Green Hill Zone And Tornado - Two Official Sonic Papercraftsby SEGA

These two papercrafts are not exactly new to Papermau. In fact, both appeared here many years ago, when even their download addresses were probably different. Since they are still officially available at SEGA's Sonic Channel, I thought they deserved to be brought back to the blog.

They are two quite different models. The first recreates the unforgettable Green Hill Zone from the original Sonic the Hedgehog, released for the Mega Drive in 1991, while the second represents the Tornado, the airplane piloted by Tails in Sonic Adventure, originally released in Japan for the Dreamcast on December 23, 1998. The latter marked a huge change for the series, taking Sonic into an action adventure set in fully three-dimensional environments. SEGA itself presents it as the first completely 3D action game in the series.

The Green Hill papercraft is especially interesting because it is not simply a static model. It works as a kind of small paper playset inspired by the very first stage of the original Sonic the Hedgehog.

There are 10 sheets in total, including instructions, terrain and several elements that can be assembled and arranged however you like. There are the traditional palm trees, bridge, totems, signs, checkpoint, spring, item boxes, rings and small paper characters, including several poses of Sonic and some of his enemies.

SEGA itself makes it clear that the image shown in the file is only a suggested arrangement. This means you can change the positions of the trees, boxes and other objects to create your own version of Green Hill Zone. It is precisely this modular quality that makes the model especially interesting for anyone who enjoys small dioramas.

This papercraft also has an interesting history. It was published by Sonic Channel on June 23, 2006, as part of Sonic's 15th anniversary celebrations. Green Hill Zone, despite being only the first stage of the original game, eventually became one of the most recognizable settings in the entire franchise, especially because of its palm trees, tropical environment and distinctive checkerboard terrain.

Even the stage music has an interesting story. It was composed by Masato Nakamura, bassist and composer of the Japanese band Dreams Come True. In an interview published by SEGA, Nakamura said that Green Hill was the first piece of music he completed for the game and that he was working on Sonic's soundtrack at the same time he was recording an album with Dreams Come True.

The second papercraft is the Tornado from Sonic Adventure, the famous red biplane associated with Tails, reproduced here with its yellow wing stripes, cockpit, landing gear and propeller.

This one is considerably more challenging than the Green Hill scenery. The PDF has 6 sheets, combining step-by-step photographic instructions with the parts needed for assembly. The construction uses around twenty numbered main components, several of them formed by joining smaller pieces. As a small bonus, the file also includes Sonic and Tails figures to cut out and assemble.

SEGA itself classifies the model as relatively difficult due to its level of detail and estimates between five and six hours to complete the build. Although the demonstration model was built using ordinary paper, Sonic Channel recommends thicker paper to help prevent deformation.

Sonic Adventure also occupies a special place in the history of the franchise. In addition to the transition to 3D environments, the game featured six different character adventures and helped establish Sonic's more modern and stylized appearance. Expectations surrounding this new era were enormous and, according to SEGA's official retrospective, around 15,000 fans attended the game's presentation event.

So here we have two official papercrafts representing very different moments in Sonic's history: the Green Hill Zone from the 16-bit era and the Tornado from Sonic Adventure, connected to the series' great transition into the 3D world.

Even after all these years, both are still available for free at Sonic Channel, directly from SEGA, and I think that alone is a very good reason to rediscover them.

Como continuam disponíveis oficialmente no Sonic Channel, da SEGA, achei que valia a pena trazê-los novamente ao blog.

São dois modelos bastante diferentes entre si. O primeiro recria a inesquecível Green Hill Zone do Sonic the Hedgehog original, lançado para Mega Drive em 1991, enquanto o segundo representa o Tornado, o avião pilotado por Tails em Sonic Adventure, lançado originalmente no Japão para Dreamcast em 23 de dezembro de 1998. Este último marcou uma enorme mudança para a série, levando Sonic para uma aventura de ação em ambientes totalmente tridimensionais. A própria SEGA o apresenta como o primeiro jogo de ação completamente 3D da série.

