Artistic Interpretation of a Pteranodon

Pteranodon, from Greek πτεραν ("wing") and οδων ("toothless") is a genus of pterosaurs which included some of the largest known flying reptiles, with wingspans over 6 metres (20 ft). It existed during the late Cretaceous geological period of North America in present day Kansas, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, and South Dakota. More fossil specimens of Pteranodon have been found than any other pterosaur, with about 1,200 specimens known to science, many of them well preserved with nearly complete skulls and articulated skeletons. It was an important part of the animal community in the Western Interior Seaway. Pteranodon was a reptile, but not a dinosaur. By definition, all dinosaurs belong to the groups Saurischia and Ornithischia, which exclude pterosaurs. Nevertheless, Pteranodon is frequently featured in dinosaur books and is strongly associated with dinosaurs by the general public. - Wikipedia

Pteranodon Skeleton

O pteranodonte (Pteranodon sp. Lat: asa sem dente) foi um réptil pré-histórico voador da ordem Pterosauria, que viveu no fim do Cretáceo, na atual América do Norte. Foi um dos maiores pterossauros que existiram, com cerca de 7,5 m de envergadura. A descoberta de peixes fossilizados no estômago de um pterodonte mostra que eram piscívoros e provavelmente habitantes dos oceanos. O tamanho das suas asas sugere que o pterodonte, em vez de bater as asas frequentemente, voasse por deslizamento aproveitando as plumas térmicas, como os albatrozes atuais. Uma das características mais marcantes dos pterodontes é a crista que tinham na cabeça. As funções desta estrutura são desconhecidas, mas foram sugeridas duas hipóteses: para uso tipo lastro ou em rituais de acasalamento. O Pteranodon mergulhava ao mar para apanhar peixes, como algumas aves marinhas fazem. Alguns deles deviam mergulhar e serem pegos por algum Elasmosaurus, Mosasaurus ou Plesiosaurus. As diferentes espécies do género Pteranodon distinguem-se pela forma e tamanho da crista. O Pteranodon era um réptil, mas não um dinossauro. Por definição, todos os dinossauros pertencem ao grupo Saurischia e Ornithischia, que excluem os pterossauros. The Comics Version.

A cool paper model version of Spawn, create by North American designer Webdude and originally posted at pepakura Gallery website. According Wikipedia, Spawn is a fictional character, a comic book superhero who appears in a monthly comic book of the same name published by Image Comics. Created by writer/artist Todd McFarlane, the character first appeared in Spawn #1 (May 1992). Spawn was ranked 60th on Wizard magazine's list of the Top 200 Comic Book Characters of All Time, 50th on Empire magazine's list of The 50 Greatest Comic Book Characters and 36th on IGN's 2011 Top 100 Comic Book Heroes. The series has spun off several other comics, including Angela, Curse of the Spawn, Sam & Twitch, and the Japanese manga Shadows of Spawn. Spawn was adapted into a 1997 feature film, an HBO animated series lasting from 1997 until 1999, and a series of action figures whose high level of detail made McFarlane Toys known in the toy industry. The Movie Version.

Um modelo de papel bem bacana do Spawn, criado pelo designer norte-americano Webdude e originalmente postado no site Pepakura Gallery. Segundo a Wikipedia, Spawn é um personagem de quadrinhos criado por Todd McFarlane em 1992. Spawn era o agente da CIA Al Simmons, que após ser morto numa armadilha armada por seu chefe vai para o inferno. Lá, ganha poderes após negociar com o demônio Malebolgia para se tornar um "filho do inferno". Spawn depois revolta-se contra os demônios e passa a enfrentar as criaturas sobrenaturais e da Máfia. Além da série de HQ que tem o mesmo nome do personagem, Spawn estrela um filme, uma série de desenho animado e vários jogos de video-game. Spawn se tornou uma franquia comercial formidável, gerando uma série animada de grande sucesso no canal HBO, um filme live-action, cards, etc... Além disso, McFarlane também fundou a McFarlane Productions, que fabrica todos os produtos relacionados ao herói, especialmente bonecos e esculturas, reconhecidos por seus grandes detalhamentos. Spawn contou também com participações de roteiristas famosos como Frank Miller (Sin City, 300 de Esparta), Alan Moore (V de Vingança, Watchmen), e Neil Gaiman (Sandman, Morte).
