The Ephemeral Museum - Stitch Paper Toy - via Kiri-Chan Kiricraft

The modeler Kiri-Chan did not create this paper model of Stitch, but he "hunted" an ukulele and a beach float and put it all together in a beautiful diorama. He also hosted all the models in a single Google Drive folder, making life easier for anyone who wants to assemble the diorama.

About the Ephemeral Museum:

I "am in the paper modeling" since 2005, although I've had contact with paper models from my childhood in the 1970s, via magazines that were sold sporadically in newsagents. I remember magazines with houses to build and dioramas/playsets of airports, western forts, nativity scenes and the like. With the advent of the internet what happened was simply a revival of the papercraft hobby for me and many other people of my generation. So, this is the Ephemeral Museum , a place where I will show some of the models that I built all these years. I would also like this to be a space where all modelers friends could show their work, so if anyone wants to participate in this "museum", just send photos of your work and a few words, if you want, to the e-mail:

mautherous@gmail.com

All who submit their work will be published, without exceptions.

The Czech Airport - A Vintage Paper Model For Kids - by ABC

Yesterday I posted here a vintage paper model, the Eastern Bohemian Fortress, offered by the ABC Magazine website and today I realized that it is part of a series. ABC will share a total of 15 vintage models available in a series called "Cut-Out Museum". In the presentation of this series it is said that "The free download of a cut-out is a reliable recipe to banish boredom".

This paper model of an Airport was originally published in the 1940s by publisher Petr Melichar, which probably operated in Prague in the 1940s and disappeared after 1948. The individual cut-out sheets were numbered and have a trademark in the form of a letter M with a crown. On the back of the original model is the name of editor Petr Melichar. This publisher was also known for its collection of children's books.

A Little Quarantine Diary - Days 47, 48 & 49
Um Pequeno Diário da Quarentena - Dias 47, 48 & 49

History Repeats Itself - Japanese Girls With Masks During The 1919`s Pandemic.

Good night friends. Today, Tuesday, forty-ninth day of the quarantine and here in Brazil we have 7,921 deaths caused by the CHINESE VIRUS, better known as the New Coronavirus or Covid 19, with 600 of these deaths occurring in the last 24 hours, the highest number recorded in the period since the beginning of the pandemic. Officially we have 114,715 infected, but these data are always out of date due to the lack of material for mass testing.

In my opinion, quarantine is not being respected by a large part of Brazilian society for several reasons, among which I highlight a deep-seated tendency in the Brazilian people to not follow rules, to simply ignore what does not interest them. I also think that the quarantine was implemented very early in the country, giving the impression in the first 30 days that nothing serious would happen, that the virus was something that only affected Europeans or rich countries. The result is that, with few fatal victims at first, the people understood that it was nothing serious and got tired of staying at home. Impelled also by fear of losing their jobs or simply by boredom, today they take to the streets as if there is nothing, even though many wear masks.

With this huge increase in deaths and infections, it was not surprising that today it was informed that the quarantine here in the city of São Paulo will be extended until the 25th of May. Complicated.

This quarantine has affected everyone's head. Here at home everyone is a little upset. Irritation is latent and, despite all the free time, it is difficult to stay focused on something trivial. The virus is like a presence, it is not here, but it is here, or is it not? Shopping at the market, putting out the trash, going out for essentials only, everything is risky. The news does nothing to show aerial views of cemeteries with hundreds of open graves, as if to say: one of them is reserved for you, buddy.

I haven't been sleeping at night. I always wait for the day to light up for a nap, for safety, since here in my region there are many invasions (they've tried to enter my house twice since the beginning of this damn quarantine) and also because I just can't relax. Reading, writing, washing dishes, creating things, handicrafts, old films, anything goes in order not to think too much about a very, very uncertain future.

Now it's night and I'm getting ready for another night of vigil. It is obvious that all this will pass, the question is when, what will the world be like after all and how many of us will be here to know.

Everyone be well. Take care. Get busy. Don't let your guard down.

...............................................................................................................................................................................

