Japanese Aircraft Carrier Akagi - by Paper Model Studio

The Paper Thing

"Let's make a papercraft of 1/350 scale "Akagi" Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier First Aviation Squadron. The total length of completion of this big-scale model is approximately 75cm". - Paper Model Studio

Akagi conducting flight operations in April 1942
Akagi (Japanese: 赤城 "Red Castle") was an aircraft carrier of the Imperial Japanese Navy, named after Mount Akagi in present-day Gunma Prefecture. Though she was laid down as an Amagi-class battlecruiser, Akagi was converted to an aircraft carrier while still under construction to comply with the terms of the Washington Naval Treaty. Following Japan's renunciation of the treaty in late 1934, the ship was rebuilt from 1935 to 1938 with her original three flight decks consolidated into a single, enlarged flight deck and an island superstructure. The second Japanese aircraft carrier to enter service, and the first large or "fleet" carrier, Akagi figured prominently in the development of the IJN's revolutionary carrier striking force doctrine that grouped carriers together, concentrating their air power. This doctrine enabled Japan to attain its strategic goals during the first six months of the Pacific War. Akagi's aircraft participated in the Second Sino-Japanese War in the late 1930s. Upon the formation of the First Air Fleet or Kido Butai (Striking Force) in early 1941, she became its flagship, and remained so for the duration of her service. With other fleet carriers, she took part in the Pearl Harbor raid in December 1941 and the invasion of Rabaul in the Southwest Pacific in January 1942. The following month her aircraft bombed Darwin, Australia and assisted in the conquest of the Dutch East Indies. In March and April 1941, Akagi's aircraft helped sink a British heavy cruiser and an Australian destroyer in the Indian Ocean raid. After a brief refit, Akagi and three other fleet carriers of the Kido Butai participated in the Battle of Midway in June 1942. After bombarding American forces on the atoll, Akagi and the other carriers were attacked by aircraft from Midway and the carriers Enterprise, Hornet, and Yorktown. Dive bombers from Enterprise severely damaged Akagi. When it became obvious she could not be saved, she was scuttled by Japanese destroyers to prevent her from falling into enemy hands. The loss of Akagi and three other IJN carriers at Midway was a crucial strategic defeat for Japan and contributed significantly to the Allies' ultimate victory in the Pacific. - Wikipedia

Akagi - The Real Thing - 1941

Japanese Medium Tank Type 97 Chi-Ha Paper Model In 1/72 Scale
by Lazy Life

The Real Thing
By Japanese designer Lazy Life, here is the Japanese Medium Tank Type 97 Chi-Ha paper model In 1/72 scale. The Type 97 Chi-Ha was a medium tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War, on the Battles of Khalkhin Gol against the Soviet Union, and the Second World War. It was the most widely produced Japanese medium tank of World War II, although the armor protection was considered as average in the 1930s. The 57 mm main gun, designed for infantry support, was a carry over from the 1933 Type 89 medium tank. Later it was replaced by a 47 mm gun that was more effective against armor. The 170 hp Mitsubishi engine was a capable engine for the tank in 1938, and – notably for the time – it was an air cooled diesel. After 1941, the tank was less effective than most Allied tank designs. - read more at Type.97.Chi.Ha.at.Wikipedia

A Captured Type 97 Chi-Ha

Two Exclusive Paper Models Of Japanese Steam Locomotives
by Hiroshi Chiba & Paperart-C

These two paper models of old Steam Locomotives are only available in the Japanese language version of Canon website. If you usually enter the site in English (or Portuguese in my case), or any language other than Japanese you will not find these models and many others that only appear in the Japanese version. So I urge you all to periodically visit the site by choosing the Japanese language and scouring the various topics. There are many paper models that, for cultural reasons, I believe, Canon only published in their mother tongue.

WW2`s Imperial Japanese Navy Destroyer Yukikaze Paper Model
by Paper Model Studio

Offered by Paper Model Studio website, here is the second version (a detailed one) of the Imperial Japanese Navy Destroyer Yukikaze in 1/350 scale. Yukikaze (Snowy Wind) was a Kagero-class destroyer in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. She was the only member of her class to survive the war. The attrition rate of Japanese destroyers was extremely high due to heavy, prolonged combat and the need to use them to transport supplies to scattered Japanese island garrisons. You have the option of building it with the entire hull or with a waterline hull version.

Created by Japanese designer Lazy Life, this is the paper model in 1/72 scale of the WW2`s Japanese Medium Tank Chi-Nu Type 3. The Chi-Nu was a medium tank of Imperial Japanese Army in World War II. It was an improved version of the Type 97 Chi-Ha line by giving it a Type 3 75 mm Tank Gun, one of the largest guns used on Japanese tanks during the war. The Chi-Nu did not see combat during the war. They were retained for defence of the Japanese Home Islands in case of an Allied invasion.
