Le Viex Mollin - The Old Mill - A French Vintage Paper Model by Luc Leoucy - via Agence Eureka

This beautiful paper model of an old mill was created by a French artist called Luc Leoucy for a publication called Pettit Echo de la Mode. 

At the bottom of the page we can read that this magazine/newspaper had its headquarters at numbers 5 and 7 of Rue Lemaignan, in Paris. 

In the parentheses we see the Roman numerals "XIV", which leads me to believe that this ancient paper model was published in 1914 (over a hundred years ago!) by a printer/publisher called P. Orsoni. 

I want to leave here my thanks to the Agence Eureka website for the hard work of preserving these small and fragile treasures, which would otherwise be lost in time. 

If anyone ventures to assemble this model and wants to send some photos here to the blog (you can send to mautherous@gmail.com), it would be a pleasure to publish them in the section "The Ephemeral Museum", with due credit, of course.

Este belo modelo de papel de um moinho antigo foi criado por um artista francês chamado Luc Leoucy para uma publicação chamada Pettit Echo de la Mode. 

Na parte de baixo da folha podemos ler que essa revista/jornal tinha sua sede nos números 5 e 7 da Rua Lemaignan, em Paris. 

Nos parênteses vemos os algarismos romanos "XIV", o que me leva a crer que este antigo modelo de papel foi publicado em 1914 (há mais de cem anos atrás) por uma gráfica/editora chamada P. Orsoni. 

Quero deixar aqui meus agradecimentos ao site da Agence Eureka pelo árduo trabalho de preservação destes pequenos e frágeis tesouros, que de outra forma se perderiam no tempo.

The Beginning Of Everything - A Small Fire Truck Designed In MsPaint by Papermau

Yesterday I was rummaging through old boxes here at home and I found many old CDs with several of the first paper models that I created, starting in 2008, I believe. I also found several paper models that I built over the years that I thought were already in the trash. In the coming days (and weeks, since I found a lot!) I will post some of these models here on the blog and I will also make some "Ephemeral Museum" with the models that I built, some that I created and also several created by others designers from around the world. 

Today I leave with you this model that I created in August 2008 (and I only remember the date because it is written on the model itself), a simple firetruck, all designed in MsPaint. This was not the first, but it was "one of the first" models that I created. I remember that I was very happy when, after drafting and printing, I put the pieces together and saw that they really fit together. 

I photographed the various stages of the assembly process and will also post them here on the blog, to assist those who want to assemble the model. There are forty photos, so I will divide them into four posts. 

First I will do the four posts with the assembly process and finally, in the fifth post I will put the template for download, ok?

I hope that those who are willing to assemble this model, will have as much fun as I did when I created it and assembled mine here at home, in the distant year of 2010. Have fun!

Ontém eu estava vasculhando em antigas caixas aqui em casa e encontrei muitos Cds antigos com vários dos primeiros modelos de papel que eu criei, a partir de 2008, creio eu. Também achei vários modelos de papel que eu construí ao longo dos anos que eu julgava já haviam ido para o lixo. Nos próximos dias (e semanas, já que achei muita coisa mesmo!) eu irei postar aqui no blog alguns desses modelos e também vou fazer alguns "Ephemeral Museum" com os modelo que eu construí, alguns que eu criei e também vários criados por outros designers de todo o mundo. 

Hoje deixo com vocês este modelo que eu criei em Agosto de 2008 (e eu só lembro da data porque está escrita no próprio modelo), um simples caminhão de bombeiros, toda desenhada no MsPaint. Este não foi o primeiro, mas foi "um dos primeiros" modelos que eu criei. Eu lembro qie eu fiquei muito contente quando, depois de desenhado e impresso, eu fui colocando as peças juntas e vi que elas realmente se encaixavam. 

Eu fotografei as várias etapas do processo de montagem e também as postarei aqui no blog, para auxiliar aqueles que quiserem montar o modelo. São quarenta fotos, então eu irei dividí-las em quatro postagens. 

Primeiro farei os quatro posts com o processo de montagem e por último, na quinta postagem colocarei o modelo para download, ok?

