This is a Japanese Tatebanko representing japanese students doing exercises in a schoolyard. This vintage Tatebanko, from 1873, is called "An Illustrated Essay On Children's Physical Exercises For Their Health". This model is preserved and shared by University Of Tsukuba Library, in Japan.

Tatebanko is the Japanese art of making dioramas out of paper. Typically the diorama is housed inside a paper box and portrays some kind of scene. It was very popular in the 17th century but fell to the wayside and was almost lost to time. Now, with internet and ease of storing and sharing all kinds of document, this kind of art/hobby had a revival, being shared in several websites.

Tatebanko é a arte japonesa de fazer dioramas de papel. tipicamente o diorama é colocado dentro de uma caixa de papel, exibindo assim, alguma cena típica. O Tatebanko foi muito popular no século XXVII, mas com o passar do tempo, sua arte foi sendo esquecida. Agora, com a internet e a facilidade de guardar e compartilhar qualquer tipo de documento ou mídia, esta espécie de arte/passatempo ganhou novo fôlego, sendo encontrada em vários sites.
