The Roman Siege of Jerusalem saw the onslaught of 70,000 soldiers in 70 A.D. to contain a Jewish rebellion against the authority of Rome.
The walls of Jerusalem were fabulous architectural works and their tearing down was almost impossible. Within the walls, thousands of rebellious Jews repelled the increasingly fierce attacks of the Romans.
These, seeing that known strategies had no effect, made use of their engineers and sages to create and improve existing weapons and war artifacts, making use of all that was most modern at the time, such as catapults, mobile towers of assault and incursions from several sides at the same time, finally managing to break through the famous series of three walls that protected the city of Jerusalem.
As a form of punishment for the resistance, and also to serve as a warning to other peoples who tried to rebel, the Romans, upon entering Jerusalem, carried out one of the greatest massacres of ancient times, killing more than 100,000 Jews and enslaving all the survivors.
Not satisfied, they set fire to the Temple in Jerusalem, reducing it to ashes.

O Cerco Romano à Jerusalém oi a investida de 70 mil soldados, no ano 70 d.C., para conter uma rebelião dos judeus contra a autoridade de Roma.
As muralhas de Jerusalém eram obras arquitetônicas fabulosas e sua derrubada era quase impossível. Dentro das muralhas, milhares de judeus revoltosos repeliam os ataques cada vez mais ferozes dos romanos.
Estes, vendo que estratégias conhecidas não surtiam efeito, se valeram de seus engenheiros e sábios para a criação e melhoria de armas e artefatos de guerra já existentes, fazendo uso de tudo que havia de mais moderno na época, tais como catapultas, torres móveis de assalto e incursões por vários lados ao mesmo tempo, conseguindo enfim romper a famosa série de três muralhas que protegiam a cidade de Jerusalém.
Como uma forma de castigo pela resistência, e também para que servisse de aviso para outros povos que tentassem se rebelar, os romanos, ao adentrar Jerusalém, promoveram um dos maiores massacres do tempo antigo, matando mais de 100.000 judeus e escravizando todos os sobreviventes.
Não satisfeitos, atearam fogo ao Templo de Jerusalém, reduzindo-o a cinzas.
