The Volkswagen Golf is a small family car (C-segment in Europe) manufactured by Volkswagen since 1974 and marketed worldwide across six generations, in various body configurations and under various nameplates – as the Volkswagen Rabbit in the United States and Canada (Mk1 and Mk5), and as the Volkswagen Caribe in Mexico (Mk1). The front-wheel drive, front-engined Golf was Volkswagen's first successful replacement for the air-cooled, rear-engined, rear-wheel drive Volkswagen Beetle. Volkswagen Golf é um automóvel fabricado pela Volkswagen. Foi lançado no mercado europeu em 1974 e no mercado brasileiro em 1995, quando já estava na sua terceira geração. É atualmente o carro de maior sucesso de vendas na história da Volkswagen, superando até o mítico Volkswagen Fusca, carro que substituiu na Europa a partir da década de 70. O Golf passou por várias reestilizações e, na Europa, está em sua sexta geração. No Brasil, a quinta geração nunca esteve disponível. Porém, foi lançada uma reestilização da quarta, cujo modelo GTi foi o carro mais potente em produção no país, com 193cv. Ele saiu de linha em 12 de fevereiro de 2009, devido as baixas vendas.