Eu espero que aqueles que se dispuserem a montar este modelo, se divirtam tanto quanto eu quando o criei e montei o meu aqui em casa, no distante ano de 2010. Boa diversão!

My friend Philippe Régniez from Paraguay kindly sent me some photos of a vintage model that was built by him 40 years ago. With pleasure I show this model here at the blog and below you can read the nice message he wrote to me.

Dear Papermau,
First of all, congratulations for your excellent site. Here are five photos for your Ephemeral Museum. The model is at least 40 years old, it was purchased in the UK. I moved house a few times, and the model was badly damaged, I had to reshape and reconstruct it, putting a wooden frame inside. My two daughters, aged 7 and 11, spend hours playing with it (and with the other paper models I have).

Antes de mais nada, parabéns pelo seu excelente site. Aqui vão cinco fotografias para o seu Ephemeral Museum. O modelo tem mais de 40 anos e foi comprado no Reino Unido. Eu mudei de casa algumas vezes, e ele sofreu uma série de acidentes, então eu tive que reformá-lo e reconstruí-lo, reforçando-o com uma moldura de madeira no interior. Minhas duas filhas, com idades entre 7 e 11 anos, passam horas brincando com ele (e com os outros modelos de papel que eu tenho).

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. Today I am opening a new session here on the blog, the Ephemeral Museum , which is a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

Eu "estou no papelmodelismo" desde 2005, embora eu já tivesse contato com modelos de papel desde minha infância, nos anos 1970, via revistas que eram vendidas esporadicamente em bancas de jornal. Lembro que haviam revistas com casas para montar e dioramas/playsets de aeroportos, fortes-apache, presépios e coisas do tipo. Com o advento da internet o que houve foi simplesmente um renascimento do hobby do papelmodelismo para mim e muitas outras pessoas de minha geração. Hoje eu estou inaugurando uma nova sessão aqui no blog, o Ephemeral Museum, que é um lugar aonde irei mostrar alguns dos modelos que eu construí em todos estes anos. Também gostaria que esse fosse um espaço aonde todos os amigos modelistas pudessem mostrar seus trabalhos, sendo assim, se alguém quiser participar deste "museu", basta mandar fotos de seu trabalho e algumas palavras para o e-mail abaixo:

This paper model was originally posted here on the blog in 2011, right at the beginning of Papermau. Today reviewing broken links, I noticed that the original page where this model was published, no longer exists. As I had these templates saved on my HD, I decided to host them on Google Drive and share them again. 

This playset of a Zoo was originally printed in Germany in 1860 (161 years ago !!!). This type of cut-out toy was very popular in Europe in the late 19th century. 

I am always amazed at how delicate and ephemeral things made of paper can get through today. Hands that are no longer hands created this and other small hands that are no longer hands played with it.

Este modelo de papel foi postado aqui no blog originalmente em 2011, logo no início do Papermau. Hoje revisando links quebrados, notei que a página original aonde este modelo era publicado, não existe mais. Como eu tinha estes templates salvos em meu HD, resolvi hospedá-los no Google Drive e compartilhá-los novamente. 

Este playset de um Jardim Zoológico foi originalmente impresso na Alemanha em 1860 (161 anos atrás!!!). Esse tipo de brinquedo recortável era muito popular na Europa no final do século XIX.

Eu sempre fico impressionado como coisas tão delicadas e efêmeras feitas de papel podem chegar até os dias de hoje. Mãos que não são mais mãos criaram isso e outras pequenas mão que não são mais mãos brincaram com isso.

Circus Konrado - A Vintage Paper Model - by ABC Magazine

The cut-out of Circus Konrado is from the FGSS publishing house. The full name of the publisher is unknown. Apparently these are the initials of the publisher's name and the place it comes from. It was a German publisher operating in Eastern Bohemia in the Sudetenland in the 1930s and 1940s. So far, only sheets with architecture models are known from this publishing house. The sheets were often supplemented with the name of the model in German and Czech, or English and French. The price of such a small cut-out was 20-30 pennies. A kilo of potatoes then cost 50 pennies. 

