Trilobite - An Easy-To-Build Papercraft Of An Ancient Sea Dweller by Paper Model Studio

Taking up only a single printed sheet,and an additional one if you wish to print the display stand,here is a realistic Trilobite papercraft.

If you plan to use it for school projects, below are some basic facts that might help you. 

Trilobites were marine arthropods that lived between 521 and 252 million years ago, during the Paleozoic Era. 

They are known for their segmented exoskeletons and remarkable diversity, with over 20,000 described species. They were exclusively marine, inhabiting the ocean floor or swimming near the seabed. 

Their diet varied by species: some were detritivores, feeding on organic matter from the seafloor, others were predators of small animals, and some even filtered particles from the water. 

Many walked over sediments using their jointed legs, while some swam propelled by their appendages. 

They dominated the seas for nearly 300 million years but disappeared during the great Permian extinction. 

The most common trilobite size was around 10 cm, a measurement used by Mr. Kushima as the basis for this papercraft. 

However, there were variations: some species were less than 1 cm, while others, like Isotelus rex, reached an impressive 70 cm. 

Trilobites had compound eyes made of calcite, a mineral, making them one of the first animals to develop sophisticated vision. 

Like modern crabs and lobsters, they shed their exoskeletons to grow, leaving behind well-preserved fossils of these molts. 

Additionally, some species developed a fascinating defense mechanism: they curled up like a pill bug to protect themselves from predators, one of the earliest examples of this behavior in nature.

Se pretende usá-lo em trabalhos escolares, seguem abaixo algumas informações básicas que podem ajudá-lo. 

Os trilobitas eram artrópodes marinhos que viveram entre 521 e 252 milhões de anos atrás, durante a Era Paleozoica.

No entanto, havia variações: algumas espécies tinham menos de 1 cm, enquanto outras, como o Isotelus rex, chegavam a impressionantes 70 cms. 

Os trilobitas possuíam olhos compostos feitos de calcita, um mineral, tornando-os um dos primeiros animais com visão sofisticada. 

Assim como os caranguejos e lagostas atuais, eles trocavam de exoesqueleto para crescer, deixando fósseis bem preservados dessas mudas.

Block Drugstore & Zig Zag Records 3D Models For Sketchup by Papermau - Download Now!

While working on the papercraft of the Block Drugstore facade, I decided to see how it would look next to the Zig Zag Records, another papercraft I’ve already published here on the blog (link at the end of this post). 

The result pleased me quite a lot, so I’m making the 3D model of both facades available, even though they were never neighbors in real life. 

The model can be opened in SketchUp (version 6 and later) or Trimble. 

Since Trimble no longer offers free versions and SketchUp has been discontinued, I’ve included a Google Drive link at the end of this post with a SketchUp 6 version for those interested.

I’m still working on the Block Drugstore facade and plan to release it in two versions: a narrower one, to pair with the Zig Zag Records, and a wider one, which will include details of the pharmacy’s side wall. More updates coming soon.

Enquanto trabalho no papercraft da fachada da Block Drugstore, decidi verificar como ela ficaria ao lado da Zig Zag Records, outro papercraft que já publiquei aqui no blog (link no final deste post). 

O resultado me agradou bastante, e por isso estou disponibilizando o modelo em 3D das duas fachadas, embora, na vida real, elas nunca tenham sido vizinhas. 

O modelo pode ser aberto no SketchUp (a partir da versão 6) ou no Trimble. 

Como o Trimble não oferece mais versões gratuitas e o SketchUp foi descontinuado, incluí no final deste post um link do Google Drive com uma versão do SketchUp 6, para aqueles que tiverem interesse. 

Continuo trabalhando na fachada da Block Drugstore e pretendo lançá-la em duas versões: uma mais estreita, para ser combinada com a Zig Zag Records, e outra mais larga, que incluirá detalhes da lateral da farmácia. Em breve, mais novidades.

Travy And Vello Bros - The Adventurous Travelers Paper Toys by Salazad

Taking up just one sheet of paper each, these paper toys of Travy and Vello were created by Indonesian designer and modeler Faisal Azad, also known as Salazad. 

There are many more paper toys on Salazad’s website, as you can see in the last image of this post. 

Salazad says that Travy and Vello bros were adventurers at heart, driven by an incessant passion for travel. 

Travy loved the sea, the salty breeze and the sound of the waves, while Vello felt alive in the chaos of the cities and the vibrant energy of bustling markets. 

Their weekends were a constant negotiation between paradisiacal beaches and urban alleys. 

Eventually, they reached a compromise: splitting their vacations between tropical destinations and bustling cities. 

In Hawaii, Travy relaxed under palm trees while Vello explored trails and volcanic craters; in Tokyo, Vello immersed himself in urban culture, while Travy sought refuge on a quiet stretch of sand. 

While their getaways were unforgettable, Mondays brought them back to the reality of corporate jobs and piles of emails. 