O papercraft da Green Hill é especialmente interessante porque não se trata apenas de uma maquete estática. Ele funciona como uma espécie de pequeno playset de papel inspirado na primeira fase do primeiro Sonic the Hedgehog.

São 10 folhas no total, incluindo instruções, terreno e diversos elementos que podem ser montados e distribuídos da maneira que você quiser. Há as tradicionais palmeiras, ponte, totens, placas, checkpoint, mola de salto, caixas de itens, anéis e pequenos personagens de papel, incluindo várias poses de Sonic e alguns de seus inimigos.

A própria SEGA deixa claro que a imagem apresentada no arquivo é apenas uma sugestão de montagem. Assim, você pode mudar a posição das árvores, caixas e demais objetos e criar sua própria versão da Green Hill Zone. É justamente essa característica modular que torna o modelo especialmente interessante para quem gosta de pequenos dioramas.

Este papercraft também tem uma história interessante. Ele foi publicado pelo Sonic Channel em 23 de junho de 2006 como parte das comemorações dos 15 anos de Sonic. A Green Hill Zone, apesar de ter sido apenas a primeira fase do jogo original, acabou se tornando um dos cenários mais reconhecíveis de toda a franquia, principalmente por suas palmeiras, seu ambiente tropical e o característico terreno quadriculado.

Até a música da fase tem uma história curiosa. Ela foi composta por Masato Nakamura, baixista e compositor da banda japonesa Dreams Come True. Em uma entrevista publicada pela própria SEGA, Nakamura contou que Green Hill foi a primeira música que terminou para o jogo e que trabalhava na trilha de Sonic ao mesmo tempo em que gravava um álbum do Dreams Come True.

O segundo papercraft é o Tornado de Sonic Adventure, o famoso biplano vermelho associado a Tails, aqui reproduzido com suas faixas amarelas nas asas, cockpit, trem de pouso e hélice.

Este é consideravelmente mais trabalhoso que o cenário da Green Hill. O PDF possui 6 folhas, reunindo instruções fotográficas passo a passo e as peças necessárias para a montagem. A construção utiliza cerca de vinte componentes principais numerados, vários deles formados pela união de peças menores. Como um pequeno bônus, o arquivo ainda traz figuras de Sonic e Tails para recortar e montar.

A própria SEGA classifica o modelo como relativamente difícil devido ao nível de detalhes e estima entre cinco e seis horas para completar a montagem. Embora o modelo de demonstração tenha sido construído com papel comum, o Sonic Channel recomenda papel mais grosso para evitar deformações.

Sonic Adventure também ocupa um lugar especial na história da franquia. Além da passagem para os ambientes 3D, o jogo trouxe seis aventuras protagonizadas por personagens diferentes e ajudou a estabelecer o visual mais moderno e estilizado de Sonic. A expectativa em torno dessa nova fase era enorme e, segundo a retrospectiva oficial da SEGA, cerca de 15 mil fãs compareceram ao evento de apresentação do jogo.

Temos assim dois papercrafts oficiais que representam momentos muito diferentes da história de Sonic: a Green Hill Zone da era dos 16 bits e o Tornado de Sonic Adventure, ligado à grande transição da série para o universo 3D.

Mesmo depois de tantos anos, ambos continuam disponíveis gratuitamente no Sonic Channel, diretamente da SEGA, e acho que isso já é uma ótima razão para redescobri-los.

Shima-Enaga Bird And Komugi Dog Papercrafts - by MONOcraft

Here are two very cute papercrafts from Japan, created by MONOcraft. One is a tiny Japanese bird called Shima-enaga and the other is Komugi, the little dog from the Japanese animated series Wonderful Precure!

The first model is the Shima-enaga, a small bird found in Japan that is well known for its round body, white feathers and cute appearance. MONOcraft turned this little bird into a very nice papercraft with simple shapes and a slightly faceted look that works really well with paper.

