The Cardboard Medieval Castle In 1/25 Scale Project - by Papermau Part 02

In May 2018 I started a cardboard castle project and posted some photos here on the blog. I hadn't made any progress since then. Now, with the epidemic and the forced quarantine, I started rummaging through old boxes for something to occupy myself. Then I found the castle, as I had left it two years ago. I decided to resume the project and today I leave here some pictures of the progress.

An original Playmobil Castle is very expensive, especially here in Brazil, with its extortion import fees, so I decided to create my own castle on Playmobil scale, that is, between 1/24 and 1/25. All is done using a metal ruler 30 cms long by 3 cms wide as a standard measure. The castle battlements measure 3 cms each (the width of the ruler), as well as the length of the wall, which is that same width times 5 cms, or 15 cms. And all the measurements are made so, always using the ruler as a reference, making the work much easier. Soon I will post more advances in this cardboard project.

Em Maio de 2018 eu comecei um projeto de um castelo de papelão e postei algumas fotos aqui no blog. Desde então eu não havia mais feito nenhum avanço nele. Agora, com a epidemia e a quarentena forçada, eu comecei a revirar velhas caixas atrás de algo para me ocupar. Encontrei então o castelo, como havia deixado há dois anos atrás. Resolvi retomar o projeto e hoje deixo aqui algumas fotos do progresso.

Um Castelo Playmobil original é muito caro, principalmente aqui no Brasil, com suas taxas de importação que beiram a extorsão, então eu resolvi criar meu próprio castelo na escala Playmobil, ou seja, entre 1/24 e 1/25. Tudo é feito usando como medida padrão uma régua de metal de 30 cms de comprimento por 3 cms de largura. As ameias do castelo medem 3 cms cada (a largura da régua), assim como o comprimento da parede, que é essa mesma largura vezes 5 cms, ou 15 cms. E todas as medidas são feitas assim, sempre usando a régua como referência, facilitando muito o trabalho. Em breve postarei mais avanços neste projeto de papelão.

Here is the Miniature Church paper model, a little architectural model, in only one sheet of paper. This is what I call "desktop model", because this is really little and fits nice as decoration in a desk or a shelf.

Eis aqui está o modelo de papel da Igreja em Miniatura, um modelo arquitetônico em miniatura que ocupa apenas uma folha de papel. Isto é o que eu chamo de "modelo de mesa, ou desktop model", porque é realmente pequeno e fica legal como decoração em cima de uma mesa de trabalho mesa ou em uma prateleira.

At the close of WWI, an estimated 50 million people died from the Spanish flu. Masks were the uninfected’s main line of defense.

Good night friends. Today, the fifty-seventh day of the quarantine and here in Brazil today we have 13,149 dead and 188,974 infected by the CHINESE VIRUS, better known as Coronavirus or Covid 19.

The country remains divided when the topic is quarantine: while some fervently defend radical isolation, including lockdown and use of force, others hit the key to vertical isolation, opening up street commerce with well-established rules of distance and security.

I believe that the right would be a middle ground, since the country will not be able to endure four months of total confinement. Unfortunately, we are not the United States, where the government can inject three trillion dollars to insure the economy and encourage its people. Brazil is a miserable country, full of inequality and misery can kill as much, if not more, than the damn Chinese virus.

Here in São Paulo, to force people to stay at home, our brilliant mayor, supported by our no less phenomenal governor, had the brilliant idea of ​​implementing a rotation of vehicles separated by odd and even numbers. Perfect, isn't it? But the side effect was that the buses, trains and subways were packed, with everyone crowding and pushing on the already overcrowded São Paulo public transport system. The result of this stupidity will be shown in fifteen or twenty days, when all those forced passengers who have been infected start to experience the first symptoms. It is the perfect excuse for our governor, João Doria, to institute the long-dreamed lockdown, with which he continues to threaten the people of São Paulo. We'll see...

Meanwhile, honest citizens are arrested or humiliated for wearing the wrong mask or walking on the street. Boa noite, amigos. Hoje, quinquagésimo sétimo dia da quarentena e aqui no Brasil hoje temos 13.149 mortos e 188.974 infectados pelo VÍRUS CHINÊS, mais conhecido como Coronavírus ou Covid 19.

O país continua dividido quando o tema é quarentena: enquanto uns defendem ardorosamente o isolamento radical, inclusive com lockdown e uso de força, outros batem na tecla do isolamento vertical, com abertura do comércio de rua com regras bem estabelecidas de distanciamento e segurança.

