Church of Mellnsdorf and Marktturm Luckenwalde Papercrafts by Andreas Stirl

These two beautiful architectural paper models reproduce the historic Church of Mellnsdorf and the Marktturm of Luckenwalde, both located in the district of Teltow-Fläming, Germany.

They are part of the Denkmal zum Anfassen project, created by the historic preservation authority of Teltow-Fläming in collaboration with German photographer and cameraman Andreas Stirl.

The idea of the project is simple and very interesting. Real historic buildings from the region were transformed into paper models so that people can learn a little more about the local architectural heritage while building them.

Both models were designed in 1/87 scale, the popular H0 model railway scale, so they can also be used in railway layouts, historical dioramas and miniature scenes.

The Church of Mellnsdorf is a charming small building with brick walls, a tiled roof and a compact tower. The Marktturm of Luckenwalde is taller and more imposing, with its stone textures and characteristic upper section.

The Church of Mellnsdorf is probably the oldest building in the village and was built during the first half of the 13th century. Made mainly of fieldstone, it is a fine example of the small rural churches built in the Fläming region during the late Romanesque period.

The Marktturm has an even more curious history. Its oldest parts date from the 12th and 13th centuries, but its original purpose remains unknown. Since 1484 it has served as the bell tower of the nearby St. Johannis Church, even though it stands completely separate from the church building. Its distinctive Baroque roof was added much later, in 1730.

The excellent assembled models shown in the photos were built by German paper modeler Harald 49 and originally shared at the Kartonbau.de forum.

Harald 49 reduced both models from their original 1/87 scale to approximately 1/150 and also added several small improvements and extra details to the builds.

Estes dois belos modelos arquitetônicos de papel reproduzem a histórica Igreja de Mellnsdorf e o Marktturm de Luckenwalde, ambos localizados no distrito de Teltow-Fläming, na Alemanha.

Eles fazem parte do projeto Denkmal zum Anfassen, criado pela autoridade de preservação do patrimônio histórico de Teltow-Fläming em colaboração com o fotógrafo e cinegrafista alemão Andreas Stirl.

A ideia do projeto é simples e muito interessante. Construções históricas reais da região foram transformadas em modelos de papel para que as pessoas possam conhecer um pouco mais do patrimônio arquitetônico local enquanto montam os modelos.

Os dois modelos foram projetados na escala 1/87, a popular escala ferroviária H0, por isso também podem ser usados em maquetes ferroviárias, dioramas históricos e pequenas cenas em miniatura.

A Igreja de Mellnsdorf é uma pequena e charmosa construção com paredes de tijolos, telhado de telhas e uma torre compacta. O Marktturm de Luckenwalde é mais alto e imponente, com suas texturas de pedra e sua característica parte superior.

A Igreja de Mellnsdorf é provavelmente a construção mais antiga da pequena localidade e foi erguida durante a primeira metade do século XIII. Construída principalmente com pedras de campo, é um belo exemplo das pequenas igrejas rurais construídas na região de Fläming durante o final do período românico.

O Marktturm tem uma história ainda mais curiosa. Suas partes mais antigas datam dos séculos XII e XIII, mas sua função original permanece desconhecida. Desde 1484 ele serve como campanário da vizinha Igreja de St. Johannis, apesar de ficar completamente separado do edifício da igreja. Sua característica cobertura barroca foi acrescentada muito mais tarde, em 1730.

Harald 49 reduziu os dois modelos da escala original 1/87 para aproximadamente 1/150 e também acrescentou diversas pequenas melhorias e detalhes extras às montagens.

Blaubeurer Tor In Ulm - Historical Gate Paper Model In 1/250 Scale by Dieter Welz

Here is another impressive architectural paper model created by German designer and model maker Dieter Welz, from the Wediul-Kartonmodelle website, formerly known to many papercraft enthusiasts as Ausschneide Bogen.

This time the subject is the Blaubeurer Tor, one of the historic structures belonging to the great Federal Fortress of Ulm (Bundesfestung Ulm), in Germany.

The model is in 1/250 scale and is certainly not a small or overly simple project. It is composed of 369 individual parts distributed over ten A4 sheets, and when completed measures approximately 28 cm wide, 23.5 cm deep and 7 cm high.

