the blog, the Ephemeral Museum , which is a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

mautherous@gmail.com

All who submit their work will be published, without exceptions.