Eu creio que o certo seria um meio termo, já que o país não aguentará quatro meses de confinamento total. Infelizmente nós não somos os Estados Unidos, onde o governo pode injetar três trilhões de dólares para segurar a economia e dar alento a seu povo. O Brasil é um país miserável, cheio de desigualdade e a miséria pode matar tanto, ou mais, que o maldito vírus chinês.

Aqui em São Paulo, para forçar as pessoas a ficarem em casa, nosso genial prefeito, apoiado pelo nosso não menos fenomenal governador, teve a brilhante idéia de implementar um rodízio de veículos separados por números pares e ímpares. Perfeito, não? Só que o efeito colateral foi que os ônibus, trens e metrôs ficaram lotados, com todos aglomerando e se empurrando no já normalmente superlotado sistema de transporte público paulista. O resultado desta estupidez será mostrada daqui há quinze ou vinte dias, quando todos esses passageiros forçados que foram infectados começarem a sentir os primeiros sintomas. É a desculpa perfeita para nosso governador, João Doria, instituir o tão sonhado lockdown, com o qual ele não pára de ameaçar o povo de São Paulo. Veremos...

Mais uma da série "Somente no Brasil": No Estado de Rio Grande do Sul os criminosos soltos da cadeia por risco de covid-19 correspondem a 13,9% dos homicídios em abril. Enquanto isso, cidadãos honestos são presos ou humilhados por usarem a máscara errado ou andarem na rua. Repito aqui o que já disse várias vezes: cada passo para trás em nossas liberdades não será revertido sem luta. Governantes com tendências ditatoriais estão literalmente "deixando suas máscaras caírem".

Se cuidem, amigos, usem máscaras, lavem as mãos, mantenham a distância social, não saiam sem motivos, mas não deixem de viver. Se puderem, ajudem as pessoas necessitadas e os idosos de sua vizinhança e tão importante quanto, vigiem seus governantes!

Tutela Domus Ad Herculaneum Paper Model - by PapermauDownload Now!

This paper model of a small house or temple, the Tutela Domus Ad Herculaneum (Protective House of Herculaneum), was based on miniatures found in several houses in Herculaneum, the ancient Roman city in the Italian region of Campania, which was tragically known to have been preserved, along with the city of Pompeii, after Of having been buried by the ashes of the eruption of Vesuvius in the year 79 AD. Archaeologists who excavate the remains of Herculaneum to this day, have noticed that in several houses of the city there were these miniatures made of clay, usually a house or temple, with a central atrium, where were deposited figures, also made of clay, of men, women, children and sometimes even pets. They came to the conclusion that these houses were used as a kind of amulet to protect homes and their residents. It can be said that the amulets worked in a certain way, because the houses were magnificently preserved by the ashes of Vesuvius and the people too, since they became statues, eternalized in plaster molds.

Attention: taking away the fact that the cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii were actually swallowed up and preserved almost intact by the ashes of Vesuvius, the rest of what you read above was totally invented by me and has no scientific or archaeological support. Este modelo de papel de uma pequena casa ou templo, a Tutela Domus Ad Herculaneum (Casa Protetora de Herculano), foi baseada em miniaturas encontradas em várias habitações de Herculano, a antiga cidade romana na região italiana da Campânia, que ficou tragicamente conhecida por ter sido preservada, junto com a cidade de Pompeia, depois de ter sido soterrada pela cinzas da erupção do vulcão Vesúvio no ano 79 depois de Cristo. Arqueólogos que escavam até hoje as ruínas de Herculano, notaram que em várias casa da cidade haviam estas miniaturas feitas de barro, normalmente uma casa ou templo, com um átrio central, aonde eram depositadas figuras, também feitas de barro, de homens, mulheres, crianças e as vezes até animais de estimação. Os estudiosos chegaram a conclusão que estas casinhas eram usadas como uma espécie de amuleto, para proteger os lares e seus moradores. Eu penso que os amuletos funcionaram de certa forma, pois as casas foram magnificamente preservadas pelas cinzas do Vesúvio e as pessoas também, já que viraram estátuas, eternizadas em moldes de gesso.

Atenção: tirando o fato de que as cidades de Herculano e Pompéia realmente foram engolidas e conservadas quase intactas pelas cinzas do Vesúvio, o resto do que você leu acima foi totalmente inventado por mim e não tem nenhum respaldo científico ou arqueológico. Apenas um Primeiro de Abril fora de época. Bom divertimento. :)