For a better result, Dieter Welz recommends printing the templates on 160 g/m² paper. The model was also designed to allow internal LED lighting, a very interesting feature for anyone planning to use it in a historical diorama or display.

The real Blaubeurer Tor was part of the enormous Bundesfestung Ulm, a system of fortifications constructed around Ulm and Neu-Ulm during the 19th century, after the Napoleonic Wars.

The gate was built between 1843 and 1855 as part of the western defenses of the city. Besides its military purpose, it had another very interesting function: branches of the Blau River flowed directly beneath the structure, and a system of integrated sluices could be used to control the water and, if necessary, flood the wet defensive moat.

An interesting coincidence makes this paper model even more timely: in 2026, the real Blaubeurer Tor became fully visible again for the first time in around sixty years, following the removal of the large road bridge that had crossed above the historic structure for decades.

A wooden drawbridge originally stood directly beside the gate building, completing the defensive system and giving the place an appearance very different from what can be seen there today.

Dieter Welz reconstructed the paper model using historical information and images available on the internet, so the model represents an approximate interpretation of how the Blaubeurer Tor and its surroundings looked in the past rather than its present-day configuration.

The project even includes small figures and horse-drawn carriages, and the author suggests using model railway scenery materials to make the grass and surrounding terrain more realistic.

As with many of Dieter Welz's architectural models already featured here on Papermau, this is much more than a simple paper building. It is a miniature reconstruction of a real piece of German history and a particularly interesting project for those who enjoy historical architecture, fortifications, model railways, dioramas and wargames.

Eis aqui mais um impressionante modelo arquitetônico em papel criado pelo designer e modelista alemão Dieter Welz, do site Wediul-Kartonmodelle, anteriormente conhecido por muitos amantes do papercraft como Ausschneide Bogen.

Desta vez o tema é o Blaubeurer Tor, uma das construções históricas que faziam parte da gigantesca Fortaleza Federal de Ulm (Bundesfestung Ulm), na Alemanha.

O modelo está na escala 1/250 e certamente não é um projeto pequeno ou simples demais. Ele é composto por 369 peças individuais distribuídas em dez folhas A4 e, depois de montado, mede aproximadamente 28 cm de largura, 23,5 cm de profundidade e 7 cm de altura.

Para um melhor resultado, Dieter Welz recomenda imprimir os templates em papel de 160 g/m². O modelo também foi projetado para permitir iluminação interna com LEDs, um recurso muito interessante para quem pretende utilizá-lo em um diorama histórico ou simplesmente expô-lo.

O verdadeiro Blaubeurer Tor fazia parte da enorme Bundesfestung Ulm, um sistema de fortificações construído ao redor das cidades de Ulm e Neu-Ulm durante o século XIX, após as Guerras Napoleônicas.

O portão foi construído entre 1843 e 1855 como parte das defesas do acesso oeste da cidade. Além de sua função militar, ele possuía outra característica muito interessante: braços do rio Blau passavam diretamente por baixo da construção e um sistema de comportas permitia controlar a água e, em caso de necessidade, inundar o fosso defensivo.

Uma interessante coincidência torna este modelo em papel ainda mais atual: em 2026, o verdadeiro Blaubeurer Tor voltou a ficar totalmente visível pela primeira vez em cerca de sessenta anos, após a remoção da grande ponte rodoviária que durante décadas passava sobre a construção histórica.

Originalmente havia também uma ponte levadiça de madeira junto ao edifício do portão, completando o sistema defensivo e dando ao local uma aparência bastante diferente daquela que podemos ver atualmente.

Dieter Welz reconstruiu o modelo em papel utilizando informações históricas e imagens disponíveis na internet, portanto o papercraft representa uma interpretação aproximada de como o Blaubeurer Tor e seus arredores eram no passado, e não exatamente sua configuração atual.

O projeto inclui até pequenas figuras e carruagens puxadas por cavalos, e o autor sugere o uso de materiais de cenário encontrados em lojas de ferromodelismo para tornar a grama e o terreno ao redor ainda mais realistas.

