Date Masamune (September 5, 1567 – June 27, 1636) was a regional strongman of Japan's Azuchi-Momoyama period through early Edo period. Heir to a long line of powerful daimyo in the Tōhoku region, he went on to found the modern-day city of Sendai. An outstanding tactician, he was made all the more iconic for his missing eye, and Date was often called dokuganryū, or the "one-eyed dragon". As a legendary warrior and leader, Masamune is a character in a number of Japanese period dramas. Date Masamune (5 de setembro de 1567 – 27 de junho de 1636) foi um samurai japonês do Período Azuchi-Momoyama até o começo do Período Edo. Herdeiro de uma longa linhagem de poderosos daimyo na região de Tōhoku, fundou a atual cidade de Sendai. Um magnífico estrategista, era ainda mais icônico por ter perdido um olho em batalha. Masamune era frequentemente chamado dokuganryū , o "dragão de um olho". Como guerreiro lendário e líder, Masamune é um personagem de uma série de dramas de época japoneses.
