My friend Kerguelen, from Netherlands, sent me his geometrical paper model of a Compound Cube, that beyond its mathematical properties and its usefulness in the classroom, it is also a beautiful decorative object. As I am not very good with directions, I will transcribe in the next lines the words that Mr. Kerguelen sent me and I believe that will be very useful for all who are interested in building this beautiful model. This paper model was created by Bamboo Math.

- "As you can see from the pieces it is very straightforward. You print the model sheet 4 times, each time in a different color, for each of the four cubes. Each sheet has only 8 pieces, corresponding to the 8 corners of that particular cube. (As is well known, cubes have 8 corners.) Two of those pieces have an identical piramidal shape. The 6 others are identical, but differ from the first two. If you look at the pictures, it is quite evident how to glue the pieces together, while maintaining the correct color scheme. In my own model I printed the pieces at such a size that each cube has a side of about 15,5 cm, giving the whole 'sphere' a diameter of about 22,5 cm. That's a bit smaller than a soccer ball. The last parts, when the model is 'closing', are a bit hard, as you can imagine. Therefore I advise to make the model not too small. I hang it from the ceiling from a very thin nylon wire that is attached inside the model. It looks quite attractive when it slowly turns and the intertwined cubes show themselves."

Meu amigo Kerguelen, da Holanda, enviou-me seu modelo de papel geométrico de um cubo Composto, que além de suas propriedades matemáticas e sua utilidade em sala de aula, é também um belo objeto decorativo. Como eu não sou muito bom com instruções, vou transcrever nas próximas linhas as palavras que o Sr. Kerguelen me enviou, e acredito que serão muito úteis para todos os que s e interessarem ​​em montar este belo modelo. Este modelo foi criado por Bamboo Math.

- "Como você pode pelas peças, é tudo muito simples. Você deve imprimir o template 4 vezes, cada vez em uma cor diferente, para cada um dos quatro cubos. Cada folha tem apenas 8 peças, correspondendo aos 8 cantos de um cubo. (Como todos sabemos, os cubos têm 8 cantos.) Duas dessas peças têm uma forma piramidal idêntica. Os outros 6 são idênticos, mas diferem dos dois primeiros. Se você olhar para as imagens, é bastante evidente como colar os pedaços juntos, mantendo o esquema de cores correto. Em meu próprio modelo, eu mprimi as peças em um tamanho tal que cada cubo tem um lado de cerca de 15,5 cms, dando a "esfera" um diâmetro total de cerca de 22,5 cms. Isso é um pouco menor do que uma bola de futebol. As últimas partes, quando o modelo é "fechado", são um pouco difíceis, como você pode imaginar, por isso eu aconselho a não tentar montar o modelo em um tamanho muito pequeno. Eu pendurei-o ao teto de um fio de nylon bem fino que foi fixado no interior do modelo. Ele chama muita atenção quando gira lentamente e os cubos dão a ilusão de se entrelaçarem."

Saruman - The Samurai Monkey Paper Toy - by PapermauDownload Now!

This is Saruman, the Samurai Monkey. It is said that as a child, Saruman is lost in the forest and was raized by a bunch of monkeys. 

As a teenager he was captured by hunters who sold him to a powerful feudal lord. The feudal lord commanded that his generals train Saruman in the arts of war and the strategy. 

As an adult, Saruman realized that his benefactor was a bad and greedy man and then left of his land, aimlessly. 

In his travels, he helped many people and defeated many criminals, using as weapons the sagacity of a general and the agility of a monkey, which is why his name became increasingly known in Japan. 

The years passed and his adventures were becoming more epic and fanciful as they passed from generation to generation. Today it is unknown whether Saruman existed or not, but it's a good story, it can not be denied. 

This paper model occupies only two sheets of paper and when printed in A4 format and assembled, it measures 13 cms tall. Have fun!

Este é Saruman, o Samurai Macaco. Conta-se que quando era criança, Saruman perdeu-se na floresta e foi criado por um bando de macacos.

Já adolescente foi capturado por caçadores que o venderam para um poderoso senhor feudal. O senhor feudal mandou que treinassem Saruman nas artes da guerra e da estratégia.

Já adulto, Saruman percebeu que seu benfeitor era um homem mau e ganancioso e então partiu de suas terras, sem destino. 

Em suas andanças, ajudou muitas pessoas e derrotou muitos malfeitores, usando como armas a sagacidade de um general e a agilidade de um macaco, razão pela qual seu nome foi ficando cada vez mais conhecido no Japão. 

Os anos se passaram e suas aventuras foram tornando-se mais épicas e fantasiosas, conforme iam passando de geração para geração. Hoje não se sabe se Saruman existiu ou não, mas que é uma boa história, isso não se pode negar.  

Este modelo de papel ocupa apenas duas folhas de papel e quando impresso no formato A4 e montado, ele mede 13 cms de altura. Boa diversão!

Today I was fidgeting with some old boxes and found these paper models of houses, already posted here on the blog. I decided to make a post joining all of them because they are all in approximate scale of 1/64, would then be a nice diorama for Hot Wheels and Matchbox miniatures. Have fun!

About Toys In The Attic by Papermau:

Toys in the Attic is the third album by American rock band Aerosmith, released in April 1975. Is also a name of a 1963`s drama movie with Dean Martin and Geraldine Page. Now, because this is a really nice name, this will be the name of a new session of Papermau`s blog. In this session I will share old original and exclusive paper models posted more than a year here in the blog. It's a way of not letting these models get lost among over 7.000 posts in the four years of the blog.


Toys in the Attic (Brinquedos no Sotão) é o nome do terceiro album da banda norte-americana de rock Aerosmith, lançado em 1975. É também o nome de um drama para o cinema de 1963 chamado aqui no Brasil de Na Voragem das Paixões, que contava no elenco com Dean Martin (o parceiro do Rat Pack e de Jerry Lewis) e Geraldine Page. Agora, porque eu acho esse um título muito legal, Toys in the Attic será o nome de uma nova sessão do blog Papermau. Nesta sessão eu publicarei antigos modelos de papel originais e exclusivos postados há um ano ou mais. Esta é a maneira que encontrei para que estes modelos não fiquem perdidos e esquecidos entre mais de 7.000 postagens feitas em quatro anos de existência do blog.