This model is part of a series. ABC online magazine will share a total of 15 vintage models available in a series called "Cut-Out Museum". In the presentation of this series it is said that "The free download of a cut-out is a reliable recipe to banish boredom".

O recortável do Circo Konrado é da Editora FGSS. O nome completo do editor é desconhecido. Aparentemente, essas são as iniciais do nome da editora e de onde vem. Era uma editora alemã que operava na Boêmia Oriental, nos Sudetos, nas décadas de 1930 e 1940. Até agora, apenas são conhecidas folhas com modelos de arquitetura desta editora. As folhas eram frequentemente complementadas com o nome do modelo em alemão e tcheco ou inglês e francês. O preço de um recortável tão pequeno era de 20-30 centavos. Um quilo de batatas custava então 50 centavos. 

Este modelo faz parte de uma série. A revista online ABC irá disponibilizar um total 15 modelos antigos numa série que ela batizou como "Cut-Out Museum", ou "Museu dos Recortáveis". Na apresentação desta série é dito que "O download gratuíto de um recortável é uma receita imbatível para banir o tédio".

AGK Publications is a German publishing company that, in addition to publishing and selling paper models, also preserves the tradition and history of this peculiar hobby. Today I highlight this Knight's Castle, a beautiful model originally published in 1900 (over one hundred years ago!), which has been preserved and is now made available to all, thanks to the generosity of this renowned German company. And this is just one of the beautiful and rare models available on the site, as you can see on the images that illustrate this post.

AGK Publications é uma editora alemã, que, além de publicar e vender modelos de papel, também preserva a tradição e a história deste peculiar hobby. Hoje destaco este Castelo do Cavaleiro, um belo modelo originalmente publicado no ano de 1900 (mais de cem anos atrás!), que foi preservado e hoje é colocado à disposição para todos, graças à generosidade desta conceituada empresa alemã. I do not know the precise date on which this beautiful Paper Theatre was originally printed, but I know that it comes from France and was printed by Pellerin company. Preserved and shared by Geheugenvan Nederland (Memory of Netherlands) website, now you can build your own to decorate your shelf. The model you see in the picture above was assembled by modeler Tarot Girl. In addition to the original, I put a link to a high resolution version and you can download it easily directly from my Google Drive.

Eu não sei a data precisa em que este belo Teatro de Papel foi originalmente impresso, mas sei que ele vem da França e foi publicado pela companhia Pellerin. "Three-dimensional paper soldiers:The publishing house Berthold Fuchs, hardly known in literature today, had its headquarters in Munich at Hohenzollernstrasse 112. Information about the production time of the Fuchs Verlag is no longer available. The publisher produced excellent modeling sheets for making three-dimensional figures in different sizes and price ranges. The products ranged from simple black and white contour sheets on thin paper to multi-colored sheets on thick cardboard. All qualities were offered in three sizes: the small sheet was 31 x 24 cm, the middle sheet was 47 x 31 cm and the large sheet was 63 x 46 cm. The color printed cardboard sheets were available in the price ranges of 10, 20 and 40 pfennigs. Due to the Zeitgeist (spirit of the age), Fuchsverlag also published several soldiers' sheets at the beginning of the First World War. A brochure with the introductory words “The imagination of our youth is currently mostly concerned with the great struggle of nations. Their main interest is our armies and commanders, the various theaters of war on land and sea and above all, what is related to the war. As a special feature, the Fuchs papercrafts were characterized by many moving parts that were not glued and could be fitted and removed from the figures." - AGK

"Soldados de papel tridimensionais: a editora Berthold Fuchs, pouco conhecida na literatura hoje, tinha sua sede em Munique, na Hohenzollernstrasse 112. Informações sobre o tempo de produção da Fuchs Verlag não estão mais disponíveis. O editor produziu excelentes folhas de modelagem para fazer figuras tridimensionais em diferentes tamanhos e faixas de preço. Os produtos variavam de simples folhas de contorno em preto e branco em papel fino a folhas multicoloridas em papelão grosso.