The whole bird fits on just one sheet of paper. There are not many parts, but the finished model has a lot of personality and looks especially nice when displayed on a shelf, a desk or even among some small plants.

MONOcraft also made a video tutorial showing the complete assembly process. This is always useful, especially with small models like this, where the order in which the parts are glued can make things much easier.

The second model is Komugi, the little dog from Wonderful Precure!, a Japanese animated TV series produced by Toei Animation that started airing in Japan in February 2024. Komugi is a Papillon dog and one of the main characters of the story.

Komugi is a little more detailed than the bird. This papercraft takes two sheets and has separate parts for the big ears, legs, tail and the little pink bow. There are two versions of the first sheet, so you can build Komugi with her mouth open or closed. The second sheet is the same for both versions. The large eyes and happy expression give the finished model that very cute Japanese kawaii look.

There is also a complete video tutorial for Komugi, showing how the pieces come together. Since this model has more parts than the Shima-enaga, watching the video before starting the assembly is probably a good idea.

I could not find a personal name clearly connected to the creator of these papercrafts, so I think MONOcraft is the safest and most correct credit to use. The Shima-enaga takes only one sheet and Komugi takes two, with two different facial expressions to choose from. Both models also have video tutorials to help with the assembly.

There is also a complete video tutorial for Komugi, showing how the pieces come together. Since this model has more parts than the Shima-enaga, watching the video before starting the assembly is probably a good idea.

Aqui estão dois papercrafts muito simpáticos vindos do Japão, criados por MONOcraft. Um deles é um pequeno pássaro japonês chamado Shima-enaga e o outro é Komugi, a cachorrinha da série de animação japonesa Wonderful Precure!

O primeiro modelo é o Shima-enaga, um pequeno pássaro encontrado no Japão e conhecido pelo corpo arredondado, pelas penas brancas e pela aparência muito simpática. MONOcraft transformou essa pequena ave em um belo papercraft, usando formas simples e um visual levemente facetado que combina muito bem com papel.

O pássaro inteiro cabe em apenas uma folha de papel. Não são muitas peças, mas o modelo pronto tem bastante personalidade e deve ficar especialmente bonito em uma prateleira, sobre uma mesa ou até mesmo entre alguns pequenos vasos de plantas.

MONOcraft também preparou um tutorial em vídeo mostrando todo o processo de montagem. Isso sempre ajuda bastante, principalmente em modelos pequenos como este, onde a ordem em que as peças são coladas pode facilitar muito o trabalho.

O segundo modelo é Komugi, a pequena cachorrinha de Wonderful Precure!, uma série japonesa de animação para televisão produzida pela Toei Animation que começou a ser exibida no Japão em fevereiro de 2024. Komugi é uma cachorrinha da raça Papillon e uma das personagens principais da história.

Komugi é um pouco mais detalhada que o passarinho. Este papercraft ocupa duas folhas e tem peças separadas para as grandes orelhas, patas, cauda e o pequeno laço cor-de-rosa. Há duas versões da primeira folha, então você pode montar Komugi com a boca aberta ou fechada. A segunda folha é a mesma para as duas versões. Não consegui encontrar um nome pessoal claramente ligado ao criador destes papercrafts, então acho que MONOcraft é o crédito mais seguro e correto. O Shima-enaga ocupa apenas uma folha e Komugi ocupa três, e os dois contam com tutoriais em vídeo para ajudar na montagem.

An Atmospheric Cyberpunk Pixel Art Papercraft Dioramaby Formanula

This very cool cyberpunk papercraft diorama was created by Formanula and is part of CYBERPUNK - PACK 02, a small futuristic scene designed in a distinctive 3D Pixel-Art style that immediately brings to mind the atmosphere of classic and modern pixel art videogames.