Assim como acontece com muitos dos modelos arquitetônicos de Dieter Welz que já apareceram aqui no Papermau, este é muito mais do que simplesmente um prédio de papel. É uma reconstrução em miniatura de uma parte real da história alemã e um projeto especialmente interessante para quem gosta de arquitetura histórica, fortificações, ferromodelismo, dioramas e wargames.

Old European House Papercraft - Rustic Style - by PapermauDownload Now!

This paper model started from a very simple idea. I had an old hand drawn house template created by me some time ago, with clean lines and no textures, just the basic structure ready to be turned into a papercraft.

At first, I decided to experiment with artificial intelligence and asked ChatGPT to create realistic textures for this model. The goal was to achieve a weathered European look, something rustic, with aged plaster, wooden beams, stone base and a bit of vegetation to give life to the building.

As expected, the first attempts did not work very well. The AI kept changing proportions, distorting parts and altering the original layout, which is something that simply cannot happen in papercraft, since every millimeter matters for assembly.

After a few failed tries, I changed the approach. Instead of asking for a complete model, I focused only on generating textures. Using those textures as a base, I applied them manually over my original template, preserving all the original lines, proportions and structure.

The result you see here is exactly that. A hand drawn papercraft model combined with textures generated by artificial intelligence, carefully applied to maintain full compatibility with the original design.

In the end, this became something more interesting than I initially expected. Not just a simple model, but a small experiment showing how traditional papercraft and modern tools can work together.

I believe artificial intelligence will become a great ally of the papercraft hobby in the coming years, helping more people create, experiment and share their own paper models, and hopefully making our beloved hobby even more popular around the world.

So this model can be seen as a true collaboration between human and AI, where the structure, design and final assembly logic come from the human side, and the textures and visual atmosphere were enhanced with the help of artificial intelligence.

Este modelo de papel começou a partir de uma ideia bem simples. Eu tinha um antigo template de uma casa desenhado à mão por mim há algum tempo, com linhas limpas e sem texturas, apenas a estrutura básica pronta para ser transformada em papercraft.

No começo, resolvi fazer uma experiência com inteligência artificial e pedi ao ChatGPT para criar texturas realistas para este modelo. A ideia era chegar a um visual europeu envelhecido, algo rústico, com reboco antigo, vigas de madeira, base de pedra e um pouco de vegetação para dar vida à construção.

Como era de se esperar, as primeiras tentativas não funcionaram muito bem. A IA insistia em mudar proporções, distorcer partes e alterar o layout original, algo que simplesmente não pode acontecer em papercraft, já que cada milímetro faz diferença na montagem.

Depois de algumas tentativas frustradas, mudei a abordagem. Em vez de pedir um modelo completo, foquei apenas na criação das texturas. Usando essas texturas como base, apliquei tudo manualmente sobre o meu template original, preservando todas as linhas, proporções e estrutura do desenho.

O resultado que você vê aqui é exatamente isso. Um papercraft desenhado à mão combinado com texturas geradas por inteligência artificial, aplicadas com cuidado para manter total compatibilidade com o projeto original.

No final, isso acabou se tornando algo mais interessante do que eu esperava. Não apenas um modelo simples, mas uma pequena experiência mostrando como o papercraft tradicional e as ferramentas modernas podem trabalhar juntos.

Acredito que a inteligência artificial será uma grande aliada do hobby do papercraft nos próximos anos, ajudando mais pessoas a criar, experimentar e compartilhar seus próprios modelos de papel, e quem sabe popularizando ainda mais este nosso querido hobby pelo mundo.

Altes Postdörfle In Ulm Paper Model In 1/160 Scale - by Dieter Welz

An Imaginary Gothic Cathedral Paper Model In 1/200 Scale by J. Zehnne

This Gothic Cathedral paper model was created by J. Zehnne and is available for free on the French website NÉNÉSite. 

The model is built at approximately 1/200 scale, meaning that each centimeter on the model represents about two meters of the original building. In real-life proportion, the cathedral would measure around 36 meters long, 27 meters high, and 14 meters under the main vault. 

Although the author does not mention a specific cathedral as reference, the design clearly draws inspiration from the Southern French Gothic style. 

The warm orange tones of the walls recall the limestone and brick used in cathedrals from the south of France, such as those in Albi or Narbonne. 

