Garage Diorama Paper Model - by Scale Model`s Stephan Schmatz

I am pleased to present the work of a new modeling friend here on the blog: Stephan Schmatz. Stephan's models are specially made to be used as photo dioramas. I asked him to write some lines about him and his work and he kindly sent me the text below. 

"My name is Stephan and I am from Austria (Europe). Of course I had modelcars when I was a child. I started collecting with about 6 years, with 10 years I switched to H0 scale and with 25 years I discovered photography as my hobby. After the birth of my son, about 4 years ago, I didn't have much time for photography anymore. When I played with my son and his modelcars I discovered that it would be nice to combine these hobbies and started with photographing scale models. 

This was just 3 months ago. I am always trying to give my photos a special touch, so I began downloading and building paper dioramas and paper houses (mainly from Papermau). First I printed them as they were, then one day I started to change some things and now I am developing paper dioramas completely "from scratch". 

I use various photoshop patterns for walls and floors. For the doors and the windows I am taking photographs of real doors and windows, and in the end I am putting everything together in photoshop. I think that should be enough."

Eu tenho o prazer de apresentar o trabalho de um novo amigo modelista aqui no blog: Stephan Schmatz. Os modelos de Stephan são feitos especialmente para serem usados como dioramas para fotos. Eu pedi que ele escrevesse algumas linhas sobre ele e seu trabalho e Stephan gentilmente enviou-me o texto abaixo.

"Meu nome é Stephan e eu sou da Áustria (Europa). Claro que eu tinha modelos em escala quando eu era criança. Comecei a colecionar com cerca de 6 anos, com 10 anos mudei para a escala H0 e com 25 anos descobri a fotografia como meu hobby. Após o nascimento do meu filho, há cerca de 4 anos, já não tinha mais tempo para fotografia. Quando brincava com meu filho e seus modelos, descobri que seria legal combinar esses passatempos e comecei a fotografar os modelos. 

Isso foi há apenas 3 meses atrás.Eu sempre tento dar um toque especial às minhas fotos, então comecei a baixar e montar dioramas de papel e casas de papel (principalmente do Papermau). Primeiro eu os imprima como estavam, então um dia eu comecei a mudar algumas coisas e agora estou desenvolvendo dioramas de papel "a partir do zero".

Eu uso vários padrões de Photoshop para paredes e pisos. Para as portas e as janelas, estou tirando fotos de portas e janelas reais, e no final insiro tudo em Photoshop. Eu acho que já falei o bastante."

Created by Japanese designer Nobi, this is the paper model version of Youmu Konpaku, a half-human half-phantom who lives at Hakugyokurou in the Netherworld as a gardener and fencing instructor. She first appeared as the Stage 5 boss of Perfect Cherry Blossom, the seventh installment of the Touhou Project videogame, and has since become a recurring playable character. The Touhou Project, also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a series of Japanese shooter videogames developed by the single-person Team Shanghai Alice.

Criado pelo designer japonês Nobi, este é o modelo de papel da Youmu Konpak, uma meio-fantasma e meio-humana que vive em Hakugyokurou, no Netherworld, como uma jardineira e instrutora de esgrima. Ela apareceu pela primeira vez como chefe da Fase 5 de Perfect Cherry Blossom, a sétima edição do videogame Touhou Project, e desde então se tornou uma personagem jogável recorrente. Touhou Project, também conhecido como Toho Project e Project Shrine Maiden, é uma série de videogames estilo shooter feita por um único homem, conhecido como Team Shanghai Alice, que fez a maior parte dos gráficos, música e programação sozinho.

Reconstructed Spinosaurus Skeleton in Swimming Posture

Spinosaurus (meaning "spine lizard") is a genus of theropod dinosaur that lived in what now is North Africa, during the upper Albian to upper Turonian stages of the Cretaceous period, about 112 to 93.5 million years ago. This genus was known first from Egyptian remains discovered in 1912 and described by German paleontologist Ernst Stromer in 1915. The original remains were destroyed in World War II, but additional material has come to light in recent years. It is unclear whether one or two species are represented in the fossils reported in the scientific literature. The best known species is S. aegyptiacus from Egypt, although a potential second species, S. maroccanus, has been recovered from Morocco. Spinosaurus was among the largest of all known carnivorous dinosaurs, nearly as large or even larger than Tyrannosaurus, Giganotosaurus and Carcharodontosaurus. Artistic Interpretation of a Spinosaurus

O Espinossauro (Spinosaurus aegyptiacus cujo nome significa Lagarto Espinho) foi uma espécie de dinossauro carnívoro que andava como um quadrúpede e como um bípede, era retratado como um bípede antes por causa do filme Jurassic Park 3 de 2001, mas novas descobertas dizem que se locomovia mais em posição quadrúpede em terra firme. Ele viveu durante o período Cretáceo, principalmente na região que é hoje o norte da África. Foram também descobertos dentes e vértebras de espinossaurídeos no Brasil tais como o Oxalaia quilombensis e o Irritator challengeri, especialmente na região que atualmente corresponde ao estado do Ceará. O Espinossauro foi o maior dinossauro terópode que já existiu, com adultos medindo em torno de 6 metros de altura, no máximo e 15 metros de comprimento e pesando possivelmente até 7 toneladas. The Replica In   Deutsches Teknikmuseum in Berlin.

On the northern wall of Fide church on the island Gotland in the middle of the Baltic, there is an engraving done "al fresco" early in the 13th century when the wall was plastered. The engraving is interesting as it shows the perhaps oldest known picture of a ship with the rudder mounted on the stern-post (instead of laterally on the starboard quarter). Could it be that the stern rudder was invented on Gotland as being the most important merchant center in the Baltic before the Hanseatic League was founded?


Several attempts have been made to reconstruct what the pictured ship could have looked like in real life. One of the more ambitious attempts is exhibited in the Deutsches Teknikmuseum in Berlin. - Gunnar Sillén

Na parede norte da igreja de Fide, na ilha de Gotland, no meio do Báltico, há uma gravura feita "ao ar livre" no início do século 13, quando a parede foi rebocada. A gravura é interessante, pois mostra a imagem mais antiga conhecida de um navio com o leme montado na popa (em vez de lateralmente no quarto de estibordo). Poderia ser que este tipo de leme tenha sido inventado em Gotland, que era o centro comercial mais importante do Báltico antes da fundação da Liga Hanseática?