Tired of the monotony, one night they had a bold idea: to turn their passion for travel into a career. 

With the plan to create a blog called "The Travello Bros", they decided to share their adventures, tips and discoveries with other travelers. 

Fueled by this dream, they began planning a definitive escape from office life, eager to trade spreadsheets for passports.

Salazad diz que os irmãos Travy e Vello eram aventureiros de alma, movidos por uma paixão incessante por viagens.

Travy amava o mar, a brisa salgada e o som das ondas, enquanto Vello se sentia vivo no caos das cidades e na energia vibrante de mercados movimentados. 

Seus fins de semana eram uma negociação constante entre praias paradisíacas e becos urbanos. 

Eventualmente, chegaram a um compromisso: dividir as férias entre destinos tropicais e cidades agitadas. 

No Havaí, Travy relaxava sob palmeiras enquanto Vello explorava trilhas e crateras vulcânicas; em Tóquio, Vello mergulhava na cultura urbana, enquanto Travy buscava refúgio em uma tranquila faixa de areia. 

Embora suas escapadas fossem inesquecíveis, as segundas-feiras os traziam de volta à realidade de empregos corporativos e pilhas de e-mails. 

Cansados da monotonia, uma noite surgiu uma ideia audaciosa: transformar sua paixão por viajar em carreira. 

Com o plano de criar um blog chamado "The Travello Bros", decidiram compartilhar suas aventuras, dicas e descobertas com outros viajantes. 

Alimentados por esse sonho, começaram a planejar uma fuga definitiva da vida no escritório, ansiosos por trocar planilhas por passaportes.

Some Facades From London In The 70's - A Stand Papercraft For Miniature Vehicles - by Papermau - Download Now!

Here is the stand/diorama featuring some facades of 1970s London, ready for download. I believe it will be useful as a display or for photographing miniatures, especially 1/64 scale vehicles like Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and others. 

The photo of the facade I used is actually from Vlaardingen, a city and municipality located in the South Holland province (Zuid-Holland), in the Netherlands. 

It is close to Rotterdam, along the Nieuwe Maas river, one of the branches of the Rhine. Before discovering this, when I first saw the photo, I thought it depicted a street in London. It was with that idea in mind that I began creating the papercraft. 

The posters of The Who, David Bowie, Queen, and Black Sabbath, as well as the other signs and painted billboards on the brick walls, were carefully added to create an atmosphere reminiscent of 1970s London. 

A special detail is the graffiti I placed on the bottom left of the facades. This graffiti actually existed and was immortalized by the photographer John de Prey, who, in 1971, spent a few months with his friend Marcus in Powis Square, in Notting Hill, London. 

During this time, he captured a series of photographs documenting the everyday life and vibrant culture of the area. 

His images provide a unique glimpse of Notting Hill in the 1970s, highlighting places like the Portobello Road market, local residents, and the area's cultural diversity. 

The graffiti in question featured a quote by William Blake: "The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction". 

It was captured by de Prey on Basing Street, W11, and was also seen at the entrance of Euston Square station. 

This phrase, from Blake’s work The Marriage of Heaven and Hell (1790-1793), reflects his belief in the creative force of passion and energy (represented by the "tigers of wrath"), which he considered superior to controlled reason and conformity (symbolized by the "horses of instruction"). 

It is an invitation to embrace emotional intensity and spontaneity over passive obedience. In the 1970s, it was common to find Blake’s quotes in graffiti scattered across London. 

Another example is the phrase "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom", seen in Powis Square. These inscriptions captured the rebellious and philosophical spirit of the time, using urban art to provoke thought and challenge societal norms. 

The author of the graffiti featuring Blake’s quote remains unknown. During the 1970s, such graffiti was often created by anonymous artists or thinkers who used philosophical and literary phrases to express countercultural ideas or inspire reflection.

This anonymity was part of the charm and impact of graffiti, allowing the message to take center stage rather than the creator. 

Blake's words, with their defiant and inspiring tone, fit perfectly with the rebellious and creative spirit of the era.

Um detalhe especial é o grafite que coloquei na parte inferior esquerda das fachadas. Esse grafite realmente existiu e foi eternizado pelo fotógrafo John de Prey, que, em 1971, passou alguns meses com seu amigo Marcus na Powis Square, em Notting Hill, Londres. 

Durante esse período, ele registrou uma série de fotografias que documentam a vida cotidiana e a cultura vibrante da área na época. 

Suas imagens oferecem uma visão única de Notting Hill nos anos 1970, destacando lugares como o mercado de Portobello Road, os moradores locais e a diversidade cultural da região. 

O grafite em questão exibia a frase de William Blake: "The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction".

Essa anonimidade era parte do impacto e do charme do grafite, permitindo que a mensagem fosse o foco principal, mais do que seu criador. 

As palavras de Blake, com seu tom desafiador e inspirador, se encaixavam perfeitamente no espírito rebelde e criativo da época.