The model represents a small corner of a futuristic city, complete with dark brick walls, signs, graffiti, ventilation ducts, a vending machine, bottles, scattered papers and three tiny pixel-style characters. The scene uses predominantly dark shades of purple, blue and black, contrasted by small details in brighter colors, creating a nighttime atmosphere that perfectly matches the cyberpunk aesthetic.

The complete papercraft comes as a PDF composed of four A4 sheets containing all the pieces needed to build the diorama, including the base, walls, architectural elements, vending machine, three characters and several small accessories. Despite the amount of detail in the finished model, most of the pieces use relatively simple geometric shapes, making this an interesting project even for those who are not used to building more complex paper models.

The second image in this post shows the same scene in its pixel art representation, looking almost like a screen from an old videogame. Comparing it with the assembled paper model is especially interesting, as we can see how the same pixelated environment works as a real three-dimensional miniature, preserving the characters, walls, signs, pavement and many of the small details scattered throughout the scene.

Despite its strong videogame appearance, CYBERPUNK - PACK 02 is not presented as being based on any specific game. It belongs to the Formanula universe, a project dedicated to papercraft kits that combine paper modeling with a distinctive 3D Pixel-Art aesthetic.

Formanula has created several other small paper worlds exploring different themes, including medieval fantasy, zombie apocalypse, urban environments, steampunk and cyberpunk, always using the same interesting combination of pixel art and three-dimensional paper modeling.

One particularly interesting aspect of this model is how differently it can be perceived depending on the viewing angle. Seen from the front, it resembles a dark pixel art videogame scene, while viewed in perspective it reveals its true three-dimensional construction, with walls, floor, characters and objects occupying different levels and giving depth to the little environment.

According to Formanula, no generative AI was used in the creation of this project.

For those who enjoy cyberpunk, pixel art, videogame-inspired miniatures or simply unusual paper dioramas, this is a small project full of personality and a very interesting example of how the visual language of pixel art can be transformed into a physical paper model.

Apesar de sua forte aparência de videogame, CYBERPUNK - PACK 02 não é apresentado como sendo baseado em nenhum jogo específico. Ele faz parte do universo Formanula, um projeto dedicado a kits de papercraft que combinam modelismo em papel com uma característica estética 3D Pixel-Art.

A Seaside Paper Tunnel Book - A Layered Papercraft Diorama by Cabinet of Curiosity Studio

This curious papercraft created by Cabinet of Curiosity Studio is called a Paper Tunnel Book and represents a seaside landscape from South Tyneside, in the northeast of England. Instead of forming a closed structure like most paper models, here several cut-out scenes are positioned one behind the other, separated by two accordion-folded side pieces. When viewed from the front, the different layers create a surprising sense of depth and transform a few simple sheets of paper into a small three-dimensional scene.

The model is composed of five different scenes, which must be cut out and then glued to the folded side sections. One interesting detail is that the builder can decide the distance between the layers and even slightly change their order, altering the perception of depth in the scene. Cabinet of Curiosity Studio recommends using paper or cardstock between 180 and 200 g/m², and the project can be printed in either A4 or A3 format. The instructions available on the website show the entire assembly process step by step.

The tunnel book can also receive an additional background and a front piece with a viewing opening. With this piece in place, the model works like a true paper peepshow: looking through the small opening, the five layers line up and the landscape seems to extend deep into the box. It is a very simple technique, but the visual effect is quite interesting, almost like looking into a tiny theater or miniature diorama. Of course, there is nothing to stop the builder from adding personal details, creating a different frame or even adding new layers to customize the scene.

This model is part of the Wonderbox project, an artistic initiative created to explore stories and landscapes from the South Tyneside region through tunnel books and small paper peep shows. The project received public support for cultural activities, including funding from the British national lottery, as well as support from the local city council. Riverside Auto Works Garage Papercraft in 1/64 Scale - by Papermau Download Now!

This is Riverside Auto Works, a small garage diorama created especially for collectors and enthusiasts of miniature cars.