The structure includes all the classic Gothic elements - nave, transept, towers, and flying buttresses - but in a more generic form, suggesting that this is an original creation inspired by the style rather than a faithful replica of a real building. 

Several PDF files are provided for printing on standard A4 paper. Among them are the transept, nave, side aisles, towers, choir, and buttresses. Some parts need to be printed twice to complete the structure. The set also includes a general plan showing the layout of all components. 

Zehnne recommends using thick paper, around 240 g/m², and printing without resizing to preserve the correct scale. He also suggests using a laser printer for better color definition and long-term durability. 

The model is assembled in stages that follow the structure of a real cathedral - starting with the transept and main nave and finishing with the towers and buttresses. 

A fine example of Gothic architecture translated into paper, perfect for those who enjoy historical buildings and well-designed papercraft challenges.

Este papercraft de uma catedral gótica foi criado por J. Zehnne e está disponível gratuitamente no site francês NÉNÉSite. 

O modelo foi feito na escala aproximada de 1/200, o que significa que cada centímetro no modelo representa cerca de dois metros da construção original. A maquete completa mede, em proporção real, cerca de 36 metros de comprimento, 27 metros de altura e 14 metros sob a abóbada principal. 

Embora o autor não mencione explicitamente em qual catedral se baseou, é possível perceber que o projeto foi inspirado no estilo gótico meridional da França.

Zehnne recomenda usar papel mais espesso, por volta de 240 g/m², e imprimir sem redimensionar os arquivos para manter a escala correta. Segundo ele, uma impressora a laser garante melhor definição e durabilidade das cores. 

O modelo é montado em etapas que seguem a estrutura real de uma catedral, começando pelo transepto e a nave central e finalizando com as torres e os contrafortes. 

Um belo exemplo de arquitetura gótica transformado em papel, ideal para quem gosta de construções históricas e desafios de montagem bem elaborados.

Old Lindau Post Office Paper Model in 1/160 Scale by Ausschneide Bogen

Created by the talented German designer and model maker Dieter Welz, from the Ausschneide Bogen website, this beautiful paper model of the old Lindau post office consists of 204 parts spread over 22 sheets and is available in N scale (1/160). 

Mr. Welz recommends printing the templates on 160g/m² cardstock for the N scale version and 200g/m² for the HO scale version, ensuring greater stability and a cleaner finish during assembly. 

The real building was constructed between 1902 and 1903 on the island of Lindau, Germany, on the charming Maximilianstraße, just a short walk from the harbor and train station. 

Today, it houses an art center, the municipal library, and the city archives. The structure has three floors, a gabled roof, and an "L"-shaped layout. 

The main facade features a decorative pediment with Gothic and Renaissance influences, along with several refined architectural details, especially the pierced ornamental gables, which present an extra challenge for those who enjoy precise knife work. 

The model can be assembled at different levels of difficulty, ranging from a simpler version to a more advanced build with internal LED lighting. 

It’s an excellent addition to N scale dioramas, particularly for model railroading enthusiasts. With the addition of tracks, greenery, and a few miniature figures, it’s possible to recreate a charming scene of a quiet station from the past.

O Sr. Welz recomenda imprimir os templates em papel com gramatura 160g/m² para a escala N e 200g/m² para a versão em HO, garantindo assim mais firmeza e um acabamento superior na montagem. 

O edifício real foi construído entre 1902 e 1903 na ilha de Lindau, na Alemanha, na charmosa Maximilianstraße, bem próximo ao porto e à estação ferroviária. 

Hoje, abriga um centro de arte, a biblioteca municipal e o arquivo histórico da cidade. O prédio tem três andares, telhado em duas águas e planta em "L". 

A fachada principal se destaca com um frontão decorativo em estilo gótico e renascentista, além de outros detalhes arquitetônicos refinados, como os frontões vazados, que representam um desafio extra para quem gosta de cortes precisos com estilete.

O modelo pode ser montado em diferentes níveis de dificuldade, desde uma versão mais simples até uma versão avançada com iluminação interna em LED. 

É uma excelente adição para dioramas na escala N, especialmente para entusiastas do ferromodelismo. Com a inclusão de trilhos, vegetação e algumas miniaturas humanas, é possível recriar uma cena encantadora de uma pacata estação do passado.
