The Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker (triplane) was a World War I fighter aircraft built by Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. The Dr.I saw widespread service in the spring of 1918. It became renowned as the aircraft in which Manfred von Richthofen gained his last 20 victories, and in which he was killed on 21 April 1918.
Very few triplanes survived the Armistice. Serial 528/17 was retained as a testbed by the Deutschen Versuchsanstalt für Luftfahrt (German Aviation Research Institute) at Adlershof. After being used in the filming of two movies, 528/17 is believed to have crashed sometime in the late 1930s. Serial 152/17, in which Manfred von Richthofen obtained three victories, was displayed at the Zeughaus museum in Berlin. The triplane was destroyed by an Allied bombing raid during World War II. Today, only a few original Dr.I artifacts survive in museums.


O Fokker Dr.I Dreidecker (triplano) foi um avião militar da Primeira Guerra Mundial projetado por Reinhold Platz e construído pela Fokker-Flugzeugwerke. O modelo ganhou notoriedade quando foi pilotado pelo "Barão Vermelho" Manfred von Richthofen.
Em Abril de 1917, a Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) introduziu o Sopwith Triplane. O Sopwith depressa provou ser superior ao Albatros e ao Halberstadt scouts usado pelos Serviços aéreos alemães.
Nenhum dos fabricantes de aviões alemães (Albatros, Pfalz, AEG, DFW, Schütte-Lanz e Euler), respondeu com protótipos de triplanos.
Os trabalhos de Fokker responderam às necessidades com o V.3, um triplano equipado com um pequeno motor-rotativo, fuselagem em aço e asas muito grossas. Testes iniciais revelaram deficiências no V.3, particularmente no controle das forças.
Fokker produziu o V.4, um protótipo melhorado, o substituto do V.3. O V.4 provou ser superior aos protótipos do triplano construídos por outros fabricantes. Depois de um teste, Idflieg emitiu uma ordem para a produção imediata dos aviões.
Alguns especialistas consideram o Dr.1 um quadriplano, pois a sessão do aerofólio presente entre as rodas do avião, por possuir um perfil assimétrico, também gera sustentação ao avião.