The entire model fits on a single sheet and was designed in an approximate 1/64 scale, making it perfect for displaying miniature vehicles from popular brands that use this famous scale, such as Hot Wheels, Matchbox, GreenLight, Johnny Lightning and M2 Machines.

This is a very basic papercraft and, unlike most of the models published here at Papermau, it has no glue tabs. The idea is to make the construction as simple and versatile as possible.

The set consists of only three main parts. The first is the floor, representing an old concrete or asphalt surface with oil stains, tire marks and other signs of use. The second is a side wall with two large steel roll-up garage doors. The third wall serves as the main entrance of Riverside Auto Works and features the garage logo, another large garage door and a smaller office door.

To build the diorama, simply glue the three printed pieces onto a more rigid material. You can use cardstock, thin MDF sheets or even recycled cardboard from packaging boxes. Then just cut out the pieces, join everything together using ordinary glue, contact adhesive or hot glue, and that's it.

If you want to add even more detail and realism to the model, you can print extra copies of the sheet and use a simple layering technique, cutting out selected elements and gluing them one over another to create real volume. This can be used, for example, to recess the garage doors, make lamps, pipes, signs and electrical boxes stand out from the walls, and create small ledges and frames that catch the light and produce natural shadows, giving the whole diorama a much stronger sense of depth.

In a short time you will have a small garage diorama, a display stand for photographing or showing off your miniature cars and, for younger builders, a simple playset for playing with their toy cars.

The project was designed to be easy to build, inexpensive and highly adaptable. Of course, nothing prevents you from adding tools, signs, tires, boxes, figures or any other details to customize your Riverside Auto Works even further.

Esta é a Riverside Auto Works, um pequeno diorama de garagem criado especialmente para colecionadores e entusiastas de miniaturas de automóveis.

O modelo inteiro ocupa apenas uma única folha e foi pensado em uma escala aproximada de 1/64, o que o torna perfeito para expor miniaturas de marcas populares que utilizam essa famosa escala, como Hot Wheels, Matchbox, GreenLight, Johnny Lightning e M2 Machines.

É um papercraft bastante básico e, ao contrário da maioria dos modelos publicados aqui no Papermau, não possui abas de colagem. A ideia é justamente deixar a montagem o mais simples e versátil possível.

O conjunto é formado por apenas três partes principais. A primeira é o piso, que imita uma área de concreto ou asfalto envelhecido, com manchas de óleo, marcas de pneus e outros sinais de uso. A segunda é uma parede lateral com duas grandes portas de aço do tipo usado em oficinas e garagens. A terceira parede funciona como a entrada principal da Riverside Auto Works e traz o logotipo da oficina, uma terceira porta de garagem e uma pequena porta de acesso ao escritório.

Para montar o diorama, basta colar as três peças impressas sobre um material mais rígido. Você pode usar papel cartão, chapas finas de MDF ou até mesmo papelão reaproveitado de caixas de embalagens. Depois é só recortar as partes, juntar tudo usando cola comum, cola de contato ou cola quente e pronto.

Se você quiser acrescentar ainda mais detalhes e realismo ao modelo, pode imprimir cópias extras da folha e usar uma técnica simples de sobreposição, recortando determinados elementos e colando uma peça sobre a outra para criar volume real. Isso pode ser usado, por exemplo, para deixar as portas da garagem mais “afundadas”, destacar luminárias, canos, placas e caixas elétricas das paredes e criar pequenos relevos e molduras que recebem a luz e produzem sombras naturais, dando ao diorama uma sensação de profundidade muito maior.

Em pouco tempo você terá um pequeno diorama de garagem, um stand para fotografar ou expor suas miniaturas e, para os mais novos, um simples playset para brincar com seus carrinhos.

O projeto foi pensado para ser fácil de construir, barato e também bastante adaptável. Naturalmente, nada impede que você acrescente ferramentas, placas, pneus, caixas, figuras ou qualquer outro detalhe para personalizar ainda mais a sua Riverside Auto Works.