Boa noite, amigos.

The Ancient Temple Of Sacrifice Paper Model - Beta Version
by Papermau - Download Now!

As part of the restructuring and cleaning of the blog, today I post here a model originally published in October, 2016. This is the "Beta version" of the Ancient Temple Of Sacrifice, this means that the model has not been tested and may have some errors

I assembled it in 3D and I have not encountered errors, but the number of pieces was made in a hurry, so if someone wants to build this model, should take this into consideration.

If you liked the figures, they are from Wargames Foundry website and are metal miniatures for RPG and Wargames. You can download the photos there.

East Bohemian Fortress - A Vintage Paper Model - by ABC Magazine

Offered ABC Magazine, from Czechoslovakia, here is a beautiful and rare paper model of an East Bohemian Fortress, originally published between the 1930s and 1940s. The fortress is equipped with miniature cannons and there is also a military garrison on the alert. This paper model is from a publisher whose name has been lost in time and its symbol was a blue rooster in a circle. This publisher was based in Eastern Bohemia, probably between the 1930s and 1940s. Each model launched had its own number and the last known set had the number 99. Most models featured figures of soldiers and models of buildings. Other themes included figures of firefighters, falcons, knights, animals, dolls, as well as figures from famous fairy tales and nativity scenes. The models that featured technologies are unique. For example, the model of an airship (zeppelin) launched by this publisher is an absolute rarity in the Czech Republic at the moment.

The Czech magazine ABC has published paper models since the mid-1960s and is one of the main responsible for the development of the hobby of paper modeling before the advent of the internet. With the brilliant and tireless work of the Czech architect and creator of paper models Richard Vyškovský (13 July 1929 - 1 August 2019), the magazine launched all kinds of paper models by European artists. We will talk more about Mr Vyškovský in an upcoming post.

A Little Quarantine Diary - Days 45 & 46
Um Pequeno Diário da Quarentena - Dias 45 & 46

Differnt Masks Cartoon - Published in October, 1918 - The San Francisco Examiner Sun

Good night friends. Today, forty-sixth day of the quarantine and here in Brazil we have 6,750 registered deaths and 96,559 cases of infection caused by the CHINESE VIRUS, better known as Covid 19 or New Coronavirus, but these numbers are outdated in at least a month, so it is expected a much larger number of cases when they start to do more tests of the population.

People are still on the streets, many of them without masks and not even respecting the protocol distance. Here in São Paulo, less than 50% of the population is respecting the quarantine. In the poorest and most populous neighborhoods, people act as if there is nothing, continue to live normally and deny reality. The result of this is a huge increase in the number of dead and infected and probably a prolonged quarantine. I understand that this quarantine is necessary and has to be done in different ways in each region of the country, but there are basic rules that must be followed by everyone, such as the use of masks, alcohol gel, keep your distance, avoid leaving without need, etc. Things will get much worse before they get better, unfortunately.

I don't know how to explain to people outside Brazil the political situation inside. We have a cornered president, each day weaker and becoming and doing everything he fought during the first months of his term. Bolsonaro has sacked almost all honest people, all pillars of his government and is making alliances with old political foxes, including several investigated by the once-glorious Lava-Jato.

It is sad how we were manipulated, but it is never too late to do the right thing. We have to fight and denounce every disastrous move by the president and his cronies.

Sergio Moro, former Minister of Justice and if we can compare, it would be the Brazilian version of Judge Falcone, the Italian hero (killed in an explosion) of Operation Clean Hands, the biggest anti-corruption operation carried out there that, unfortunately as here, it was also weakened and ended up being almost innocuous.

This diary was meant to talk only about quarantine, but there is no way to stop thinking about the worst virus in Brazil, corruption, which kills as much, if not more, than the CHINESE VIRUS.

See you tomorrow, I hope. Take care, don't let your guard down, watch your politicians and, above all, occupy your minds. As the ancients say here in Brazil, an empty head is the devil's workshop.

...............................................................................................................................................................................

Boa noite, amigos.
