This is the Diorama of Pompeii, a paper model originally posted here on the blog in 2013. I remember at that time I was reading a lot about this Roman city (to help with school work for my daughter Maiú) that was buried by the ashes of the volcano Vesuvius. It remained hidden for 1600 years, until it was rediscovered by chance in 1748.
Ash and mud protected the buildings and objects from the effects of time, also shaping the bodies of the victims, which made them to be found in the exact way they were hit by the eruption.
Since then, excavations have provided an extraordinary archaeological site, which provides a detailed insight into the life of a city from ancient Roman times.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Herculaneum and Torre Annunziata, Pompeii is one of Italy's most popular tourist attractions, with approximately 2.500.000 visitors a year.
The entire model takes up just three sheets of paper and is easy and secure to download directly from Google Drive. I believe this diorama will be useful for wargames and schoolwork. Have fun!
Este é o Diorama de Pompéia, um modelo de papel originalmente postado aqui no blog em 2013. Eu lembro que nessa época eu estava lendo muito a respeito dessa cidade romana (para ajudar em um trabalho escolar para minha filha Maiú) que foi sepultada pelas cinzas do vulcão Vesúvio. Ela se manteve oculta por 1600 anos, até ser reencontrada por acaso em 1748.
Cinzas e lama protegeram as construções e objetos dos efeitos do tempo, moldando também os corpos das vítimas, o que fez com que fossem encontradas do modo exato como foram atingidas pela erupção.
Desde então, as escavações proporcionaram um sítio arqueológico extraordinário, que possibilita uma visão detalhada na vida de uma cidade dos tempos da Roma Antiga.
Classificada como Patrimônio Mundial pela UNESCO, juntamente com Herculano e Torre Annunziata, Pompeia é uma das atrações turísticas mais populares da Itália, com aproximadamente 2.500.000 visitantes por ano.
